I had the mirena inserted during a surgery in oct 2012, following issues after having my third child. i was told to expect lighter periods, slight spotting for 3 months while it settled, instead ive blead heavily for 2-3 wks at a time and had the same horribble discharge and spotting in between, only stops for afew hours for a couple of days in between. ive been put on meds tyo stop bleeding so bad twice but it always breaks through.

after finding this page im def having it removed. its nothing like it was made out to be and it seems more people have problems than not.

i also have found it has ruined my sex life and any time we have been able to have one i bleed during or after.

i was starting to feel quite down and that it was just me, am very greatful to have found this page and see other people stories.

I too have had the most stressful 4 years with the mirena. Through the recommendation of my gynocologist and a long history of hormone issues, irregular periods and emotional distress over it all, i had the mirena installed in 2010. Every promise that this IUD promised has yet to be realized. Instead, i now have bladder complications, amongst other complications. I have been prescribed additional hormone to help, and iron tablets as my blood is constantly low along with the constant headaches, abdominal, back, and leg pains. I feel unclean and irritated all the time because I am constantly spotting every day this awful dark brown, smelly "yuk", and my sex life is totally in shambles and I am about to lose my mind and husband. I am getting rid of this mirena nightmare in two days and i cant wait. I wonder if this company understands the number of lives it has ruined, and the additional expense persons have had to encounter as the result of the mirena. I am 45 and i am now considering a total hystorectomy after my 4 year ordeal with this thing.

Hi

I'm so happy to have found this page too. I had the mirena fitted nearly 3 years ago. After 18months I started spotting. I went to the doctors, had the usual test, taking a swap.I was never told at this point it could be the coil. I have been worried thinking something was wrong. I ve had a smear and ultra sound scan and still wasn't told it could be the Mirena.

I then see a very young doctor who told me it was due to the coil and put me on the pill for 6 months. This has worked !! Great I thought, no more brown like discharge, until today.

So now I think it's time to have it removed, I'm fed up with feeling dirty.

I have had the mirena for 2 years and 3 months. I get the sorest boob pain and cramps down my left leg about 5 days before my period and then my period lasts up to 10 days. It's been about a week and I have just had a full day of bleeding. I feel like I can't have sex or get intimate with my partner because I never know when I'll be spotting or not :( I am booking an apt to get it removed. It's different for everyone but spotting 3 weeks out of 4 isn't worth it

Hi Daisy here, I have the same kind of constand sporting as well, but I have only been on mirana for a month. How ever my sister" carol" who also has a very advanced case of endometriosis told me that she was spoting till she was in her second year. And now it happens once in a while..

I've had mirena twice. The first time I didn't have any problems. My period stopped it was perfect. The second time not so much! I had constant cramping and spotting. I told my Dr about the cramping because that was my main concern at the time. He prescribed an antibiotic and it stopped shortly after. I just went to see my Dr yesterday about other bc options and explained to him the spotting and discharge. He told me this should not be happening with mirena, and he said even though the cramping stopped I probably still have some type of infection caused by the mirena. He wrote another Rx for antibiotics and I started today. So hopefully this will work. I suggest seeing your Dr because this might be preventable. Plus anytime you have discharge with a foul odor there's more than likely an infection caused by bacteria.

I'm hating this, all the spotting and having bv every few months I rather have my cycle normally once a mo, I'm done with all these forms of bc except condoms don't like all the changes it's taking on my body, PERIOD can't wait to see u at least I'll kno when to expect ur appearance. Mirena IM DONE.

I am glad to read this to know I am not alone. I had the insertion in Oct 2013 and I have had the same constant spotting that will lead to what I think might be my period. I would prefer to go back to bleeding heavy for a week than having a constant spotting. I also have what looks to be tissue like my lining is shedding when I pee.

Me too and I am very relieved to read all of these posts. I have had pretty much constant spotting with a period here and there for the last year. I did go three months with no spotting late last year but then back to the light spotting. Sometimes it's a bright red and sometimes it's darker. I seem to be getting a period every other month or maybe even every month but it's not very different than my spotting. Very light with maybe one day ir twi dats that I could wear a tampon. But again sometimes difficult to differentiate between the light spotting. The first year with the Mirena was great with no period after the first month of spotting. Now I have to wear a panty liner every day. And the nasty brown discharge is awful and really glad to see I'm not alone with that either. I don't get that often but I do get it.I have my annual exam on May 1st and might just take this thing out. I will be 50 in August. I got it in October 2012 because my periods were out of control with having to change a super every half hour. First I went on the pill for one year then decided I didn't want all of the hormones so chose the mirena.

I got the mirena 1/26 it was very uncomfortable to get in actually painful I had cramps for about two days & spotting but then it was gone. I got my period normally it was very light compared to my normal very heavy (looking like a crime scene period) but I did notice I had it for two weeks. After the two weeks I noticed a very very foul odor I went to my GYN Immediately to find out I had Bacterial Vaginosis very common in women but more so due to the lengthy periods and having to have a pad on all the time.

It was gone for about two weeks then Came right back although it is very light it is very irritating I am on my 14th day now & since i got this thing put in have had sex only three times & for me that is bad. I am only on my second month but if my next month this does not fix I am seriously getting it removed & going back to my heavy menstraul cycle because this is HORRIBLE!!! I'd rather be on an Iron regimen the rest of my life than have to continue with this

I have my Mirena since October 2012 and I'm ready to have the thing taken out. I did fairly well the first year but have been basically spotting every day for the last year and I have that nasty brownish spotting as well as the bright red. I am always feeling bloated and full. I have my annual appt on May 1st and am going to ask for it to be removed (which I've asked for twice but my doctor always says to give it more time). I've had two ultrasounds in the last year and both showed benign ovarian cycs which they told me is common with Mirena and nothing to be concerned with. Well I'm sick and tired of this IUD. I don't feel clean and it's definitely impacting our sex life.

I have had the exact same experience. Spotting all the time and bleeding after sex. It has had a completely damaging impact on my sexlife and love life. My new bed who I love dearly cannot have sex without fear of bleeding.
