I am 19 years old, I have been smoking cannabis for a fair few years now and I find even when I go to sleep of a night if I don't have weed pretty much as soon as I wake up my stomach gets crampy, and feels acidity and then I throw up. I have previously quit weed and it was awful I threw up for about 3 days straight not even being able to keep water down and was in hospital 2 nights in a row on fluids. But I found even when I had given up and all the weed was out of my system I was still having really bad stomach troubles. When I am smoking weed and it is in my system that my stomach doesn't hurt or feel acidity or nauseas, it's only when it's not dominate in my body/blood stream. I am planning on going to a GP but I was just wondering if anyone knows anything about this. I also like another post experience the coughing up of resin and suffering from a persistent cough lately.

I have had reoccuring stomach problems ever since i was a teenager (now 20 years ago). I started to self diagnose myself with having digestion problems and eating unhealthy (although I have always done sports and concidered myself to live fairly healthy (except drinking to much)). However, I was never a regular pot user untill my early 30s when a change of location got me introduced to an environment where i started using this on a regular basis. I used pot daily during nearly one and a half year, and as soon as i would have a week or so of from pot, i could feel the beginning of a new period with stomach aces comming up. If i then got back on pot these symptoms would dissapear rapidly.

After once again switching location, I abruptly stopped using pot (with hardly any problem). One year after i stopped using, i started to feel the old familiar stomach pains comming up, and i thought that i needed to change diet and excercise more to turn this arround. That did not cut it this time. I experienced the same symptoms as so many others have been describing in this thread (even the throwing up of blood). I went to the ER and they (after giving me IV and blood) performed an endoscopi, and concluded that i had a bleeding ulcer caused by the bacteria (which i can't be bothered googeling the name for), and which had probably been the cause of my stomach pains during the last 20 years. During the endoscopi the sprayed some adrenalin on the wound - which stopped the bleeding - and after this put me on antibiotic to get rid of the bacteria, together with some medicin to lower the acid level of my stomach fluid (which would help the wound to heal better).

Three days after the endoscopi i was as good as new. And let me say that this was an express recovory compared to my usual home made cures for stomach pains. They told me to lay of alcohol for a month or so, but said that i didn't really needed to think more about it then this (well, they also said that smoking in any form slows down the healing process in the stomach). It has now been 5 month since this incident and i have been living in a way that would normally trigger stomach pains (bad diet, drinking and to little exercise (i will turn this arround very soon)) but nothing, i feel very good.

The reason why I am writing in this thread is because it sounds as many of you suffer from the same sympthoms that i did, and maybe you could get helped if you were tested for the bacteria Helicobacter (yes I now Googled it). During my years as a pot smoker, using actualy seemed to help me during those times when i started to feel stomach pains. I am not ruling out that pot might be the reason to why some of you are experiencing stomach pains, but it might not. And simply quiting might not just cut it to get to grips with your conditions (many arguments in this threads sounds a bit as when i was perfomring my own self-diagnosing). Reading this thread, it gives you an impression that it is a clear cut case that pot causes stomach pain, but remember why we all ended up here - we searched for stomach pains & cannabis, and ofcourse you gonna end up with a thread with a lot of stoners that have stomach problems. However, it might just be that the % of stoners with stomach problems are not much higher then the non-stoners with stomach problems, it might just seems like it when reading this thread.

A lot of you people seems to have visited the doctor, and tried most things and I can only hope that you will get rid of the pains (I know how horrible it can be). But I aslo hope that some of you who have not visited a proper doctor do so because it might help you.

Right now I am just hoping that they managed to cure me, and that I will not experience that pain in a long time to come.

I have the same problem many of you are having and I was diagnosed with dyspepsia, GERD, and Gastritis. I have seen various doctors and various specialists but only one docter was able to help me she is a homeopathic doctor named DR.Ikenze. I am pretty sure the symptoms you all are having are directly related to smoking marijuana because once I quit for a month and was getting treated I got better, but when I started up again the symptons got even worse. I would recomend quieting gradually and seeing some sort of homeopathic doctor or herbalist.

Hi everyone I just read this post and thought I might try my hand at shedding some light on the subject with the extensive research online I have done.

About 2 months ago I developed a pointed pain that seemed to be associated with the right side of my stomach and my first thought was that I had an ulcer. When I smoked weed the pain became much worse which prompted my search for answers. Im still going through the ringer with my GI to find the actual source of the problem but along my way I have found information to strongly suggest that smoking of ANY sort can cause a stomach ulcer to become irritated. It has more to do with the gulping of air and the fact that carcinogens and other foreign matter the body does not use is then transferred to the liver and heads through the Biliary Tract (Liver, Gall Bladder) which is where the acid in the stomach is regulated. Eating omega 3 and 6 can sometimes help with this problem. Also that THC entering the Liver while believed to cause no damage does cause it to kick into gear and can cause inflammation in the Gall Bladder and Liver. If your actually having an issue with your Gall Bladder such as stones or a Bile Duct malfunction smoking Marijuana seems to cause more pain in about 75% of people while a slight few say it either has caused no change or helps. I'm sure the severity of the issue has something to do with it. If you have been prescribed medication for ulcers and find it is not helping and smoking Marijuana is causing additional pain it may be time to ask a Dr. about your Gall Bladder.

On another note smoking cigarettes will definitely NOT help the problem if its an Ulcer but the same things apply in relation to the carcinogens and god knows how many other things are in cigarettes we rely on the Liver to remove.

If you smoked and suddenly got sick there are other things to consider:
Where is the source of your Marijuana coming from? Improperly cured weed can have mold or other things you definitely would not want to be smoking or inhaling and these can effect the lungs and digestive tract. Ive also found that for some odd reason SOME people who drink and then smoke Marijuana become sick while if done in the opposite order it can fix the issue. What medications are you taking? Believe it or not there are some medications that can react with Marijuana and cause you to become sick.

Just some food for thought. Hope this helps all of you. I will post again when I have found the source of the problem and try to draw a conclusion from all of the information.

Hey I've been having the SAME problems and have been given the SAME treatment and I'm still having problems. Have you gotten better?

Hi, id just like to say that i also experienced these stomach problems, constants rumbling / discomfort / nausea and arnt able to eat. Well it is from smoking weed, it also helps get rid of it but will make these symptons hang around for longer. Me and my dad (both weed smokers) have both experienced this and it last from 24-72 hours. I have not had weed in 2 days now and feel much better then yesterday. It is the chemicals building up in your system from what i have been told.

My advice, QUIT! (only untill its gone, then hit a big bowl!)

Hope this has helped.

Hello again everyone.

So it has taken around 3 to 4 months to rule everything out and find the actual problem. The pain I was feeling was a type of Khrons related disease much like Ulcerative Colitis. Not chronic but caused most likely from a 30 day antibiotic I had been on for a bad bout Bronchitis shortly before this all happened. Word of caution when using new Antibiotics because they are so strong nowadays and they destroy the natural flora in our digestive tract I have found Dr. recommendation and studies that show to avoid problems like these we should start Probiotics with atleast 10 Billion active cultures or more immediately after finishing Antibiotics. The Ulcers also could have been caused by a couple of bacterias that may have been killed while I was taking the Antibiotics well so its really hard to say but these are the most likely causes.

To treat this problem I have been put on Omeprazole to help regulate my stomach acid as to not inflame or make worse the Ulcers and Probiotics to balance out my digestive tract. Its been a slow process and the healing seems extremely slow although thats understandable considering were talking about the uncleanliest place in your body. I do feel I am getting better and the pain has lessened to just a feeling of a mass in my side everyonce in a while when I've eaten food that upsets it.

Smoking Marijuana after being on the Omeprazole for atleast a month and a half stopped hurting and started helping. I believe my original statement that the severity of the issue has a big role to play in to wether it helps or hinders is correct. In conclusion I believe that while Marijuana does not cause these problems we can see MJ make things like this feel worse when used to treat it. I feel that the per person situation plays a big part and that its truly is not the same for everyone. If your having pain from smoking weed I doubt you actually have an issue with Marijuana itself and I would suggest Probiotics for a month and a 2 weeks rest from smoking.

Oh and btw Ulcers are one of the hardest and possibly the last thing diagnosed from a GI specially when they are looking for something thats causing a large amount of pain.

Hope this helps guys.

this comes from smoking too much at a time. i am 48 and have been smoking off and on since i was 15. i have learned that you need to be careful and limit your intake. stomach pains are a result of eating too much too fast. ulcers can be caused by stress and maybe you have them or had them because you didnt want to tell your parents. (that i understand) i hope things got alot better for you.
i was diagnosed this past month with IBS and an intestinal ulcer. smoking pot helps to relieve alot of the stomach acid i experience. i have had issues with lost of appetitie, nausea, and loose stools. this all happening for some time (doctors knowing that i smoke pot). i have had to change my diet and let go of a lot of foods i like. i dont think pot it the main reason for peoples stomach issues, but it could play a part in it. alls i know is when i smoke it (every night) i dont experience any sysmptoms like people have described. guess it works different on every one. but also remember we have not idea how the stuff is grown and with what pesidcides or ?? to enhance its potential. these additives can be the reason some people have the stomach issues.
jsut have to be careful and undertand why you smoke pot and not let it consume you. if you are smoking more than once a day, then there is a problem... pot is also a dierectic and that means it has a natural substance that can speed you up and give you stomach cramps... anyhow just my thoughts.. never be too afraid to tell your parents anything... the end result will be worse than if you tell them.

Im actually 24. Im very well educated and driven and yes I smoke a lot of Marijuana. My parents have known since I was much younger nor at this point is it an issue since I pretty much take care of myself just fine ;). I have a fractured L4 and L5 vertebrae and started smoking after I had been prescribed pain killers. While stress can cause Ulcers to become worse it is actually an imbalance in bacteria in your stomach or intestines that creates them. I wouldnt even for a second try to say that I dont use marijuana everyday and the truth is its never stopped me a day in my life. I believe the farce that you can become consumed by Marijuana is in the persons brain itself just like hoarders or people addicted to sex etc. Basically and bluntly a character flaw. I would suggest vaporizers and you wouldnt have to monitor your intake at all and yes make sure that your purchasing from a clinic, legally and with recommendation, that tests what they get in for chemicals and mold and bugs when they purchase.

I myself had a hard time believing that weed was causing my sons sickness, but we have ran every test possible, ultra-sound a scope
on his bowels, stool samples, blood work, its crazy,
I know more people that smoke than dont and have met one other person that also thinks it was pot making her sick
my son smokes a bong not joints , and does poppers, maybe that has something to do with it, but he hasnt smoked since and
he and I see a difference he is eating a little more ,I mean he was eating with the munchies but if he wasnt smoking ,he had
no appetite ,and the smell made him nauseous, I dont know., Im not a anti-weed person I smoked it chronically myself for many years
so I found it hard to beieve, but its the only diagnoses that we have found and I have seen others while searching the web claiming the same
thing,   not a hater just tryin to figure my sons problem out,
