I have mouth sores on side of the tongue and inner cheeks and lips along with tongue bumps. They're painful and sometimes have been bigger than the size of a nickel. It's due to Nuvigil and Vyvanse mainly but also dry mouth due to other prescription meds. When I don't take Nuvigil and Vyvanse I don't get mouth sores. I must take them for Idiopathic Hypersomnia along with excessive daytime sleep in order to attempt to stay awake. Sometimes I can sleep through them and other times I can get a good 4-5 hrs of productive time but at the cost of oral sores and oral thrush, it's too painful even taking weekend breaks.

What I have done to help:
1. I do NOT use products with SLS in which most toothpaste does. I stick to Act Dry Mouth or Biotene.
2. I keep my teeth flossed and brushed especially after eating and before bedtime. Makes difference.
3. It's essential to keep the mouth hydrated. Drink water; chew sugar-free gum; oracoat melts.
4. Cut back on sugar and yeast intake b/c you will increase your risk of oral thrush (fungal infection).
5. Get a prescription for an artificial saliva spray such as Aquoral for dry mouth.
6. Keep a prescription for Magic Morton 2.0 (Nystatin, Benadryl, viscous lidocaine) swish and swallow.
7. Keep a prescription for Nystatin as an alternative or in addition to #6 and use daily to avoid sores.
8. Avoid antibiotic treatment unless you absolutely have to. Increases thrush risks.
9. Warm salt water rinses are helpful.
10. You may get Motrin 800 prescription for inflammation and pain.
11. Use a humidifier in your bedroom while you sleep even if you have a CPAP machine.
12. If you have Diabetes, your medications such as Metformin can contribute to the cause.
13. If you have any form of HSV take meds such as Valtrex.
14. Avoid acidic foods like applesauce, citrus fruit, food that pokes like tortilla chips.
15. CHECK FOR B12 levels with a doctor. If you're deficient it causes mouth sores.
16. Check for Vitamin D deficiency as well.
17. If you use glucocorticosteroids especially nasal sprays like Veramyst, it increases risks.
18. Avoid products with alcohol such as mouthwash. CloSYS and Act Dry mouth rinse are good.
19. Salty products will also aggravate the oral sores. Choose soft foods low in sodium.
20. Consider a multivitamin like a One a Day if they're no contraindications.
21. Use probiotics. I use Activia low sugar yogurt and Good Belly juice.

When you know the cause(s) and what can heighten oral sores and thrush, pinpoint it and treat or eliminate the root cause.

The only real difference taking the regular adderall vs the time releasing one, is that your sore younger, or mouth sores, dry mouth whatever the issue is will just come on quicker, because it’s not time released. Meaning the medication will come on quickly and with more power since it’s all at once. So there really isint a difference. However if you took a smaller dose of the time release one, it may make a difference a little bit because your body may just be getting to much of it, therefore unable to regulate properly. Adderall in general takes away your body’s salts inside the cells that help your body function the way it’s supposed to. So loss of salt in your cells when adderall starts to wear off could also contribute to the sores. Try at night to replace the salts by Powerade, or magnesium supplement at night, something like that.

I have started getting those painful “ “lie bumps” too but only since I have started the pills that are not time release. I wonder if it has something to do with th buffering of the drug and possible increase in stomach acid.

If you do have mouth ulcers, or cankersores taking 500mgs if Lysine (a supplement) will get rid of them. Lysine is an essential amino acid that supports the structure and function of collagen that is found in skin tissue. Take 500mgs a day until they are gone then take 500mgs every third day for maintenance.

Thank you!!!! I definitely agree with all that you have said happens. I have been on it for a little over 2 years now and am anxious to try the peroxide rinse to alleviate the canker sores!

This medication causes your mouth to become dry, try a pectin cough drop you may have to keep a few handy in your pocket, hope this helps. (I prefer Luden’s wild cherry throat drops)

I don’t really understand why everyone is so offended by this person’s comments myself. I’m on adderall 20 IR/daily over the last year but I feel the commenter is just speaking the truth. It is very close to meth and it has some horrible horrible and severe effects on our health. I appreciate the honesty and didn’t take it as a judgment. The human body was not meant to flourish on a daily dose of amphetamines. It’s just the truth.

Well said. It is nice when people of intellect comment.

It's the increased heart rate the increased stress from the amphetamines in the Adderall and then you're not eating which creates acid in your stomach which is pumped to your tongue and creates a lie bump just man up and take clean toenail clippers and pop that bad boy quick no p***y footing,or just do not not eat and it will never happen,I just literally pooped on right before I wrote this ,it's Monday morning I did Adderall Friday no food

it's been a lot of years since the date of this OP but I'm coming across your very to-the-point reply and I love the honesty esp in 2022. Wondering how you're doing and if we could chat. I don't think you'll get a notification to this? Maybe in another 14 years. Hope it's all alright
