So thank your "moderated" addiction of this watered-down narcotic - two more steps up and you're a Meth addict - so focus on that.

i was waiting for someone to say that!

and yes, the non timed release does come on stronger - it's kind of like eating all three daily meals in one sitting. a big spike, and then it wears off much more quickly.

My doctor confirmed that the symptoms are coming from an oral yeast infection. Be sure to see your doctor if you have diabetes or any other immune deficiencies like me.Be sure to increase oral hygiene. Frequent mouthwash or salt water rinses helps alot.

Goodluck

I have been taking generic Adderall for a year and suddenly developed bumps on my tongue as well! Not the swollen taste buds that hurt though (which I had for a couple weeks when I first started taking Adderall). These bumps are different - They are larger, they don't hurt, and they are white. They are not canker sores or cold sores. They are on the tip and sides of my tongue. They are accompanied by a white rash on the inside of my lower lip which also isn't painful or uncomfortable in any way...just very disturbing to look at, totally freaked me out when I first noticed it! My doctor said it looked like oral thrush (aka oral yeast infection) which can be caused by an autoimmune disorder (which I don't have) OR chronic dry mouth.. which all of us Adderall users know is an issue. I got rid of the bumps and rash within 2 days by gargling 2 times a day with 4-5 drops of Tea Tree oil in 1 cup of water. If you try the Tea Tree oil make sure you don't swallow it! Just gargle and spit. It smells very strong but doesn't taste that bad.

The white patches/sores on the tongue or anywhere in the oral mucosa can be related to a variety of things; regarding the use of amphetamines such as adderall, there are correlations however.

When using this drug, the amphetamine releases a bolus of monoamines from the central nervous system- that act both centrally and in the peripheral nervous system (hence the hypertension, hyperkinetic movement, etc). Furthermore, the body's stress response is activated which makes you more alert and vigilant. In doing so, your immune system is slightly suppressed- when one is chronically stressed, their immune system is impaired; the magnitude of how impaired varies from human to human.

When your immune system is impaired or has decreased functioning for a prolonged period of time, these sores will commonly present themselves. For example, AIDS patients often have oral lesions/sores.

These sores are most commonly idiopathic (without any specific pathogenesis like a virus); however, you should have them looked at by your physician because they can also be an HSV (herpes) outbreak that you are not aware of, herpes flares up when the immune system is compromised as well (like times of high stress/poor sleep)..

Bottom line- this happens with amphetamine usage.

Live Strong.

I've been on adderall for 5 years and adderall XR for 1 year. And through all the grinding and biting and all that I have never had white bumps or film. I am suffering from this now ONLY b/c i was on an antibiotic that caused me to have thrush or an oral yeast infection. Its gross but not speed related. That means NO SUGAR till its cleared up people! Also no bread that has yeast...google what you can eat. i've found eating raw garlic and holding it as long as i can has shrunk the problem and believe me it burns!! also apple cider vinegar, not reg white vinegar it will make it worse!! call your dr and tell him you might have thrush or just make an appt in the mean time cut out sugar, yeast, while flower, sausage. You can have plain yogurt no flavoring but thats it. Cheese should be in moderation! I'm using this as an opportunity to go back to my low carb diet. Now is as good of time as ever! Hope I helped

Ya inflamed tastebuds craving more adderall..jk

Im shocked that people that dont abuse adderall have these symptoms. I myself do abuse it and always develop sores on my tongue and inside of my mouth. It also makes the lining in my mouth raw to the point even bread will tear the roof of my mouth if I eat. I dont know if this is because of 1. moving and rubbing my tongue more than my mouth is use to 2. my immune system getting week from the adderall cause herpes simplex 1 to appear aka cold sores 3. Bi-products for the adderall.

But the effects outweight the side effects, at least for now while i still havnt had a heart attack or stroke from the drug raising my blood pressure.

Just took adderall for the first time this morning. It's now 2:00am on that same day and got 2 monstrous cold sores growing on my upper and lower lip. There is absolutely a connection.

i would just like to let you know that some of us out there (obviously not you) do take adderall for honest reasons that help us live day to day and be able to actually understand what we hear rather than just hearing it. Unfortunately it does have some negative side effects like the unconscious involuntary habits. For you to call us or refer to us  as basically meth addicts makes me obviously realize that you have used it in an abusive manor and have never had to use it to focus day to day. So on behalf of all of us who use it for it's intended medical purpose and nothing else ***edited by moderator*** ** inappropriate posting***

REALLY guys? Sores in mouth are really this much of a mystery when taking Adderall?
I really feel that every single one of you need to take some time and notice YOURSELF. You're using Adderall - from here on I will call it by another name, SPEED. When using Speed, you clench your teeth together constantly, the tongue gets pressed very hard up against the backs of your closed teeth (often "tonging" the roof of the mouth and backside of gums causing gum irritation and recession. this recession can never be reversed so deal with it - you're taking Speed), from here usually all air and moisture is pulled out of mouth constantly by tongue which creates a suction forcing the interior cheek walls to pull in towards your clenching teeth, thus creating no more space in mouth for air or moisture or an idea of a "space". This type of tension is abnormal to "mouth function" to say the least.
When tongue is forced against the closed teeth - the small open areas between your teeth get pressed and filled with tongue material, and overtime all day and mostly during sleep, this pressed tongue material becomes inflamed, irritated, and as good as dead. Same with the cheeks and inside of (usually) lower lip. These are the white sores that are so confusing!! Picture your fingertips after being in the shower or pool for too long - it's more or less the inverse of exactly the same principle.
So thank your "moderated" addiction of this watered-down narcotic - two more steps up and you're a Meth addict - so focus on that.
Please, everyone, sit down for a simple hour of your life and really get to know the actions of the seemingly impossible realized notion of YOURSELF.

***this post is edited by moderator *** *** inappropriate posting*** Please read our Terms of Use. well let me tell you something sweetheart- I'm going on 30 years old & have had to be on this med for literally as long as i can remember. I have a not only annoying, but dangerous condition, LEGITIMATE CONDITION, called Narcolepsy.  since you know so damn much, i'll assume you know what that is. but, at the  same time, I have a precious little 2 year old boy that i must look after 24/7/365!! He is the reason i still take this medication today- i realize it is speed, but u wanna know something? His life and safety are my one and only priority & if i have to take a small dose of this medication each day & my body gains a dependence to it-- well THAT'S A SMALL PRICE TO PAY!!!!!!! what would happen if i did or took nothing and my child, whose life is far more important than mine, is taking a bath & i pass out for who only knows how long?????? what if we are out here on the sun porch by the lake (our back yard) and i pass out in a chair? or at the park, or WHEREVER WHENEVER? i don't even want to think about what could happen to my dear precious child in a situation like that.  ***this post is edited by moderator *** *** inappropriate posting*** Please read our Terms of Use

Wow, judgy mc judgy over here displayed tact and ability to share knowledge through the use of underlining and name calling. Two more underlined words and thank your typing, you will be a meth addict. I have a genetic disorder that makes me have a lot of problems now, and soon I will be handicapped. I was abused as a child and I'm currently in my third year of medical school. When you grow up and your parents start your life out forgetting to feed you and you learn to eat things you find, it can be a rough. I am currently in my third year of medical school and I have adhd, ptsd, whatever. I waited until 22 to try adderall (prescribed of course). Before then I didn't even drink - and I still don't. I wouldn't recommend it to everyone and I do agree that it probably isn't ideal, but it helped me figure out a lot of things in my life because for the first time I could listen to my own thoughts and memories to sort them out.  And maybe you have been through a lot; I don't doubt that - life is hard for all. But the point is someone taking prescribed adderall, versus doing meth on the street are two very different things and unless you know the reason and the person's body, I suggest you not go on the internet and spending your time writing generalizations. It's my body, I know what I'm doing to it. Some person shouting you're almost a meth addict? Yeah you're not helping anyone there. To be honest, from one person who is wary of the pharmaceutical business to another, if you wish to spread a message because you truly care about people and their lives, try and think about a more effective, nicer, and perhaps intelligent or logical way to get it across. The last time someone told you that you were two steps away from being a crackhead, do you think you would go "thanks internet person, you shouted just the right amount. I'm gonna trust you more over my doctor, my feelings, and my family." So in short, you don't know me, so don't call me almost a meth addict. You are not conveying any information that anyone doesn't know. We know it's speed; don't be so condescending. You are neither educating, nor sharing experiences, nor listening. So when you are screaming to get to know YOURSELF, I recommend you take your own advice. If you have a meth addiction, I wish you well in figuring it out.

I've experienced the same issue.  I think you get sores on your tongue because you are sucking on your tongue while on the stimulant plus you haven't slept allowing your tongue to heal.

It really is sad that you have to degrade other people's problems with blanket insults. I am 37 years old. I am in the medical field and am repulsed at you reactionary response. I read up on the central nervous stimulant we are on. How dare you compare this to meth. His does not seem to be a board of drug seekers rather people who have been given medication for a problem that may or may or may not correct the underlying problem. That said, I am a 37 year old male who has never, I repeat never taken any drugs recreationally. Also, I have never had alcohol in any form. I had the unfortunate occurrence of a very bad cold that was probably a viral infection that led to damage in the regulatory part of my brain. I became suddenly narcoleptic. Fast forward a year and a half and I am on a cpap machine and have gone through various tests to get to here, now. I can function now whereas before I could not sit for anything more than a couple minutes without falling asleep. I lost my entire want to do anything. I went from being hobby crazy gogogogo all the time husband and dad to a couch potato. My wife would say how weird it was that I was watching tv. We tried Ritalin and I burned through it so quick that the doc switched me to Dexedrine same thing. To remain awake I needed to take borderline dangerous doses. Never did I get high or really get enjoyment from this. Now on adderall for a month and a half and having problems with the tastebuds too. I sometimes need to augment the day's usual dose with a short acting Dexedrine. Luckily the nationwide shortAge of 10mg dex allowed me 5's. But if I do take that I find my tongue gets all OCD about any restorations in my mouth. Tongue thrust becomes a new issue. Sometimes biting on my. Tongue to stop it from exploring all day is problemAtic. On top of that, with the dry mouth added with the cpap. The air sometimes just flows through once relaxed and asleep causing almost a leather Ike mouth interior. This is all relatively new. It is a nuisance on top of he things we have to deal with alreAdy I have noticed that I have developed an OCD pattern that I have little control over and that is very hard for me as I feel I have lost a portion of control. But, if I quit this drug, I am afraid I would lose my job, family, house, crash my car, fall asleep in a restaurant etc. So, I del with swollen tastebuds I just don't talk about it. I prefer to use a fingernail at the base of the offending bud and the other fingernail on the other side of the angle of the bud. With a gentle push and sliding of the bid between the nails it plucks out nicely. It usuAlly does not bleed or hurt too bad and if it does it is worth it in 20 minutes. Unfortunately, the OCD part kicked in and instead on just acne I am going crazy looking for more tastebuds and removing them before they start the swelling thing. They seem to get wispy and white before the swelling begins. So, call it what you want, there are bad things that come with taking meds. It sucks. But taking this drug that does not do anything more than keep me a little awake, back cramps, weird potty problems, temp change extreme nervy reactions, dry mouth, swollen tastbuds.... It keeps me awake and not crossing over the center divide because I fell asleep on the road. People that are on it probably do not want to be on it. I know I don't bit I like living a little again. Speed is for people seeking a high or drug. This prescribed amphetamine does not give most of it's prescribed recipients anything more than they need to get by, not get high. Most of us have some sort of guilt that we have to deal with regarding having to medicate ourselves or family. For you to come and victimize and judge the people who are looking for advice is pure cowardice. Some of your facts were correct but your presentation was an attack in communication. I am sorry for you that you feel like you need to degrade those in need. Shame on you.

I have been taking adderall for about 15 years and only in the last few years I have been experiencing the mouth sores. It does seem like my tongue is dry when I get them. I read the side affects to adderall (the paper that comes with your medication from the pharmacy) and it does mention mouth sores but I do know when I first starting getting them I read the side affects and mouth sores was not listed on thre. Maybe now enough people listed it or something, but I think they change these meds so much now being with all the generic forms available.

There is nothing more repulsive to me than someone who gets their enjoyment from putting  other people down for whatever reason.  I take Adderal for ADHD which is prescribed to me by my doctor and I thank God for it.   I have never abused drugs and just because some of you are fortunate enough not to have an attention deficit problem, you do not have the right to blast those of us who do!! You have no idea what our world is like.  We struggle every day to keep focused on things we need to do, people we need to pay attention to, projects we need to complete, etc... the list can go on and on! This is not a disorder that we can help.  This is a disorder that we are born with.  We know that Adderal is a form of speed, but we also don't have the reaction to it that those of you do that like to abuse it!  Instead of making us hyper, it helps to slow our brain down so we can actually focus on what we need to do!  So, PLEASE get off of your self-righteous soap box and don't try to tell us what we are taking or that we need to get in touch with ourselves.....I personally think it is people like you who need to get in touch with YOURSELVES and stop pretending that you are among the elite because you are not affected by any medical issues....it must be great to live in a fairy tale world where you are presumably perfect and can look down on others who aren't as fortunate as you!

Now, for those of you that have responded to this question because you know from experience about the sores on the tongue, I want to thank you.  I have only been on this medication for about 6 months.  I have tried others that just didn't help me as much as Adderal does, but the sores on the tongue had me a little worried.  Thank you so much for those of you who are truly aware of this problem.  I appreciate your input more than you know!
