heartbeat in ear

I have a heart beat sound in my right ear that I can feel pulsating at times. It started as a whooshing sound so I went to my family Dr. that said it was an ear infection. He gave me an antibiotic after it only got worse and turned into a heart beat sound that I can hear at night. I went to an ent and a neurosurgeon who sent me for a cat scan and even a cerebral angiogram which also came back negative. This drives me crazy!

I'm not a doctor but this sounds like high blood pressure. I recently starting having this happen. When I told my GYN he said uh-oh and took my blood pressure immediately. He said it was fine but to go buy a manual blood pressure kit for the arm. He told me to take my blood pressure periodically, especially when the sound gets loud.
Just because your blood pressure is normal one time does not mean that's what it is all the time.!!!!!!!!!
when ever this happens it also feels like someone is squeezing my neck trying to pop my head off. I can't sleep at night because it actually starts to hurt. Can anyone relate?

I've had the swooshing sound in my right ear only for about 6 months. About 3 weeks ago I had a procedure called candling done to both my ears in hopes that it would clear out the ear wax and cure the swooshing. My blood pressure has also been high (in the 140's) due to a condition that I just had operated on last week. Now my blood pressure is in the 120's. I am still hearing the swooshing though at night or when it is quiet. I don't know what to look for now. Any help?
I've felt such pressure on the left side of my head/ear. Not painful, just pressure and that stupid WHOOSH! WHOOSH! WHOOSH! It's so bizarre that it's confined to the left side of my head/neck only. The right side is not affected
I began to wonder if it's high blood pressure, although it's never been a problem for me. Then, I wondered if it could be an arterial blockage because when I depress a specific spot on the neck, it stops, but upon release, it goes right back to that annoying WHOOSH'ing and that dang pressure. It's the pressure like you have with a terrible sinus infection, just MINUS any pain. It's obnoxious and just a feeling of fullness (for lack of a better word) in the neck, just below the jawline and behind the left eardrum. All the while that stupid WHOOSH! WHOOSH! WHOOSH! I'm SICK OF IT!
Thank you! I am not crazy or alone! I have a high pitched ringing in my left ear and the same whooshing, heartbeat noises in my right ear. I have just had an mri..nothing is abnormal, thank goodness! One ent says I am losing the hearing in the ear with the high pitched ringing and they have no explanation for the whooshing noises, well, my regular doctor said it was "allergies"..I do have acute sinusitius according to 2 mri's done about 8 or 9 years ago..I take Allegra daily and should be using Flonase but I forget..my whooshing seems to act up around Jan and now..so it could very well be sinus/allergy. My weight has gone up and down 30 pounds in the last 3 years and I am experiencing depression, I lost my mother to cancer 18 months ago...I cried a lot and pretty hard and the whooshing turned into pounding that hurt! Everything seems to have started or gotten worse since the trauma of watching my mother pass and then the greiving process. I also have a potassuim deficiency that I have never had before..which I think can lead to depression..anyways thanks all! I hope and pray we are all relieved in a very positive way of these ailments. Will keep you posted on my progress or lack of :-)
Hi everyone
2 months ago I had flu, with fever and cough. I then started hearing this whooshing pulse in ear and then got lots of migraines. Now I can still hear it more quietly, but it's in certain positions, or when Im not breathing properly. It could be an ear infection, because I wear earplugs, so maybe it's just that. Like you guys, i'm anxious to know...
I had this same problem until yesterday. I read through the thread and since my doctor solved the throbbing noise, I figured I should come back and post to tell you all what solved it. I hope it can help at least one of you guys!
2 months ago, I had the throbbing noise in both years. The doctor irrigated my right ear and what came out looked like a plastic contact lens, but that's not actually what it was. What it was was residue from antibacterial eardrops. Apparently, some eardrops can leave residue in your ear and if that coats your eardrum, you'll get a throbbing noise. Once he irrigated out the residue, my right ear was fine.
But he didn't irrigate my left ear, and I still had a throbbing noise there. At first, the ENT thought it was a vascular migraine and I was prescribed Midrin for it. I also had fluid buildup and was put on Guafinex. Neither of these things solved the problem and so I had to go back.
Then yesterday I went in for the third time, and now the throbbing noise in my left ear is gone too. I was told never to use Q-Tips in my ear again to get out earwax. Apparently, if you do that, you can ball up the wax really tightly and it can wedge itself by your eardrum. Irrigation wouldn't get it out and so the doctor had to suction the hardened wax out. But now that he did, I just had a peaceful night's rest WITHOUT the throbbing noise!!
I'm really happy about this because I dealt with the throbbing noise for so long every single time I laid down. At times when it was just my left ear, I'd sleep on my left side just to try and tune out the noise. So I feel bad for those of you who are talking about dealing with it too, especially for people who've had it for longer than I did. So, I figure since he solved the problem I'd post what cured me, because maybe some of you just have debris in your ears too.
HI I HAVE THE PULSATING IN MY EAR .I WENT TO EAR DOCTOR..HE SAYS I DO NOT HAVE AN EAR INFECTION...DID YOUR DOCTOR DO ANY SPECIAL TEST TO FIND YOURS.. ITS DRIVINGME CRAZY!!!
I woke up this morning to a very loud beating in my ear that I was laying on. I felt like my eardrum was literally going to beat right out of my head and I was holding it in. I immediately had pain and popping in my jaw as well. I sat up and pushed in on my ear which semmed to be the only way to keep myself sane. This lasted about 15 min. Then it sounded like a broken speaker in my ear for about another 15 min. Then All the beating and extra noises stopped. Then while at work today, it happened again all of a sudden while sitting at my desk. Again it lasted about 15 min.
I have never felt this before and coincidentally I was just at the ENT a few days ago to setup some allergy testing and he said all looked well w/ my ears. I wonder if something could all of a sudden cause this. It's got to be one of the scariest things i've ever felt. After reading these posts im wondering if this is the same thing as you all have. To me it sounds liek more then my pulse
I was searching online and found this forum. I hear this swishing heartbeat sound in my left ear quite frequently. When I turn my neck to the far left the sound stops but if I turn it straight it continues.
Im trying to figure out if this is a serious problem of not. I have just finished a chemo therapy regimen in January. My port caused me to have a blood clot in my chest. I'm assuming because my body is gettin adjusted to the blood clot and rearranging itself the sound is from increase in flow pressure through all my blood vessels. My onocologist looked at my ears and he saw nothing unusual.
Maybe I should just welcome the new sound and get use to it? :)
I still have the annoying sound in my left ear... my thyroid medication is keeping my levels normal, I started Tricor for elevated triglycerides, and now I have a smoky cigarette-like smell that is getting on my nerves along with this annoying noise in my ear! What is going on?!
Same exact problem I push and it goes away. My ent dr said it could be related to the artery in my neck
I hear what sounds like my heart pumping blood through my body. I think whatever it is it has to do with the heart. My heart pumps fast sometimes when I hear it. Sometimes I have fluttering heart beats and I can hear all of it. I have been to the cardio doctor and had all kinds of tests. Do they know anything? I don't think so. She said my heart is at the lower part of normal. What the F does that mean? So I think it has something to do with the heart. Just don't know what. Has anyone else seen a cardiologist about this? Started about four or five years ago, off and on. I am now sixty in the same boat.
Hello,
I have the same problem I will turn on the radio to a talk station with the volume low. It keep your mind off of the heart beat sound and end up falling asleep.
I have the same problem in the same ear. I’ve had it now for 5 years! Some days are stronger than others. Today it’s very loud and intense. I see a cardiologist, and a endocrinologist. I’ve seen a neurologist. I have had a CT scan, and ultrasound which all came back normal. I have been on antibiotics, and prednisone for this. All to no relief. I just want relief! As I’m sure all of you do. Doc’s how do we get relief? It’s enough to drive you crazy.
