24mg's of SUBUTEX/ SUBOXONE?! Pleeeeease, people... don't take everything you read here as "gospel." 24mg's is WAY too much and would not only be a complete waste of excessive mg's, but damaging to the body (and teeth). I've been on suboxone for about 6 years now, and when they started me out at 16mg's, it was WAY too much. And I had a 180+ mg's of hydrocodone DAILY. The next day I had an excruciating headache from the excess mg's, and immediately went down to just 8mg's. Which was just fine... no withdrawals whatsoever. Actually I could have probably got away with taking even less than THAT. Most importantly, this medication (Suboxone, not Subutex) WILL make you go into withdrawal if you have 'used' within the last 24 or so hrs. A GOOD Sub doctor will start you out (if not just temporarily) on Subutex instead... in the event that there ARE still opiates in system. On the other hand, SUBOXONE has an antagonist (Naloxone) which was put in the medication as a cruel JOKE and it CAN precipitate withdrawal symptoms if other opiates, etc are still present in the body. Same reason that the ridiculous amounts (from 500-750mg's) of Acetaminophen (Tylenol) is put into opiates like Hydrocodone, Percocet, etc... to discourage taking too many pills so that one won't "enjoy" something too much. It's obviously not about preventing OVERDOSAGE from the actual opiate ITSELF.. because if THAT was the concern, then they wouldn't have so much freakin' Acetaminophen added! It is no secret that there are millions out there with higher tolerances than others and may NEED higher dosages. >;)
Of course, heroine is stronger. But unless you're just on a lethal dose of some street drug, I would highly suggest starting out around 8mg's of Suboxone/ Subutex and just see. (Heroine, possibly higher... but NOT 24mg's!) You can always go higher mg's, but cannot go lower until 24 hrs. "Underkill" better than "overkill." Also, there are just not a lot of sub doctor "experts" and can not possibly know what kind of tapering program is best for the patient... the patient best handle that on his/her own. A very gradual reduction/taper (suboxone/subutex) will be approximately 1/4 to 1/8 mg every week or two. I have been tapering for about 4-5 months with no withdrawal, and down to 1mg. I heard that the REAL nightmare is when one finally "jumps" off of 1/8mg and within a few days the body is like "WTF...WHERE IS MY SUB!" I guess that even the tiniest amount of Sub is better than NO Sub. But I cannot justify continuing to visit the methadone/sub clinic every other day when I lower dosage to 1/2mg. They still charge the same price ($11) and there are no clinics closer to me, so I drive across state line and then wade through the DEA's absurd bulls#hit (counseling meetings, group meetings, random pee tests, etc.) I think that (1) the prices should be according to the MILLIGRAM one is taking and not be "set" at 4mg's or less. If one is taking HALF of that, it should be HALF THE PRICE!!! (2) If one is tapering and achieved a very small mg, there should be instant take homes without having to wait a month or so. With far less meetings & counseling. Big brother sure does suck Moby with all the commie rules/ regulations!
Sorry, my above post is NOT in reply to "Jayallday"- but to a "guest" that I was reading about 24mg's of Suboxone being used. Which I thought was milligram 'overkill.' (I'm new to this, and just hit the reply button of last post before mine. eh )
I recently just switched from 90 mg of methadone (3yrs) to suboxone. I have read many posts on this subject and am realizing why i feel so shitty. I never tapered down to 30 milligrams like i see everyone else did...i just jumped off at 90 mg's pretty much because i was forced to. I just moved to a new area and the clinic has only one doctor and he was on vacation for 2 weeks and i couldnt technically be transferred in, and the next clinic was 250 miles away So on my second day without methadone (or anything else), i frantically searched the web to find help, and found suboxone. I knew someone who sucessfully used suboxone and got clean, so i thought i would give it a try. Found a suboxone doctor 80 miles away, and drove down there. $250.00 later, im driving home with 10 suboxone (all i could afford). So i got anxious and popped that thing under my tounge...yuck. about an hour later i started feeling very strange.. i noticed i kept feeling worse and worse, and i got home and couldnt eat dinner, and all i wanted to do was sleep this sh*t off. the next day was hell. cold sweats, hot flashes, achey bones, and body, lazy as hell. ive been through withdrawls before and i knew thats what was happening. so thats when i got on here and read all these posts about other people switching from methadone to suboxone, and i realized i had way too much methadone in my system when i started the suboxone, I saw posts of people that tapered down to 30mg, waited 48 hours, then switched and they still have terrible withdrawls for 2 days or so. im wondering, since i was on 90mg's when i made the switch, how long is it going to be until i start feeling "normal" again? Today is day 3 of my suboxone 8mg treatment (10mg - 1 and a half pills) and i still feel some really bad withdrawl symptoms, but not like yesterday. i have been noticing my thoughts getting clearer, and all the emotions and feelings that methadone dulls, are all coming back to me, but my body is still in withdrawl. I keep thinking, just wait it out, and i'll be okay. It's pretty much my fault for not bieng honest with the doctor about when my last day of methadone was. I just knew that was my only chance unless i wanted to go cold turkey off 90mgs(for 3 years). I havnt seen any posts of anyone who has transferred from a higher dosage of methadone. I guess my question to the world is, how long does 90mg of methadone stay in your system? and how long are these withdrawls going to last before i start feeling the suboxone? so far it's been almost 3 days and even though i still feel terrible, i still feel a little less terrible than yesterday. finally got some food down last night and slept terrible. is there anything i can take (vitamins, otc) to help these body pains? I lost all my drug connections on purpose so i wouldnt get weak and relapse. Trying to be strong..
depends on the dose your on it has whats known as a half life so like 40 mgs. has say 24 hour half life,so in all reality it will take your body at least 72 hours maybe more to rid it self of it,it stays in your system a long time that is for sure,i was on like 50 mgs a day myself when my doc tried to switch me to suboxone 8mgs 3x a day,and i waited 48 hrs, before i took my dose of suboxone,i went into accute withdrawals within an hour ,man oh man was i sick like i never before was, hurled over dying dude,so the moral of this story is even after a week off methadone your po can find out depending on the type of urine test they are using ,my doc had this exotic test machine that would find sh*t in my piss that i didn't do for 10 days i was like yikes this is worse than parole, anyway i took one oxy 30 and did not touch anything for 10 days and he showed me the results of trace elements of oxy when he never prescribed me any, just goes to show you,if they wanna find it they will, just depends on how far they will go,but like i said it stays in ya for awhile, good luck :-)

ok it's been a year you still off it cause this is my 3rd yes 3rd time I was in a car accident and had massive low back pain for years after so after dr after dr finally I was sent to pain mgmt. and I started on dravocet moved to loratab of all strengths then stuff like oxycodone morphine couldn't do the patch cause I am allergic but tried that to and then oxycotin and finally the devils poisen called methadone 90 ml a day I was supposed to be taking but I took less just cause and the first time I went thru this hell was in 08 fo
as I was saying in 08 cause my dr decided he was gonna drop my ins so I slowly and it was awful for a month got back on em said I wasn't gonna but I did and about a year later I had a big test not in school so my ins changed so I had to go thru it for 3 awful weeks and now I missed a pain mgmt. apt and its been 8 days frist four were the worst but cold turkey sucks but its a lot better than slowly getting off cause I feel great I am thinking clearer and have no intense need or want to go back down this road again I do have multiple medical problems but if this feeling in my stomach will go away soon cant eat or keep anything in me and my anxiety is crazy soooo someone tell me
First off if u r getting methadone perscribed to you then your probation officer has no say wether u get off or not??? Thats the most insane thing Ive ever herd of? Ur Probation officer is most definetly not allowed to just telll u u have to come off especally if its perscribed by a Doctor!! So you really need to look into that! She is not allowed to tell you u cant be on a medication just cuz she thinks it doesnt work. And you listed to her???? No Way !!! U need to fight that!!
I have been on methadone this time for almost 3 yrs and thinking every day how I hate getting up and rushing up there like they are gonna run out. I have come off of it a few times but not by choice (locked up). In a way I am scared because I am in pain every morning I wake up. I have tried the exercises, non-narcotic meds, and it doesn't work. I would like info. on this one day detox, it sure sounds toooooo good to be true. I am going to be more open-minded and look for ways to help with this sickness. I appreciate the time and thoughts of all.
