im 16 and had my tonsils removed on the 7th of august. day 1 was a breeze! as soon as I woke up from the anaesthetic I was thinking to myself, is this the pain its nothing!! unfortunately day 3 is when I felt it day3-day 7 are probably the worst. They prescribed me with Oxycodone at Warringal private hospital in Melbourne. I must say it helped ALOT along with lots of water Advil and neurofen. on day 5 I started to bleed and I got worried because my specialist said if I start to bleed I should immediately go back to the emergency room, turns out that a little bit of blood is OK and that the top part of my white scabs came off. I'm on day 8 and still in pain but not a lot, my specialist said, these first 2 weeks will be very painful but it beats a lifetime of tonsillitis. just remember that!!
I can't believe you ate toast so soon after!? I'm 1.5 weeks post op and I still can't eat anything! AND I have a very high pain tolerance. You're brave.
I had mone taken out on the 12th of October and I've been out of work for three weeks now. I have had the most problems with my tongue. I agree with the healing process it feels as if I have something stuck in the back of my throat and under my tongue. I'm going to try the ice water gargle. I ate ice cream and Popsicles I have yet to eat any food besides mashed potatoes.
I had mine and for the first five days I was unable to eat, drink n talk properly. Now it's my 14th day and I am feeling pretty better.I can eat everything like pizza, burger etc.Try to drink more and more water and milk. From the tenth day I tried to drink 4 to 5 glasses of milk.
I am 43 year old female. I had my tonsils removed on November 6th, 7 days ago. This by far has been the most painful experience of my life. Open cut surgeries, two births, etc do not even come close. I was in pain since the second I woke up in the hospital and it has not stopped yet. I changed three drugs and double dose of Norco seems to help a little. The pain never goes away to 0, many 6 out of 10, the least. If I knew it would be that painful, I would never go through this experience. I just hope it heals by Turkey day so I could enjoy the holidays.
Hello, I am a 64 year old woman and had my tonsils out in March. For me , it was the worst pain I have ever encountered , including a spiral fracture in my tibia and fibula and delivering a baby during that time! I highly recommend getting the appropriate pain medication from your doctor and take it on schedule. Drink a lot of fluid, things start to get better at about day 9 or 10, but I do not regret it at all ! Good Luck and hang in there!
Hang in there, I had mine out in March and I agree with you , never experienced pain like that in my life! Did start to tolerate the pain better at about day 9 or 10. Definitely did better at about the 2 week period. I’m 64
How do you feel now that it's been a year?
How are you feeling now?
What day did it finally get better
Any Updates? Do you regret it?
Hi, I just got my tonsils out because pain from tonsilitis was triggering migraine and severe neuralgia headache (like ice pick in eye or ear on that side). Maybe there is another problem thats irritating your (cranial) nerves that causes the bad pain. Like tmj disfunction (jaw joint not working right) irritating your nerves. At any rate, you shouldn't still have that much throat pain. Maybe you should see a specialist, like an ent or neurologist or headache dr. If you really are getting throat infections over and over, have your tonsils grown back? Is something wrong with your immune system? Do you have horrible gastric reflux? I agree, it stinks to be sick a lot. Good luck.
I am 23, and I had my tonsils out 4 days ago. When I try to eat or drink, my ears begin to hurt so bad, and they feel like they are closing up. Is this normal after the surgery?
