I have a sharp pain in my left side when I take a deep breath.

Hello, I noticed about a week ago I had trouble taking deep breaths w/o having a sharp pain on my left side. It went away for a few days, but is back again. I find myself short of air and feeling the need to take deep breaths, however it feels like I cannot take the full deep breath that I want. It is not excruciating pain, but it is definitely uncomfortable and painful. It is below my left ribcage, but not underneath it (if that makes sense). Basically where my ribcage ends is where the pain begins. I do have an awful diet(fast food) and I do smoke. I am 29 years old and I fear that it is something serious. Anyone have like symptoms or know what it may be? Or how to treat it? I obviously will go to the doctors if it doesn't go away or gets worse, but with the holidays and work, I have a hard time to get free time to go to the doctors. I've been told it could be gas, a slipped lower rib, gull bladder infection, collapsed lung or a sore or pulled oblique muscle. All but the first and last seem very scary to me, and I doubt it is the sore oblique because I havent done very many strenuous things lately. Any insight will surely help. Thank you and Happy Holidays!

I don't know what it is but it's definitely not from smoking as I'm only 12 but when I when to the doctors they checked me and said it's a sore muscle or pulled but what I don't understand is I haven't done any straining work to cause my lower left side to hurt but they kept saying it's not my lungs or stomach but my parents keep saying it will go away and it's been 5 days since I've seen the doctor and it now hurts to move any part of my torso
Pls if there is an answer I'd like to know

Hi, I've had this too since last year and it feels like some one stabbing you with a needle. I though I was the only one with such bad pain my lower rib cage, but I guess not. I would suggest asking a doctor,(this is coming from a 14yr old. I may be young but i know most things). Like I said I know what you're going through and I'd like to know what it's from, but if its not serious that would be great. Best of luck!

I have the exact same pain that you are decribing . My pain is slightly lower than my ribs . Half way between my ribs and pelvis hip bone. I am 23 am a smoker and have a crappy diet also. But I am fit and I weigh around 67kg . The pain is worse when I cough , take deep breaths, or do heavy lifting and rolling over in bed. I have had it 3 times before. Last time I was bed ridden and couldn't move. The pain was excruciating! This time maybe a 6-7 out of 10. I still havnt seen a doctor because they will probably tell me there's nothing wrong with me like they always do. Any body have any answers??
Except your gull bladder is located on the right side
I'm 14 too and my left side is hurting so bad. I went to turn my alarm off and it just hit me and I can't move. Like I'm writing this right now and I can hardly breathe or move
It could be Precordial Catch Syndrome
I have this and once I got rid of excess oils in my diet and exercised it subsided, however now that I am eating a lot more oily foods it came back. So could be related to that.
I had my gallbladder recently taking out. . I'm still having this problem. .
same with me. I am 14 and I have it. just got it last monday and it hurt like crazy. What should I do?
no, my lung collapses due to a biopsy, a tube was inserted in my chest(extremly painful) took a week in the hospital to get the all clear
i just did that and it almost completly went away.. thank you so much xxxx
(still hurts if i breath in really deep though)
spleen. Englarged. Tight feeling that gets worse on a deeper breath, untl you finally breathe all the way in, then it goes away. spleen.
So true! Don't have your gallbladder out immediately. These natural remedies work!
I have the same symptoms. I'm pretty sure it's salicylate intolerance. When I avoid foods it gets better.
