I had my tonsils and adenoids taken out a week ago and i am still in a lot of pain. I cant eat, i have the worst ear aches and i am crying all the time. I have lost 5 pounds and i wasnt very heavy to begin with people were always trying to get me to eat more so now i weigh 82 pounds and i am 12. I want to know how much longer i am goign to be in this horrible pain. Also the doctor said that whe thye took one of my tonsils out that it was infected will that slow down the healing. One of my tonsils took up half of my throat and it seems to hurt a lot more than the other side. Please tel lme when i will be able to feel normal and be normal again. :'( :'(

I am 33 and have just had a tonsilectomy. I did a little research on the net before the op which probably wasn't the best thing to do cos there are alot of hyperchondriacs out there!!! There was very little pain the first few days after the op but then it kicked in! I made sure I ate toast the first day after the op and found that dry toast helped clear some of the healing scab material at the back of the throat. I think the worse thing was the gagging feeling at the back of the throat due to the healing process (I think) but it does eventually go away, promise there is a light at the tunnel. Some advice...make sure you get pain killers that work for you as I was prescribed tramadol (zydol) which really didn't take the pain away plus it makes you feel really strange and spaced out! I took two weeks off work to recover and didn't have any sign of bleeding after the op but did have a little earache. I'm sure it will be well worth it. Don't get sucked in by all the negative experiences out there.

I had mine taken out last year I was 22 and 3 weeks to the day I was back in the hospital, I woke up in the middle of the night bleeding "pretty bad" overall it took about 4 1/2 weeks before I could eat norma. I lost 32lbs My doctor said most recover ALL THE WAY in 10-15 days but not me. I even drank 8 glasses of water every day to keep it wet so it would not dry up.....

I'm a 16 year old girl who got her tonsils taken out 6 days ago so tomorrow will be a week and the day i had the surgery done, i wasn't feeling much pain when i was in the hospital. Until i got home...then the pain began to fire! From the night up until this day, i'm still in horrible pain. It has not gone away and the medicine they gave me is Codine (Vikedon) and it does nothing but put me to sleep and take the pain away A TINY BIT. I have not been able to talk what so ever and i've only ate a few bites of mashed potatoes and little bites of soup. I can hardly hold anything down and it sucks because in order for me to take my medicine, i have to have something in my system in order for me to keep the medicine down as well! When you're throat is in as much pain as mine is, adn you're throwing up...it HURTS! I myself, have cried many many times and i've never been so much of a mommies girl in my life lol. I can't even swallow my own saliva becuase it's so sticky and dry so i spit most of the time. I am able to drink cold liquids though but it still seems to hurt. I have horrible ear ache's and pains in my neck and in my head and all i'm wishing for is to be normal again! I've missed a lot of school and it sucks. All i can say is a regret having this surgery and for anyone whose going through this like me...good luck to ya. I know you wanna end it just as bad as me!! >:(

Hi, I am 18 and I had my tonsils and something else removed on January 9th 2012, which was about a week ago. I have AWFUL headaches and earaches. And I can really feel where the stitches are. And my doctor told me it will take 7-15 days but about a month to eat normally. I already lost 10 lbs. but on the bright side, for me that is, I was put on a strong medicine. I'm on roxide which is a little weaker from vikes. Although this was posted over a year ago, to anyone looking up answers, drink TONS of water. Take little sips all day. Eat apple sause and drink chicken broth. Especially the broth because it really soothes the throat a lot. Mint gum also helps because I know I have a hell of a time trying to brush my teeth. And also it helps your throat cause it's cooling and it also helps stop your jaw from hurting ( your jaw hurts from the surgery due from it being pried open wider than normal ) my teeth also hurt and I cannot figure out why. But really. Lot of water, apple sause because it fills you up and it's easy to eat, and LOTS of broth. Chicken noodle soup is also good.

I am 36 years old. I have suffered from Tonsil stones for years and I am just now realizing what the problem was. I had my tonsils out on January 11, 2012. Day 1(surgery day) was fine. No pain really for Day 1 and 2. Day 2 I woke up feeling like something was stuck in my throat. I felt that I needed to cough up phlegm or something but I remembered that I was specifically instructed not to do so. I couldnt really swallow and I ate applesauce, popsicles and ice water Day 1-3. Day 3 was painful. I took the meds that were given to me (Liquid Lortab and Amoxicillin). The Lortab is some good stuff. It takes the pain away in a matter of minutes. Day 4-6 were painful because of pain in throat and swelling. I couldnt eat anything but Sherbet ice cream and eventually everything started to taste like metal. There was also this feeling that something was stuck on the sides of my throat and that something was hanging in the back of my throat. My husband took a picture of my throat and it showed the scabs forming and some food that was stuck in the scabs. The most irritaing thing about Day 1-6 was that I had to watch my family eat delicious foods and smell the food and I couldnt eat. I literally couldnt eat because it was hard to swallow. One week after my surgery, I had the worst pain in my throat (Day 7). I guess the scabs were starting to fall off??? The Liquid Lortab burned so bad going down my throat. I stopped eating all together. The medicine made me sleep throughout the day. I felt too drowsy to go to my follow up appt so I rescheduled it for the next day. I didnt make it to the next day. The morning of Day 7, I felt the scab coming off in my mouth. I spit it out and it looked just like a soggy scab. Later that day, I tried to eat a cut up hotdog. I took the Lortab meds (which burned like crazy again). 10 minutes later, I kept swallowing what I thought was globs of phlegm but it tasted funny so I spit some out and it was clots of blood. I ended up going to see the Dr. that day. He just looked at my throat and said to gargle with ice water every hour. He said that the scabs had fallen off and that blood clots were forming (I guess that was a good thing.) The bleeding did stop. I am on Day 8 and I woke up with the worst pain so I took the meds again and the scabs started to bleed a little. I realized that they were bleeding everytime I took the meds because the meds have ALCOHOL in it. That is why it burns so bad. I ended up getting Chloraseptic spray and Tylenol liquid cold, cough and sore throat meds. I used that instead of the liquid Lortab. It burns way less. It actually works. I have lost 12 lbs since the surgery. This surgery was the most ridiculous pain I have had. I have had 2 natural child births, 2 C-sections, 2 ingrown toe nails surgeries, wisdom teeth pulled, a tooth ache, a hysterectomy, 6 blood transfusions and Sciatica. The tonsillectomy pain is the worse! I am panicking because I have to go back to work tomorrow and to a funeral the next day. I cant wait to be done with this, I will post more as the days go by. I am hoping that this surgery and pain was worth it.

I'm a 15 year old female, I just got my tonsils & adenoids taken out 7 days ago. The pain on day 1-5 hurt but they were bearble. Now, being day 6 & 7, I have this horrible burning feeling in my throat! If I drink anything as simple as water it makes me want to cry! The doctor said I can go back to school within 7-8 days but there is no way in hell I'm going back to school tomorrow! I've been looking up when this is going to end (the pain) & people said that for them it took a while...a nurse said that it normally takes 3-6 weeks to heal fully. I really hope this pain goes away ASAP, I feel terrible & it seems unfair. Another thing the nurse said is to drink room temperature G2 Gatorade. I've tried that & no, it actually doesn't hurt. But does anybody know when this burning goes away fully? :/ thank you :-)
