The steroids contained in most inhalers can cause yeast growth on tounge/mouth... We r taught as nurses to have patients rinse thr mouth with water after using each and every inhaler to prevent this, hope that helps

Solution = Water. But that gets old. MILK 2% is very soothing. Any food rich with olive oil is great too.

New here and new to knowing anything about ADD.

I'm very resistant to take anything.  I'm 37 and for the first time my life made sense when I started understanding what ADD was and how severe mine was.  I resist taking medications.  My drugs are tums, Ibuprofin about twice a year, and antibiotics when I come down with something.

Anyway, I started Adderall 3 days ago and I started getting pretty severe cold sores along with a slightly swollen tongue 2 days ago.  Normally for canker sores I'll put an aggressive amount of salt on it for as long as I can stand (maybe 2 minutes) and then spit and rinse.  If I do that a couple times every day they are less tolerable and go away faster.  Just trying this now....no results yet.  I'll try Gum, milk, and less sugar although I don't consume much sugar.

Frankly I've been far more relaxed since I started taking Adderall than I had been before.  I'm more able to leave work at work and prioritize what's a big deal and what isn't.

I know people who take Adderall or similar meds who now only take it when they need it....maybe once per week or two.  I'd like to use it that way.  Time will tell.

As for the "we're all methheads" post above.......pure comedy from an ignorant person.  I enjoy that just like I like watching a dog chase his tale.  The simplemindedness of it is amusing.

I had the same mouth sore tongue sore problem.  Take   B complex vitamins and eat yogurt for a few days.  Then continue to take the B vits and your tongue will heal.  Mine was so bad at first I was crying.   Now I am fine.  Also take a daily vitamin on top of the B's.....

Has ANYONE found something to help with the jaw clenching? I sit at work and grind my teeth to the point where I think they'll break. Tried gum and candy and all that just get stuck toy obnoxious dry mouth cheeks. The side effects really are miserable. If anyone's figures out anything, the tips would be greatly appreciated.

I've been on Adderall for a few years and I get the sores on my tongue. I also feel like I eat the insides of my cheeks up.  My girlfriend actually noticed that I'm chewing on my cheeks in my sleep.  My mouth is MISERABLE.  At first I thought it might be thrush because I use an Albuteral inhaler but after reading this I'm sure it's the Adderall.  I just wish that I could get some relief.  My mouth hurts so badly some days that I can't eat or drink anything :(

I just started taking 30mg Adderall on Monday (it's now Wednesday) and by Monday night my entire bottom lip was torn to shreds.  I know I chewed my lip some, but I don't know how much of it I did myself and how much of it is based on dehydration, etc.  I've nearly doubled my daily water intake and I'm still dealing with these sores and lips so chapped that they're splitting when I yawn.

I have oral allergy syndrome (which basically means I have an allergic response to things that I'm not really allergic to where my tongue/lips swell and itch. awful.) so at first I thought that was playing a role in these symptoms.  I still havn't ruled that out as a contributing factor, but after reading all of these responses, my side effects seem pretty common.  Did any of you notice these symptoms so soon after starting the medication?

I tried Vyvanse (Adderall XR) and didn't have these mouth sores but I also didn't feel the positive effects.  Has anyone had any luck with the Ritalin family of drugs?

Thanks!

Let me just say I agree whole-heartedly that these tongue problems are a side effect of the regular insta-release generic adderalls.

personal observations:

dry mouth, tastebud inflamation, and severe splitting of the tongue surface such as you get on barren ground in a drought.

I tried to drink with a friend for my b-day and the crown royal felt like a thousand needles raping my tongue with gusto! I have a dr. appointment tomorrow and i will be inquireing about all of this. Due to sudden loss of insurance i can not afford my time release meds anymore. when i was on the extended release i did not have this problem. within a week and a half of the switch, my tongue went off the "ouch" chart.

I have found holding a capfull of apple-cider vinigar on my tongue and lightly moving it around until it stops burning (nothing compared to the alchoholic beverage that i tortured myself through cause i paid 8$ for it lol) do not swish like mouthwash cause your teeth likes its enamel! TONGUE ONLY. now that being said it provides me with about 4 to 6 hours of relief and my tongue feels normal again. when the discomfort comes back i just do it again. bout twice a day and i am reletively pain free. this is coming from someone whose mother taught me to brush my tongue with extreme predjudice since i was 7 yrs old and never had this kind of problem until the switch to insta-release generic adderalls. try the applecider vinager(forgive spelling) it does work no c**p.

I posted earlier about the sores in my mouth that started almost immediately after switching from vyvanse (time-release) to adderall.  By the end of the week my mouth was so torn up I could hardly eat and had to stop the meds altogether.  It took my mouth about 5 days to heal up and then I tried cutting my dose and have had no problems...yet.  Haha.  I'm hoping it stays this way!  I was taking 30mg pills (which apparently is a really high dose for someone that's just over 100lbs) and began taking half pills (~15mg).  It may also have something to do with the fact that I often forget to take my drugs when my schedule changes (like on the weekends, over school breaks, etc.).  That may give my mouth enough of a break that it doesn't get too torn up-or maybe its a combination. I don't know what's responsible, but I'm not changing anything as long as this keeps working!

Good luck to all of you still battling those awful sores-maybe you can try taking a lower dose more frequently or just take a week off to let your mouth heal!  Hope you can find something to help you!

Thanks for the tip. I am having the tongue problem after taking Vyvanse 30mgs/daily. I hope I don't have to quit taking it because of this, but my tongue is out of control as well as the chewing the inside of my cheeks. This med really helps my chronic fatigue and unbelievably, my joint pain due to arthritis. Grabbing the apple cider vinegar right now!

I am 53 y/o and have taken adderall for 15 plus years. I do also experiance some of the issues within this
thread. I came here hoping to find a few solutions. After reading your post my heart went out to you and I
realized how fortunate I am to only suffer as mildly as I do. Shame on me for ever complaining about the
small trouble adderall causes me. Bless all of you, "For only by the grace of God, there go I".

It is partly due to dehydration and the other adderall being a stimulant. This also happens to cocaine and other stimulants. Absolutely, i agree that bursting the tiny bubbles alleviates it. Mine comes and goes. But sometimes the amphetamine dosage may be too high. It is the medications fault that you rub your tongue, bite your cheeks, some grind their teeth and jaw popping or involuntary twitch in jaw. i have been on adderall for 3 years now for narcoleptic reasons. I mean i get clarity but certain times i get antsy. Same thing happens to people on illegal stimulants. LL cool j the rapper attributes his licking his lips was from cocaine, but caught on as his gimmick! I drink lots of water, i also try to breathe through my nose and put my tongue to touch the roof of my mouth closed. Its kinda funny but just this morning i told a friend that i wanted to cut off my tongue but then the stump wouldnt stop either. I do want to add to the college kid with stress of finals. You probably are getting them or selling yourself to your doc that you adhd. Never mention college finals and addys together. Its obvious. I dont judge but felt to call you out. Its not ok just cos they are legsl. Drink coffee, espresso or buy coke. The sores appear b/c we are making them. Does the side effect outweigh the benefit of the substance ii controlled addiction worth sores in your mouth and tongue & when it is leaving your body we know because we become moody pricks. BLAME IT ON MY A.D.D BABY
