You can only tell by inspection. Use a hand-mirror and check yourself. Do you know what you are looking for?
You cannot easily make sure you bleed first night because not all women bleed on first sex. It can depend on how tough your hymen is, its 'shape', and the size of his penis. Inserting a finger as well as, and at the same time as, his penis might help.
A show of blood can sometimes be made to appear by prior insertion of a dried blood-soaked piece of cloth.
