I have a friend who suffers from graves disease, and I have never dared asking her much about her condition but I know that it is progressive and potentially life threatening. My friend is in her 30s, and I want to ask you what the average life expectancy for graves disease patients is?

Immediately they used radioactive iodine to kill the thyroid. I've tried synthyrod and tirosint
And I have never felt good at all on either.
I read an article on a natural pig thyroid "Armour". I went to my specialist and asked about it and he said normally if the synthetic meds don't work then he recommends natural. I seem to be feeling and doing a lot better . I'm not 100% by no means.

I have had Graves for almost a year now. My eyes are starting to bulge I have muscle weskness, personality changes, nervousness, anxiety, and I can't stop going going going! I'm burning out very fast. I had a baby last march so trying to take care of her and deal with this is hell. It's been untreated for almost a year and I'm just finally seeing a specialist who knows what she is doing. On the weight gain subject. Im 22 5'6 and I can't get any lower than 135lbs. I still hAve fat but zero muscle. It's very depressing
I am 70, run away undiagnosed graves nearly killed me when I was 42; as a result, stopped smoking and drinking too much (with the help of my girl friend), lost weight, and began a reasonable fitness routine, looks like I could live another 20 years.
my symptoms are similar to yours, sometimes I feel like this list is too long and I'm imagining it all, after ignoring it for years and just recently seeing a range of doctors I am being told I have Graves diesease and a hyperactive thyroid... I don't know the severity.. I'm 20 years old but my muscles are weak I have tried many many methods of weight gain because I weigh anywhere between 89-94lbs depending on how bad my health gets, my eye has been bulging for a year.. vision just started getting bad, double vision, migraine headaches, muscle pain so serve I am uncomfortable all day long. I am also always fatigued... my heart beats extremely fast, I'm worried that I may be at risk of having a stroke and I'm barely an adult....
I LOVE THIS. Such a great attitude you have!! I have had Grave's disease for about nine years myself and was diagnosed at 22 years old. As long as an individual maintains a close relationship with their doctor, seeks proper nutrition/exercise and knows when to rest, there is no reason a normal life can't be lived. My great aunt was diagnosed with Grave's disease and she lived past her 80's while smoking cigarettes and not eating a healthy diet so I am confident with my life choices ( being a non-smoker, athlete, and extremely healthy eater), I will have many years to see and do whatever I want to!!
God Bless your attitude! It's probably why you are so active. ! Please go on to medical school , you can help many. Stay the way you are , your an inspiration. ❤️
I am the same exact way , and have already had 2eye surgerys from thyroid eye disease that i got from the graves....
Keep telling my dr about the symptoms, she dose only blood work and says everything is ok ...But the symptoms are driving me crazy...
You are truly inspirational. You are fantastic. You are destined for greatness!
have you had any side effects with Synthroid? I was on methmizole and couldn't take it any more. I may have to do the Radioactive Iodine, my doctor thinks I don't really have to do the surgery but this will be my 3rd Endo that I've seen. When I go on the web pages I get more upset just thinking that Graves disease you lose some quality of life. How depressing even at my age, over 65, but look like 55. I've had too many surgeries to go for another surgery but waiting for this doctor to give me feed back after he speaks to one of his associates. I've done a lot of research and asked many questions.
Did you have your thyroid removed or take the Radio Active Iodine treatment? The more I read about everything the worse I feel. It's my third Endo I'm seeing and I have Graves disease and the doctor thinks doing the RAI treatment I won't have to do the surgery. I've had too many surgeries but I was on methmizole and couldn't take it any longer to regulate my levels. The side effects were terrible for 8 months. But I'm worried about taking Synthroid not the generic but if I can't handle this medication I don't know what else there is to take. So confusing.
I went through a lot of that same rat race trying to figure out what was wrong :( diagnosed after 5 years today
Do you realize synthroid has confectioners sugar, lactose, acacia(tree shrubs) and other ingredients going against the special diet we are supposed to be adhering to? It is maddening.
Have you considered that it may be Hashimotos, considering the weight gain and how hard it is to lose it.
