I've only just got my IUD inserted about 3-4 weeks ago. It has given me awful cramps and the past 4/5 times my boyfriend has had to stop intercourse because he says the pain is so bad on his penis. I want to have sex with my boyfriend all the time and it just feel like this is ruining our sex life - after reaidng all these comments i want to get it removed, however will they remove it at my 6 week checkup? Is it too soon? I know some people say give it a few months but I literally could not go that long without having intercourse with my boyfriend! Help!

This is so difficult, but I'm going to talk about it. I had the Mirena in for a year, and during that yesr I had horrible abdominal pain (stabbing- like pain to one side) to the point of tears and cramping would ensue after. After a year I took it out and the pain CONTINUED during sex after the Mirena was removed. That was 4 years ago. I've since met and married my husband who isn't significantly "larger" than my previous partner. About 1/3 of the time we have to stop having sex because I feel that same stabbing pain. I've been told by countless doctors to figure out what positions cause more or less pain and to avoid those positions. I'm not satisfied with that. I want to know if anyone else has had the pain continue after removal of their Mirena?

Wow I am finding all of this very interesting. I have had the Mirena IUD for 2 years now and my boyfriend does complain of being able to feel the strings now and then. I find that the more forplay I get the less he feel the strings and sex doesn't hurt as much because the uterin wall is softer. However, some times even after "warming up" to it, sex still hurts. JUst last night we were fooling around and he didn't even get all the way inside when I started feeling pressure and pain. It seams to be getting worse the longer I have it in. I do bleed a little after sex too (a watery pink bleeding). All this talk of becomeing unfertal because of complications is starting to scare the sh*t out of me. I'm only in my early 20's and I don't have kids yet but definatly want to one day. I'm not sure if I should contact my doctor or not.

It's f""" frustrating. The IUD is a castrating device. Once i got bruises on my penis gland. Why MIRENA doesn't manufacture soft strings that don't poke our penis?

I've only had my iud for two months now but last weekend I was doubled over in pain. Had the iud checked and they said it is fine. Pain went away for a few days but it feels like it's creeping back now, especially the last two days, I have been having pain in my lower abdomen, during sex. Especially when it is more rough and faster. I'm wondering if the pain you were having improved or got worse? It sounds similar to me. Also my husband has a large le is and he's never felt pain from the strings.

I just read up on your post. I have vaginally delivered 2 children, I also get pain on my left lower side during intercourse and I have light bleeding for about 3-7 days afterwards. I called my Dr today and was told this isn't normal.

I also have one. I got it in October 2011. My left leg went numb the next day so I went to the doctors. The pain comes and goes. But having sex is so painful sometimes I don't know why I'm doing it! I actually had to go to the emergency once because the pain was so bad I couldn't move. Seriously I couldn't even roll out of the bed! I have had five ultrasounds and they all say the it looks normal and the IUD is still in its right place. The doctor doesn't know why it hurts me, he actually suggested that I may have IBS, which I don't have any symptoms for expect pain on the left side of my lower stomach. I was not satisfied with this answer so I went to naturopath doctor last week and I didn't tell her right away that I had an IUD just that I'd like to get my IBS under control. She said you don't have the IBS symptoms then I stated I had the IUD. She made sure that I realized that she is not a medical doctor but she thinks my pain is all related to the IUD. It just seems odd that my pain only started after I got this IUD in. And it's also not natural for a women body to have a period, it's part of nature. I'm going to get mine removed as soon as possible! My husband was to chicken to get sniped as well. However after seeing me in so much pain lately he's decided to get it done as we don't want anymore children. I hope this helps you and I'll let you know if my pain goes away after I get it removed. Good luck to you. No one should have to live with body pain.
