The marijuana itself does not cause the liver damage, but all marijuana has small amounts of impurities and other plant materials that CAN be very damaging to the liver, especially over time with long-term chronic use. As previously stated, not everyone will get liver damage, but is much more likely in a long-term marijuana smoker than a non-smoker.

the combination with the milk thistle with marijuana will not make much difference, but I'm not what is contained in your detox stuff so can't help you there.

Also, marijuana CAN contribute to health problems.

It is physically safer than alcohol or cigarettes and if used on occassion in moderation is pretty harmless. However, while it is impossible to overdose, and no one has ever DIRECTLY died from marijuana, those that smoke chronicly over the long-term tend to have more health problems including liver damage, lung diseases, and many other cancers and health problems in general. They also tend to get sick more often and stay sick longer even with simple things such as flu or colds.

It has recently been proven in many studies to suppress the immune system, which may also contribute to the higher numbers of those ill who are chronic smokers.

Bagget,

I have been studying this issue for several years because of of my own extensive use. I have read several dozen reports about marijuana effects on the heart, liver, and lungs. I don't think your problem is from smoking weed. If I could ask you some questions, we would probably find out that, you may be overly sexually active, or physically in-active. There could be a different underlying issue that puts you at risk for the current problem you are having.

But, I willl admit, you will never be 100% sure that it didn't cause your liver damage. Too much of anything is never good for you.

Hi. I`m 21 yo F and have a liver damage. I don`t smoke cigarettes, I don`t drink alcohol, but I smoke marijuana. I think that marijuana is the cause of my liver damage problem. I couldn`t tell my doc about that and wonder does anybody know something about that?

I forgot to mention one other thing. DIET!!! Diet has everything to do with your liver. Poor diet, no exercise, and smoking pot, could be a recipe for disaster. Start eating liver friendly foods, (spinach, broccoli, parsley, dark green veggies, and things with sulfur) eat lots of garlic, (kills almost anything including cancer, it also has sulfur compounds for liver detox process).

the only liver damage i've sustained in my twenty five years of burning is all the fatty foods i've eaten over the years due to having the munchies 24/7. now i have NASH , or inflamed fattly liver and have had to fight the munchies, but i haven't stopped burning and my lab numbers are coming down...

marijuana smoking does not cause anything. it is associating it with cigarettes and rolling paper while smoking it that is deadly. And of course, the quality of your marijuana also affects. 30 years ago, marijuana was clean, natural weed. today it's full of fertilizers and often mixed with disgusting things to make it heavier (glass, pills...).
if you smoke clean weed with an electric inhaler (herborizer or volcano) it will not do anything to you, on the contrary, weed is known for its beneficial effects on the body.

so please, research yourself before posting conservative alarmist extremist right wing ideology...

Smoking marijuana introduces ionizing alpha radiation to your throat and lungs through the smoke. Ionizing radiation destroys cells and can cause cancer, making smoking it a risk, albeit about the same as an unfiltered cigarette.

Alzheimer's, as of Dec 2007, is uncured. Marijuana is great for delaying the symptoms after an onset of the disease due to its ability to relieve cranial pressure. It may slow down the progression, but does not cure it. Happy smoking - and don't listen to any m***n who says smoking anything doesn't carry a risk.

I'm sorry, I cant say much about liver damage or what may cause it, but I can agree with Merrydown's post on marijuana. I believe that the only thing you should put in your lungs is oxygen. That is what they are intended to have in them, not smoke or any other substance - of any kind, period. I think if you are worried about the possible negative effects smoking weed can have on your health, maybe you should not be smoking it - rather eating, drinking it as a tea, cooking with it, the options are almost endless.

Hey guys - just thought i'd join in - I am a an ex marijuana smoker (after 30 years) - stopping because of the appalling side effects.
I reckon the worst side effect from the weed was the paranoia that builds up over time, secondary to that is the apathy (which at least balances the paranoia because you can;t be arsed to do anything about it!) - thirdly the rest of the world is having a good time without you joining in because you are monged out

I have also drunk alcohol (mostly beer) for the last 30 years and now have a screwed liver - so I have to stop the drink (boo hoo - poor me!).

But what really f**ks me off is not having to stop the weed and beer it is sh*t heads who suggest that Coenzyme Q or some vitamins with "antioxidant" effects will stop liver damaga or cancer - they don't.

Just remember - stopping drinking, smoking weed and tobacco and not screwing around won't make you live longer - it will just feel like it.

A bit more info for thise who think that marijuana has no side effects on the liver -

"endogenous activation of the cannabinoid system plays a role in the pathogenesis of portal hypertension associated with cirrhosis via CB1-dependent splanchnic vasodilation. We recently demonstrated that the cannabinoid system is involved in experimental liver fibrogenesis."

"These observations, and our previous results showing that daily cannabis smoking is also an independent predictor of fibrosis progression, indicate that patients with untreated chronic hepatitis C should be advised to refrain from daily cannabis use." hivandhepatitis.com/2007icr/easl/docs/042407_c.html

Just want to point this out, when you say that marijuana has been shown in studies to not cause cancer etc etc. That is the marijuana itself when you smoke a joint, and inhale the smoke you are inhaling very harmful chemicals and new compounds are created. It is MUCH safer to ingest your pot using a vaporizor, cooking it etc so that nothing is actually BURNED. ANYTHING burned and inhaled is going to be hazordous to everyone. Not just cigarettes, not just pot, even a piece of grass from my front lawn would cause cancer to my throat eventually if i smoked it every god damned day.

About 5 weeks ago, I started experiencing faint feelings and generally feeling ill. I have been smoking weed for about 2 year (1 a day). I went to the doctor and after some blood tests they found abnormal liver function. Especially the enzym related to the heart ( so my doctor said). I immediately stopped smoking weed (experiencing quite bad withdrawls). 4 weeks later i had another liver function test and all came back normal. I believe that smoking weed had some kind of an effect on my liver even though my doctor advised me that this would not have an effect.

Anyone have any comments on this.
