I have recently recoverd from having my tonsils removed 6/1/14 I'm 23 and think it's worth while sharing this! Surgery went well pain wasn't as bad as expected but they do give u solid food after to get you used to the feeling and I would advise for u to try no matter how difficult it may feel ...first 0-3 with all the painkillers given taking regular I honestly thought oh is this it its cope able ...I was eating fine and drinking plenty for the next 4-7 days it got worse by the day throat dried the pain was becoming unbearable I was waking during the night crying I struggled to eat and drink I even had to ask my gp for stronger pain killers i couldn't talk wasn't coping well .. I thought I cant do this I was better of with them in .... It does get better honestly the worst is over for the next 5 days it got easier I dropped my own dosage of pain killers I was only ending them before I went to bed and when I woke ( u will notice your throat drys out and makes your miring rather pain full to talk ) by days 12-14 everything has healed and I'm back to normal ... Best thing I done definitely worth the op and pain. 2 weeks of inconvenience for a lifetime of no more swollen tonsils and tonsillitis

I didnt feel any pain till about day 5 after my surgery. I was eating perfectly normal up until that point and sleeping fine. Its not even the general pain that bothers me because my meds are managing that well enough, its the side effects to the op...like the excess mucous and the trouble eating/swallowing. All ive are the past two days is jelly but I guess ive heard people with much worse stories. I'm 19...

Hi im 30 yrs old I had my tonsil taken out 3 days ago.im the same im in pain and could hardly talk, swallow food and even drink.Even my own saliva i have to spit it out as its really sticky. I even feel dizzy, drowzy and vomited. They gave me pain relief to take home which is endone but it doesn't help at all it will just put you to sleep.at the moment im very starving all i have eaten were soft foods like jelly, icecream , yogurt and some mangoshakes to drink.i had light bleeding but did stop and i dont have earache yet.So the best thing to do i think is push fluids even it hurts but does help u not getting dehydrated. I have lost 5 kls already within 3 days.Just keep resting guys and avoid some activities.goodluck to us all.

Hi, i'm 20 and I just got my tonsils out. Main advice I was given pain medicine and pain numbing spray. The spray should be your best friend. The pain medicine I would take every four hours. Trust me take it every four hours unless you want to be in unbearable pain. The spray I would take when i needed to take my pain meds so I could swallow and take the medicine. Another piece of advice blend up juices with ice so it makes a slushie it helps so much with pain and helps to calm down your mouth. Sticking to pain meds and liquids might be hard because it hurts so bad but by doing this I was up and ready to go by day eight and my doctor said I have healed faster than most people.

Its horrible, I know. I am 14 and I'm on day 3. I have also been crying a lot, and I have also lost weight that I didn't need to lose. I am so hungry and I would do anything for a normal diet again. It will eventually get better, I promise. Just remember to drink, drink, drink. That will make you feel a little better and keep you from being dehydrated.

All of you are old enough for pain meds so take them. My 4 year old had this surgery last week and they do not prescribe pain meds to small kids so it's awful!
She's making it on Tylenol & Motrin so all you adults quit whining!

I know this is late but my surgery was 4 days ago today and I still feel like complete sh**. My jaw hurts my ear hurts I can't eat a thing only thing I force my self to drink is water and a popcicle. I haven't had any bleeding which is good but my doctor told me the 11th day will be when I'll be feeling better I just don't see how this pain could get any worse it's the worse pain I've ever had to deal with.

Drink sage, fennel, and cucumber tea at room temperature. Brew one tea bag of each in water. Purchase the tea bags from a health food store. Clears mucus and keeps the pain at bay. I also asked for Tylenol 3 but was not taking them by day nine - still sore be patient.
