Kidney Stone Info/Tricks from a guy who's passed more than 200!

I looked through some of these posts and I see that a lot of people have kidney stone issues and have been, or are going through many of the situatios that I have. I have become a sefl-taught expert on kidney stones since I have passed over 200 in my lifetime. I have a congenital kidney disease called Medullary Sponge Kidney Disease and it causes me to make stones like most people grow fingernails. When you pass that many stones, you get to know your body and tricks to make things less painful so I thought I'd come and tell of some experiences that might help others. In addition to passing more than 200, I've also been through 7 Lythotrypsies so I know all that as well. I passed my first stone when I was 20. Typical severe pain in my left flank area, like a knife pushed deep and twisting. That lasted several hours and landed me in the E.R. It took me 3 weeks to pass that stone but I finally did. The pain is typically the most instense pain a man will ever go through. The way I know it's a stone is that no amount of re-positioning makes that pain better. It stays the same incredible intensity throughout the experience. For those who are not familiar with stones, the pain is caused when the stone is pushed down the ureters on the way to the bladded. Generally, you will pass a lot of blood the first few times this happens. Not usually bright red blood but very dark rust colored. I actually passed blood the day before the pain. Didn't know, at that time, what was going on but learned quick. Over the years, I have so much scar tissue built up inside my ureters that I no longer pass any visible blood and seldom feel the stone passing down the ureters. I have even passed 8mm stones and never knew which side it came down because it didn't hurt. But that was after the first 50 or so. I also know WHERE in the ureter the stone is by the type and location of pain. I know a stone is right near the opening to the bladder because I get this very regular spasm, about every second or so, but the pain is felt in the tip of the penis, as if the stone is actually stuck about 1/2 inch inside the urethra. But higher up the ureter the stone is, the deeper I feel the pain in my penis, ie: If the stone is 1" from the bladder, that spasming is about 1 & 1/2 inches from the tip of my penis. This is when I know I have to push a ton of water. I generally know when the stone passes into the bladder as I get one more very intense sharp spasm... the kind that make you scream "OUCH"! Then I get ready for the next step... passing it through my penis. This is less painful than it sounds but always shocks the sh!t out of me, excuse my french. It almost always goes like this... I start peeing, and right near the end I feel the stone hit the exit of the bladder. I generally don't get the stone out then. Often it literally gets stuck in my urethra which is really painful and is noted by a sharp pain in that area when bending forward. Then I do this trick... I drink lots of water, wait until my bladder is really full and hit the bathroom. I then hold the very tip of my penis tightly so that no pee can come out. I release the stream, causing my urethra to expand (like in the cartoons when someone plugs a fire hose and a big bubble grows near the end), then I release my grip. This cause a huge, fast stream and generally pushes the trapped stone out. Often, I have to keep squeezing off the penis, over and over again while trying to keep urinating, eventually, I pass the stone. In cases where the stone is particularily large or difficult, I will fill the tub with very warm water, get in and get down on all fours, reaching back to perform the same squeezing technique. This allows you to pee underwater and point the penis straight down, an aid to getting it out of the lowest point in the bladder. Yes, I end up sitting in a bathtub full of water (and my own pee) but it works. I find a huge stone in the bottom of the tub. Then I simply shower. Because I form stones so fast, they are generally very jagged, like quartz crystals with spikes on the ends. Stones that spend years froming are generally more round and easier to pass. But often, my stones don't show up on xray because they from so fast, they are not dense and therefore, not radio-opaque. This oftens causes me issues as new doctors think I'm faking a stone. Another trick I use is when I have a stone stuck in my ureter for weeks or months. I go to the E.R. and have them hook me up to a normal sailine I.V. and push it wide open. This moves so much fluid through my kidneys that the stone often moves to the bladder with 2 hours. But this is not recommended for men over 50 as having that much fluid in your boday can cause a heart attack. Basically, you are simulating Congestive Heart Failure by having so much fluid going through your bloodstream. I haven't done the IV thing since I turned 50. As to what causes my stones, they are almost always calcium-oxylate, the typical type. Drinking colas is the number one way people get these stones. But eating nuts is also not a good idea. Many people say coffee is bad (tea is very high in oxylates) but I actually drink only coffee for the past 5 years and have greatly reduced my stone issues. I do drink lots of coffee and some water too so I think the hydration alone is what's working. I spent 2 years drinking 2 bears a day... never created a stone in 2 years. But I couldn't keep my beer gut from forming. Beer is a great diuretic. I also try to take a Flomax when I know I'm about to pass a stone. Makes it easier to release the prostate and get flow going. These are just some of the things I've learned over the years. I hope they help someone. I came here today because I feel like I passed a stone into my bladder but have not been able to flush it out. And at least half the times I go to pee, there is nothing, no pain, no stone trying to exit the bladder near the end. This is very unusual for me. And it happened the same last month... felt I passed a stone but never did. So either I have one stuck in the bladder (which BTW happens often... the bladder is not smooth on the inside, it has lots of folds and crevices that like to hold onto stones) or I am experiencing prostate stones for the first time. I came here looking for symptoms of those as they are new to me. Good luck to all. Drink lots of water!

36, first timer. Went to ER 2 nights ago. Passed out from the pain. Hurt so bad. Good to hear I'm not alone in being scared of the pain coming back. Thx man.
I had a stone for 18 months and decided to see a doctor who sent me for ct scans etc. But I didn't want to mess around going to hospitals etc. I read that most stones are calcium oxalate so I took a gamble. I took two magnesium tablets 4 times a day and 2 vit b6 tablets 4 times a day. I passed two stones 36 hours after first taking the tablets. I don't know how big they were, no bigger than 3mm I think. Apparently the magnesium dissolves them and the b6 speeds things up. I learnt of this trick on a vitamin company website. 2 years later I have a 12mm stone, too big to dissolve so I am looking around for something else that will work.
I'm76 and prostate problems for years. Latest miracle: turmeric, black pepper and MSM. 3 or 4 times a day. Reduced my inflammation in prostate substantially!
hii sir can help me to remove my kidney stone permanantly
What is your diet like? How much water do you consume? Do you eat the items that are high on the hit list: raw spinach, red meat, chocolate, sugar, soda, desserts?

Save This For Later By CloverQueen New Reply Followed by 1 people CloverQueen 16 minutes ago It was nice reading your post. It was like reading my own experiences with chronic kidney stones. With the exemption hat I am female and do not have the luxury of the penis tricks. I instead have to just rely on drinking tons of water and letting it shoot out of me. After years of stones, I too have scar tissue built up and pass them on accident sometimes. Almost always though, the stones go back into my kidney. This was once witnessed at the hospital on some kind of scan. Now when I have the pain and it never travels lower, I assume it went back into the kidney. I too have had doctors act as if I'm faking it. Especially since I seem better off than others since the scar tissue had built up. Far better than my first stones at age 19 where I couldn't stop throwing up every five minutes from the pain. I have had to pass stones twice at the 9th month of pregnancy, weeks or days before labor. I kept my stones that I have passed. My husband could not believe I fished them out of the toilet. I was proud of them! Of course I want to keep them. I couldn't imagine just flushing them. I feel great after reading your post. It's exactly my story as well. Knowing where the stone is and what will happen next... well what led me here is because now I have one stuck at the bottom and it will not come out. I look funny with a rice pack on my crotch all day long, when I am at work, I just suffer without. I wish right now I had a penis, and could squeeze it out, I instead have to endure the burn. I hope this does end up passing and does not get stuck Indefinitely. I wanted to add that I drink coffe as well and can't handle tea. One drink of some teas will immediately make my kidney hurt. I recently discovered Matcha green tea and all of its benefits. I've been drinking it and making it into puddings for two weeks now. Go figure, now I'm passing a kidney stone. I was not aware that there were fast growing stones and slow growing stones. The ones that I pass are jagged so it would make sense that certain things I drink immediately cause pain. How fast can they grow?
I am on my first bunch of stones (mid 40s). 14mm and smaller with over 7 and they couldn't get all. They said mainly due to meds I'm on for my back and all is how they formed. I have had back issues (that is what my anky is about as well as trauma) for several years with 3 'surgeries. I would take that any day over the stones, haha. The pain before the kidney stone surgery was the worse pain I have ever had and I have played ball with a broken collar bone and finger, so pain isn't a big deal to me. Even with the stent that they put in after the surgery to break the larger stones, was uncomfortable. Had to have that in for a month until after the second surgery. I wish I would have known about these tricks earlier. Hope you don't continue to get them. Did they test yours to see if your meds caused them?
Hi moovyz131953. About 6 years ago I was making a sizeable stone a month and had lithography 3 times. I was prescribed Indapimide and for about 5 years I still made stones but of a manageable size. A year ago I was in serious pain and had Litho. I had a scan and was told my bladder was like a quarry and I needed them removed, via the penis! 52 were removed November 2016 but they caused a bad stricture in doing so. This culminated in a total of 5 weeks with a catheter (over 2 periods due to infection). Since then I've had all manner of size stones being ejected from the bladder. Hardly a day goes by without 1 either passing or stuck in the penis. Lately they are stuck for a week and then 2 to 5 come out. I'll certainly try your techniques as I'm pig sick of it all now! Cheers for taking the time to post. Thanks  ***this post is edited by moderator *** *** private e-mails not allowed*** Please read our Terms of Use
I have a 9mm stone in my left kidney that i simply cannot get rid off. I went to litho a couple of days ago but nothing. I'm peeing into a clear plastic cup but I'm not even seeing a single tiny bit of stone. So i guess that failed. This thing aches on and off, and even occasionally causes visible blood in my urine. This can't be good for my kidney and i want the thing out but don't know what to do. Should i just be patient and wait and see if the litho shockwave thing worked?

Hi Jim Can you tell me the best way to take the lemon juice ? I have an 8mm stone down at the pelvic area now ! I'm due a ureteroscopy (quite scared) so on here trying to look at ways to pass it ??? I've also waves of burning pain in the penis area ?? What about olive oil ? Do we just add it to water ? How much etc ? Thanks for your advice indeed . B
I am almost 50 myself. I have passed over 60 kidney stones since I was 20 years old and have had 8 lithotripsies. I am much the same in that I no longer feel the stones in my flank, but rather feel it in my groin as a constant pain as if someone were squeezing my testicals. I have tried the low oxalate diet, I have tried dieretics and I have even tried home remidies such as a shot of olive oil and lemon juice every day. Nothing seems to work except lots of water and the occasional trip to the ER or my urologist.
I have a 4 mil in the front I have very bad pain. Like a Knife going threw my front side. I have had 3 pain attacks 1 all night one when I decided to go to hospital and next day after hospital. The meds did not mask my pain I ended up throwing up and sweating hot and cold plus the pain. Its unbearable . I had to go back to get 2 shots to help me. I hope to pass these one.
That's not true. I've drank olive oil to pass stones, and I can see oil in the toilet after urinating.
