first off give ya some history ,,    I do have a CPAP achine for my sleep apnea .. and i do have a small hyeatal hernia  which i recently found out about ..and have had a stress test  . and ekgs  .. taht all say im fine ..  that  being said ..  I quit 2 months ago after smoking for over 25 years a half a pack a day ..  and i suffer most of the symptoms  you all do ..   andi know how it feels when my hernia is acting up .. i do wake up  severla times a night  like most of you But have any of you expereinced waking up with your heart racing ??? yes i do have  dreams  but i wouldnt call them nightmares..    i feel good and bad at the same time ..  part of feeling bad is my hernia .  but i feel like ican breathe better  . i can smell and tatse things better ,  i have actually lost alot of weight so far.. mostly because i have changed my eating habits ..  .however i feel bad because of the anxiety  and because of this lack of energy  and lack of sleep ..  and this racing heart issue when i wake up .. just wondering if my machine is broke (which it doesnt apear to be ) or is it some side affect of my dreams  that are bad  but not horrific? (of course who can recall everydream they have) now my doctor said it could be a combination of my hernia and non smoking .. but doctors are rareley smokers  themselves .

To all that are trying to quit but don't want to give up the habit of smoking, have you tried Electronic Cigarettes? I just quit Feb 4 and I have been Tobacco free for a month, I have never looked back.  Many Cigarette withdrawls are from things other than the nicotine cigarettes have hundreds of different MUIs and hundreds upon thousands of other chemicals your body is addicted to.  Why not take it one step at a time, cut the other chemicals out, then step your nicotine level down to 0 nicotine with an ecig (Personal vaporizer) and finally you can break the oral fixation.  Best part is Electronic Cigarettes produce no tar or carcinogens that you breath into your lungs!

Your not alone either.  There are thousands of people who have quit this way and have a huge support group

I stopped smoking over a month ago and its not been very fun.  I'm not talking about the smoking part.  That's the easy part.  I realized that it dropped my testosterone level significantly.

Depression, quick to anger, mood swings, weight gain....

It took me about three weeks to realise that this was not going to be easy.  I've always been in good shape in spite of smoking.  The smoking part was n't all that hard compared to this.

I do not want to go onto steroids if I can help it.  Anyone have any ideas on how to get my system to restart or something?

Great, you quit smoking. Just so you know, that your hacking cough may be there even for 1 year or longer after you quit smoking. Your body will continue to rid itself of uneccessary exposure to what it does not need. Coughing up the phlegm and garbage is nature's way of ridding the body of toxins. Dont worry about it. Be glad you quit!

I quit smoking 4 weeks ago. I was a casual smoking and sometimes heavy for a night or two for about 13 years on and off. I am now 32 and freaking out. I've been praying like crazy. I have horrible anxiety and I am afraid of everything now. I have completely changed my diet for the better and stepped up my workout regimine. Everything that happens I am looking up symptoms. Just got back from Floriday and my allergies have been acting up wit ha running and stuffy nose. I haven't really had a cough or anything come up, but I have been forcing myself to cough as I feel like my throat is dry. This morning I did that and I say a little bit of blood streaks in the spit. Now I am freaking out about that even though no one seems to think it is a big deal. I blew my nose and there was some blood in that as well. Am I crazy!!!

i used to have bad anxiety and sometimes panic attacks.   i sought out numerous help and they teach you breathing exercises because people that have anxiety are holding their breath.  Guess What???  the breathing exercises are exactly the same as smoking!

also, i smoked for 15 years and switched to e cig.  it was easy.  there's no need to suffer so much quitting cold turkey.  i think our bodies are smart and we need nicotine in some ways, whether it is for the maoi inhibitors for depression or the breathing routines for anxiety.  hopefully someday scientists will find a better way to get us our medicine.  regular tobacco cigarettes are deadly, i hope everyone can get off them any way they can.

Have you tried chantex? I'm using it and I feel great. My husband smokes as well. Iv had no problem being around him or tasting it when we kiss. I smoked for 20 years and could do anything without a smoke. But, with chantex Iv had some crazy crazy dreams however I will take the dreams over breaking a promise to my kids

I won't take Chantex, but I've thought about trying the gum to help with some of the withdrawal symptoms.  I quit just after Christmas 2012  -- I'm tired of being tired.  I'm tired of being sick.  I'm tired of being in a size 14 when I was a 10 (I can fix that though).

What I hate is the brain fog and being tired for no reason.  I catch every cold that someone brings into my office.  This is horrible!

But I don't want to start again!! Just need some help over the hump!

I quit 9 months ago.The first 6 months were hell.Sever pain in the lungs, chest and really bad depression. I had a couple panic attacks also.Around month 7 it started to change and be less sever. Every day I got alittle better. Not worse.Im at month 9 and I feel so good .stronger ,healthier ,and free. I was a addict. I actually loved to smoke. It was who I was.Part of my life style.I got the flu back in December and one day I couldn't breath. It lasted 3 days.I was so scared and made a promise that if I got better then I would give up the smokes.I am so glad I stopped. As GOD as my witness.I will never smoke again. If I can,so can all of you.Trust me.It will get better.Time away from the cigs is the medicine you need.Take care and GOD BLESS all of you .
