I have had the same issue for a week. Went in to the doctor who gave me some augmentin and Flonase for 2 weeks. The second day I didn't notice the smell at all but today it's back now again. Hopefully it will be gone soon
I know what you mean I constantly smell somenthing burning whether it is toast or cigarette smells and this gives me headaches. I was told it meant a sinus infection is coming.
I've gone thru this and found out that there is mercury in our laundry detergent! Yes, we've stopped using the detergent and all is good! Crazy...why is there mercury in the detergent? For sheen and thickener?
I hope you were seen by a doctor and had a brain scan. From what I have been reading, if the smell is associated with headaches and nausea, it could be more serious. Not to scare you, but I think you should take further actions to finding out the cause.
O dont smell cigarette smoke mines more of a burnin fire smell that gets stronger by the day iv had it for 3 days now an its getting that bad were my eyes are watering and its burning my throat its like im in a burning building and inhaling the smoke anyone have any idea what can be causing it no one else can smell it just me
I used a neti pot and a rinse that I bought made of salt and essential oils. So far, so good. Worked immediately, and has lasted all day. Even my breathe smells better to me. I was always smelling either smoke or garbage. This has been happening for a few years. I think it's dust and/or mold allergies. I know I have both bc I've been tested, but I'm just realizing it is probably correlated. Try the neti pot. I've read several times that some ENTs will actually smell your nose, and are able to smell bacteria build-up. It smells foul to them. The only way to get it out is to use a rinse. Good luck, and don't use antibiotics! Pretty sure it's made mine worse. Fungal candida from antibiotics can create a yeast infection in your nose, and if you have mold allergies like me, it's a sinus disaster. ENTs are surprisingly clueless most of the time.
Most likely these smells are caused by a poison that is in a certain product and that is what you are reacting to!
I would love to know if you ever found answers. I have your same symptoms.
Me too. It's been going on for months. It isn't taking over my life so I just keep on doing what I'm doing but as I sit here, I smell it. Sometimes it takes my breath away while I'm talking. I decided to look it up and thought I'd find nothing, so imagine my surprise! Now I know it is more common than I thought, but I'm yet to read anything helpful, other than I am not alone!!!
Christmas 2008, it iced over really bad and I slipped and hit the back of my head on the curb. Since then, I have a bald spot where hair will not grow. As of the middle of October 2015, I've experienced this overpowering sensation of cigarette smells. Initially, I thought it was recently quitting cigarettes after so many years of smoking but I have stopped before never to get this sensation. It's making me sick at my stomach and is mostly present when I try to sleep at night. Reading these posts and especially reading "have you hit your head" this is now a concern since I have hit my head really hard in the past but again that's been many years ago. Has anyone found the answer to this phantom smell?
It does not appear that anyone has found the an answer as to why they are smelling phantom smoke. This is driving me nuts! It wakes me up at night and I can't sleep. I keep reading " has anyone hit your head", well I did several years ago and have a bald spot on the back of my head where I hit, what does this mean? I keep asking my husband or anyone around me, do you smell smoke? It's almost as if I can see it in the air as well. It gets so bad at times I choke and have to go outside to get the sensation of a breath of fresh air. I'm making an appointment with an ENT to see where this might lead and I will post my findings. This is the most bizarre thing I have ever experienced, it wakes me up at night and I can't get back to sleep because of this horrible smell. Initially, I wrote it off as being an ex-smoker and possibly having withdrawals but I'm definitely second guessing this now. It's almost comforting knowing others out there are experiencing this problem and it's not just me.
I've been having this for almost two years. I thought it must be my nerves, due to me losing my brother and mother in law. I also develop panic attacks. My cousin just past and this morning I began to smell the cigarette smoke again. I opened every window and door in my home, letting the cold wind blow in. And now the smell is gone. Hopefully it's just something simple.I'm a non smoker and no one in my home smokes.
For the past 2 weeks, I've been smelling ashes. It's not just at home anymore, but everywhere. I feel like it's hard to breathe and néed to escape to some clean, fresh air. It's driving me crazy!
This started 2 weeks ago and it's 24/7. It's called Phantosmia. There's a ton of medical articles on it.
