I am only 19 and I am having problems with this, too. It only started yesterday, but it hurt so much that I wasn't able to sleep at all. Also, lifting heavy weights with that arm does seem to help, as mentioned before by someone else. I am perfectly healthy and work out regularly, and I do not recall any injury or anything similar that may contribute to this pain. It is driving me crazy, and I can't imagine having this pain for over a year like the other people in this forum!
I also have the same problem and I am told that it is called PLURACY. This has something to do with the lungs having fluid in them causing the pain between the shoulder blades. I dont know.
I've had the same pain right next to and under my right shoulder blade for about to 2 years now and it comes and stays for about a week then goes for 3 then comes back again. The only cure i have is getting a professional deep tissue massage that is focused in that area. After thats done i take an Ultra Strength Bengay patch and put it over the affected area. The only time it doesn't hurt is when Im using it to do certain activities.
I have been told by a few people that it could be PLURACY as well
i have a pain just between my spin and right shoulder blade everytime i step heavily or jump i get a sharp pain please help :-(
Ok hearing this sucks, but I have been dealing with this stabbing pain under my right shoulder blade. It has ruined my life Im 35 years old and have lost everything Im living at home with my parents. I'll start at the begining in 94 I hit a tree at 75mph in a trans -am the airbag didnt inflate after recovering I started having a deep itch under my right shoulder blade after seeing multiple drs I was referred to orthopedic surgen dr dean who misdiagnosed me as having snapping scapula disorder then preformed a surgery call a scapula birsascopy (wrong spelling) after this surgery I was in the same amount of pain but more intense he covered his ass saying that it will get better but he was so wrong my right shoulder started dislocating constantly which was so painful that I found out very quickly how to put it back in place by bending over and throwing my arm forward and twisting it till it popped back in place after years of dealing with this the pain got so bad that I started going to pain management Im now perscribed so much pain medication that Im sucideial most of the time. Life sucks on this much pain medication dont start if you havent already Ive been on 150roxicotian and 200 methadone and xanax for the constant panic attacks. This past sept 30 i had reconstructive sugery on my shoulder and when through psyical theropy. This did not fix the main problem with feels like Im getting peared through the chest and into my spine and under my shoulder blade most of the time my pain is a 7 on a scale of 1 to 10 but gets to be 8 or 9 a lot. Ive seen over 50 drs and had just about every test known x-ray, mri, nerve conduction bloodwork echo card, and on and on my family pays my insurace my present dr is a spinal specialist and pain management he is preforming nerve ablasia with is suposed to deaden the nerve but he has done one and it didnt work it was between T2,3,4 I think but it didnt work so we are tring another spot. I do have buldging disk at C6,7 and T1 that where are shooting at oh yeah my right leg is completely numb all the time its a numb but painful I think its something totally different please help me I cant go through life like this :-( Jay
I can't help but my problem sounds exactily like yours. Let me tell you about my past. 16 years ago I got the problem, went to doctors chiropractors for 10 years. I wouldn't sit at a desk. 6 years ago I had an accident on my mountain bike, flipped over the handlebars and crashed on my left shoulder. Ta Di Da - the pain was gone. Was gone for 6 years. I woke up 5 weeks ago with the same pain, been going to chiropractors, doctors, physical therapy and still have the pain. I'm considering crashing on the mountain bike again.
I'm a female 28yrs old. I had this prob 5yrs ago! I went to ER cuz I thought I was having a heart attack. But come to find out it was muscle tension. I sit at a computer everyday at work type, and I'm also at computer when at home. Dr ended up giving me an inflammatory script(I don't remember name, I think Cipro). So I'm just guessing it has to do with my posture. And stress can cause it too! Good luck!
I am a 28 year old female and when growing up I always got a sharp pain in my back when eating something to hot or cold in one certain spot in the middle of my back. It would also happen if I ate something to big and swallowed it or didnt have a drink right away. It would cause me a lot of pain I would have to take a drink for the pain to stop. This does not happen a lot just every once and awhile. Just the past couple of days I am getting a similar pain under my right shoulder blade. It woke me up in the middle of the night,to try and explain it maybe it feels like it could be gas or like something pushing a nerve. It is not a constant pain it comes and goes and seems to get worse when I swallow and when I lie down. I feel like I am describing a reflux but it is a stabbing pain not a burning pain. I hope someone knows what this is please help... ? ?
I've had pain in my shoulder blade for over three years now. Dull always and sharp sometimes. Its terrible. The doctors tell me it will not go away and to live with the pain. It is a condition called snapping scapula. But it should not cause pain so they don't want to help.
I too have similar problem, that's because of spine tissues or connecting nerves are irritated, may be because of continuous pressure on them. don't go for long drives when you have pain Next to shoulder blade. take rest as much as possible when pain raises.
buy a Traction from Walgreen and use as per instructions. it slowly resolves your spine problems and try to do YOGA every day to get strength for backbone.
it takes long time to heal spinal tissues. but Traction can give immediate relief. if you neglect the exercises it will also effect hand nerves or leg.

[if this Traction didn't work for you. return it] I am pretty sure. that resolves spine problems.
do stretch exercises everyday and keep change your positions when you are at work. GOOD LUCK

Folks, I've had this problem for two years and when I seen weightlifiting mentioned I thought I'd better add my bit. I found a really good sports injury doc which put it down to posture. Pain behind your shoulder blade is generally a transferred pain from the neck which is more than likely a posture issue. A really good exercise is standing back to the wall with arms raised and try to force your wrists to touch the wall, without arching your back. 3 reps at 30 secs each for about a month helped me (you'll also find this exercise on youtube).
Also with weightlifting, as your chest muscles get bigger and tighter it pulls on the weaker part of your traps. Long chest stretches will help this. I suggest a trip to a good physio (it took me 4 different physios to find the right one).
I'm back in the gym no but still wary of the injury.
Best of luck.

I also have this pain I am only 23 years old so it shouldnt be anything involved in internal things but i also had surgery on my rotator cuff on thats same left shoulder and it always hurts however never this bad or stabbing like this but every few months and sometimes even years so I almost wonder if its cause your shoulder was once injured? doctors never seem to have the answer for me either they just chalk it up to my surgery but this is an awful pain to have to deal with always!! I also was told one time that sometimes shoulder blade pain is refrred pain from your gull bladder so maybe thats something that should be checked? in any case if anyone finds a solution or a way to make this awful pain go away please inform me for goodness sakes!!
i have the same problem. my idea? you have a bad shoulder. something is torn and your over compensating for it which makes your back hurt.
