OK that post just added to my stress level which will probably cause me to lose even more hair on my legs. I too have the same problem with hair loss on my calves. My father had it as well. I've always attributed it to wearing dress socks (many are way too tight) and dress pants to work for the last 16 years or so. Dad went to work in the same getup as well for over 30 years. Lots of polyester I bet too. I will ask DR at next checkup just to see if he has any insight.

The condition can be caused by edema (swelling of the legs) combined with wearing tight dress socks.  Does the bare area end at the top of where you wear your socks?

Hi. I came across your post. I contracted Lyme disease and one of the odd things that happened was that the hair on the outside of both legs from knee to just above ankles just all fell out. It happened fast, and early on in the illness. It hasn't grown back (I'm still sick and in treatment).

It's not a huge deal, but my doctors have noted it as a strange thing. Your post caught my eye because I'm wondering what your doctor attributed it to, and also...who is your lyme doc? I can't seem to find a way to message you privately here, maybe you'd prefer not to say who your doctor is. However, I would be very interested and would like to tell my doctor about it.

thanks.

Always comforting to see people with the same problems !! I basically have noticed hair loss on my upper thighs (both identical areas) and on the back of the calves. The hair loss on the back of the calves was more dramatic and literally just appeared whereas the loss on my thighs has been more gradual. If I were a betting man I'd attribute the loss on my lower legs has something to do with wearing a wetsuit - i surfed every weekend during this period and when I'm taking my wetsuit off, i tend to just frantically rip it off my lower legs due to the cold and my desire to get into the car pronto. The thighs I would put down to wearing jeans - as I've spent the last few months working in construction and wear jeans daily (something i never did before).  It maybe something to do with circulation, I wouldnt rule this out.. but feel the root cause is the friction from tight clothing as I have fairly large legs.

I'm 22 years old and I, too, start to loose leg hair.
Also symetrical on both legs.
I enquired in my surroundings and found out that it's nothing to worry about. Because i worried a lot when i found out i was loosing leg hair.
My dad has it too. It's something that happens to men from North-European decent. I, myself, am 100% North-European and so i have the hairloss. Many Americans are from north European decent, so if you are a white American and you are loosing leg hair, then it's genetical.

It's my first winter that i start loosing the hair. Therefore, i was shocked to find it out. There is a huge chance that in the spring your hair will grow back, then it'll stay the summer and auhtemn. In the winter months, it'll shed again.
It's also possible that it comes back in smaller amounts, ending up with nothing by the time you are 50. Still, it's only cosmetic. It's not something terrible.

North Europeans have some strange genetical traits. We are more likly to get Alzheimer and we loose our leg hair. C'est la vie.

its peroneal alopecia, i happens to about 1 in 3 men to some degree. check it out.. most common reason for this type of event. could be stress, circulation , or something serious, but doubtful 9 out of ten peroneal alopecia.

Hey guys same problem here.  The theme seems to be that we are all reasonably fit and take regular exersice.  I cycle and was wondering if it was a blodd flow issue caused by the exersize.

I will tray and get an appointment with a deretologist and post any findings.

I originally thought it was my jeans wearing off the hair on both my calves, but then realized that this should have begun as a teenager (I'm 38 now) as I was wearing jeans everyday while skateboarding (since 13).
Now that I have a desk job, I find the hair loss more common (as well as knee aches), but this is due to the stagnation that accompanies a desk job.
The poor circulation (back of thighs all day against desk chair while on the PC or tablet) for 8+ hours a day.
I changed jobs (fieldwork) and began exercising again, and while the tenderness and swelling is gone, I am slowly gaining hair on my calves again after 2 years.

If this were happening as a teenager (and I wasn't overweight and lazy), I would consult a physician immediately.

My husband has the same thing and no one has replied, he is soon to be 51 and has always had hair on his legs. Last 3 years maybe I have noticed it going, now he has virtually no hair on his legs, I do remember his Dad was the same, but he was 72, he says there is no sensitivity.
