I am having the same issue. I have noticed that when i drink coffee that has liquid creamer in it, i get hives. However if i use powered creamer im fine. I had Starbucks yesterday, and last night i was itching like crazy i had hives on my legs, thighs, hips, and feet and parts of my feet were swelling( my heel, as well as right under my toes) i figured it would be fine today..... but its not, my feet are still swollen as are my hands, my feet hurt to walk on, and my hands hurt to. My hands and feet almost feel raw like ive been scratching them non stop. Ive tried Benadryl, and oatmeal bath. The benadryl seems to be helping as far as the itching goes...but its not helping the swelling at all. Any one have any ideas? because im completely dumb founded as to what it is, and if its because of the coffee then i dont know why its lasting this long.

My girlfriend has been suffering from many of the same symptoms so many of you have described. I've taken an active interest in her case to try to help her find possible reasons a/o treatments for her symptoms. It's basically the same in that she starts with swelling of her legs, feet and hands. Sometimes this is followed by hives at times. While the basic temptation is to say it's a simple allergy, there's really no such thing as simple. On the TV show 'Mystery Diagnosis' that broadcasts on our local cable station, a similar case was shown on one of the programs. It described my gf's symptoms to a tee. The swelling, relentless itching, red rash a/o hives. Turns out it had to do with the lady on the program being allergic to her own projesterin. After she had a hysterectomy, her symptoms completely disappeared. Now I know that's quite dramatic but in her particular case, the timing was great because she'd already had her kids. She also kept a solid journal during her symptomatic outbreaks, describing when her symptoms occured and all of the sordid details. With a little research, her and her doctor were able to narrow it down because her symptoms seemed to increase or become worse as her cycle drew closer, during PMS and her cycle onset. So by keeping a good journal, she was able to help her doctor determine that she was allergic to her own projesterin. They'd tried all of the famous anti-inflammatories, such as prednisone and others but nothing seemed to work for this lady until she actually had her uterus removed and went on hormone therapy. It's also noted that this tends to be symptomatic as a lady approachs menopause or 'peri-menopause'. Just saw your postings and thought I'd share this with you. I truly hope this helps somehow. Good luck to each of you! Don't forget...your doctors are NOT going to have all the answers. If you're relying on that then you'll wait for years. Get involved and do just what you're doing above...do a lot of your own research. You'd be surprised just how many folks have to basically 'treat' themselves by digging up important information like you are doing! Take care!

I had the same problem . I went to the alergy doctor and he said "even though you use certain things for many years , you can become alergic to it ". I starting thinking my cycle didnt start 8-| , and i was not pergnant , so the doctor gave me someting to make me start , and also i had no bowel movements for days :$ . After i got those to things out of the way , may itchy rash and swelling went away . I hope that helps :-D

Hi,

Recently I have had the rash everyone has been describing and swelling hand joints, I talked to my mum who's been having similar symptoms (but doesn't live near me) and she firstly went to the dermatologist who thought it was an allergy of sorts , secondly she went to the doctor who said a rash and swelling joints can be a consequence of Thyroid disease, been hereditary this could explain my case, hope it will help :)

Has your uric acid been checked? This could possibly be gout. My hubby went undiagnosed for 16 years- he got to the point that he couldnt walk then wound up at a quick care clinic where he was diagnosed! Have your primary physician do a uric acid blood test then, if positive, see a rheumatologist for continued relief!

Guest wrote:I am very late on this topic I know. But the same has happened to me for the last 7 years. Been to many doctors and Homoeopaths.

My feet, knees, thighs, elbows, hands, finger tips, ears, lips, eyes, tongue and throat have swollen all on different times before. It normally starts out as a small red rash, like a mosquito bite, and is really itchy. If I apply pressure on the spot in any way it seems to swell more and become more itchy. It has reached such a point that I was not able to put my shoes on, or swallow, because my feet and tongue were so swollen. At one point I could not close my hand or bend my fingers.

I also thought it could be alcohol, but it also happened to while I was still in school on Sundays specifically for some weird reason. I then realised that I played sport every Saturday and after a big nights partying you are seriously dehydrated (normally due to beer, anything above 4 litres). "Have two beers and stick to whiskey, but also make sure you drink water as well".

Added to this I have lower back pain, which I was told from my Homoeopath that my Adrenal glands over work and therefore apply pressure on my spine. At University I could out last all my friends and out drink everyone because the adrenaline would keep me going and therefore did not realise I was dehydrated. Only the next day, afternoon would I feel it (be hungover).

It normally takes 1-2 days to completely go, with water being the best solution. I sometimes drink up to 5 litres a day "seems to be the only thing that helps". I have also realised that my urine goes dark yellow, which is another indication of a lack of water.

My solution- Ensure you drink at least 1.5 litres of water a day, cut down on the beer, keep hydrated whilst doing sport or pushing your body. And Party hard!!!

I have chronic migraines, muscle spasms, fever, joint pain, and a rash that appears on my right hand. It's been happening for years now but usually only when I'm stressed or nervous about something. I'm 18 years old and I was supposed to walk across the stage for graduation this saturday and I can't because of these symptoms. For the past three days (the longest it's ever lasted) I've had these symptoms and nothing is helping. Does anyone know what that is and how it can be treated??

hello, glad to find all of you here, your posts have been helpfull. Im a 45 year old man, I drink socially on the weekends (beer) and on occation not all the time, the next morning after a beer fest with my friends i will break out in the rash so many of you have described; wring worm type hyve on the back of my neck, scalp, side of my face, around my ribs, on my shoulder blades and hips. My lowerr lip will swell up like ive been punched, I get hot and red. It is always the same thing I wake up, have a coffee, cook breakfast and then it starts usualy 2 hours after im awake and only on the days after a night of drinking. Another couple of syptoms is a sharp knot in my upper stomache /lower lung area (like an air bubble or something), I get tired and a little irratated. I gues the simple answer is quit drinking or at least not as much but what is it and why now ive been drinking beer for decades with no ill effect other than maybe a hang over and a few regrets, is it a build up of something? By the sounds of it the medical society cant really pin point what it is but now after reading these threads I have some info to bring to my doctor. perhaps if i show him a derection to look he can come up with something.

hi people. im 25 yrs old, male. ive had these rashes since i was a kid but been coming more frequent latley ,doctors didnt know what it was cos when i went for the doctors appoitments the rash would be gone.i would get the rash which is very itchy but ITCHING JUST MAKES IT WORSE,DO NOT SCRATCH!, when i leave the scratchin try get some sleep the rash would be gone when i woke up after a few hours, i had several blood tests but these dont tell you anything, 2-3 weeks ago i felt weak and collapesed next thing i knew i was rushed to A&E,were my rash appeared and the hospital could see it happening ,they said its very serious as my eyes swollen rash all over body, some vomiting etc, they think it could be iburofen which i always take never had prob before , i told them it would be gone by the morning and it was. even baffles them, but they said its an allergic reaction wich could lead to death very quickly if not seen to.(i.e swollen throat etc), they have booked me in to see a specialist in allergies on 15/11/2011.will let you know how i get on. im not a doctor but i advise you you all to see your gp and tell them you want to see a specialist before things do get worse, also my best advice is do not itch even thou its very tempting.

My son has a similar issue.  He's 9 now but has been dealing with this since he was 5.  It starts as a ringworm like rash on his lower abdomen (where the waistline of his pants sits)  Recently it has spread to his chest, back and inner elbows.  It's a nickel allergy and it can hit anyone at any stage of life, swelling in extremities can happen in severe cases.  The abdomen rash is caused by belt buckles and the buttons on jeans, coating them in clear finger nail polish or colored for the jeans buttons (helps you know when to reapply) helps keep the nickel from contacting skin.  Anklets, bracelets, coins, necklace clasps, watches, pretty much anything that contains a questionable metal can cause a rash depending on your suseptibility.  There are prescription strength creams to help with the rash, and benadryl should help with the itch.  If your the type of preson who dresses up for that night on the town, ask yourself what you wear when your out that you might not wear on an everyday basis, even perfume and cologne can contain trace elements.  Hope this helps some of you.

try asking your doctor about lupus or being allergic to gluten

Hmm,

I would look into Gluten-Sensitive Enteropathy (Celiac Disease) and see if any of those symptoms describe what you feel. Some symptoms include Dermatitis Herpetiformis.

It's all related to reaction your body has to gluten (wheat products) is the best that i can describe it.

Do we all have things in common? Does anyone eat lots of bread and other glutens?
