I've read that the light bleeding during or after sex is caused by the thinning of the uterine lining. Since the Mirena IUD works by thinning the uterine lining sometimes it can become so thin that it can shed during sex due to the friction/irritation . Hope this helped!
If you feel the plastic bit poking you, you may want to advise your partner to check with their obgyn. If im not mistaken, you shouldnt be able to feel anything but the strings which feel like fishing line.
