Mirena IUD Side Effects

I got the Mirena in July of 07 and haven't had any major problems. I have experienced the very light spotting here and there. I have also had sudden discharge but with a strange odor. I called my doctor and he told me that was normal but I feel like other people can smell me and it makes me feel dirty. Can anyone relate to this? Please help

i got mirena in feb.2008 and i thought it was great but now just last month i didn't get my period at and have been having a lot of mood swings and just and now i am so frustrated i am getting it taking out i cant do this anymore my boyfriend has been getting sick of me crying and than being like i dont know why and i have a 20 month old and she needs me to be there for her

I got my IUD put in in may of this year and ive had a total of 10 days without spotting. it is driving me crazy. i am about to call my doctor and have it removed. i cant do it any more. ive had 2 bacterial infection and severe memory loss since then. i need to get this thing out right now.

I have to say I am relieved to hear that I am not alone with the horrible side effects I have experienced with have this IUD. Anyone who has not experienced the debilitating side effects, lucky you. I finally realized that my fatigue, depression, extreme mood swings were being caused by the IUD, not a normal aging process, and had it removed just a week ago. Side effects are slowly diminishing thank God, I thought I was going crazy! I have to say this IUD is not for everyone!

I have had the Mirena for 20 months now, I too have had hear palpitations, mood swings, bacterial vaginosis, urinary tract issues due to the vaginosis, and worst or all, HAIR LOSS on my head. At 32 years old this alone is majorly devistating. I just found some info on the internet reguarding IUD's and hairloss. I am making an appt for immediate removal of this thing. I had a luscious head of hair THICK> and now i can see my scalp in several spots. I just want to cry.

I have had the Mirena IUD since March, 2006. Just as my Dr told me, I experienced mild side effects for up to 6 months. Mostly the constant spotting and cramping. Other than that, I was pleased with it. I came across this post only because I was looking for information on how you can tell if you were pregnant with the IUD, after a close friend just had this happen to her. (For the last 3 years, I frequently go without having a period at all, so it kinda made me nervous.) Now, after reading thru everyone's posts, I realize that I am in fact NOT crazy! The chest pains, pelvic pain, anxiety, extreme fatigue, weight problems, discharge, awful mood swings, horrible-horrible acne on my face and back, the bloating, zero sex-drive, (pretty much feel like a walking talking zombie!) could very well be caused by my IUD! I can think back atleast 2 years ago that these "effects" were present, and it seems that they have only gotten worse and more apparent over time, and are still escalating. The past couple of months I have been racking my brain trying to figure out what was wrong with me! I am calling my Dr today to have it taken out! Which also makes me nervous, I've had a few close friends recently have theirs out and had some serious challenges with that. And now hearing something about the Mirena Crash?! Anyone have any info, or know where I can go to learn more about that? Thanks to everyone for sharing, hopefully we can all be "normal" again very soon!

I had the iud put in 3-4 months ago. I have had nothing but problems. I got the iud to avoid a hysterectomy because I have adenomyosis with extreme pain and bleeding. 3 weeks after the iud was put in I developed a large cyst on my rt ovary 9cm/8cm/6cm. Also I have not stopped bleeding since it was put in 3 months ago. I have had constant headaches and panic attacks also. I had a problem with panic attacks in my teen years but it had been over a decade since I had an attack. After the iud I started getting them non-stop. On top of all of this my fibrocystic breast disease which I also hadn't had a problem with in over a decade, came back with a vengence. 8 lumps and a mammogram later i am tired of this stupid thing. Ready for it to come out and be done with it already. I would not recommend getting the mirena iud unless you have no pre-existing conditions and are educated on the possible side-effects.

I am 28 years old and have had the Mirena for over 4 years now. It has been great. But I think it is causing me to have severe headaches at least once a month. I've noticed that I always have spotting after the headache begins. I think maybe the IUD is old and needs replacing. I don't want it replaced because I fear the headaches may return. Right now I've had the same headache for about a week and I feel like gouging my eyes out. I have light sensitivity, nausea, and my eyes can't seem to focus. I think I'll try having it removed before I try going in for an MRI because if the MRI comes out normal, I don't want to be pumped up on migraine meds that don't work. I hate taking medications and don't plan to start anytime soon.

I have hair loss and Acne and I can't sleep very well. After reading this site...now I know I'm not crazy. I have a bleeding disorder and my doctor will not let me use other birth control pill. She said Mirena IUD is my best option. Can anybody help me out if you have any other sugestions?

:$ I have had my iud out for 10 days now, 10 days of pure hell! heavy bleeding, severe headaches to the point where i vomit! heart papations, hot flashes, anxiety, depression, nervousness, dizzy, leg cramps, stomach cramps, no energy or drive to even get out of bed! Why??? and how long is this going to last? we would like to concieve another child but i can't do anything feeling like this!!! :'(

Bleeding that lasts longer than 2 weeks put women at risk of having a stroke.

I had the Mirena IUD inserted 3 weeks ago and I am still experienceing spotting and heavy cramping. Painful at times - and I have never experienced painful cramping on or off the pill. How long will this last??? It hurts. Seems to hurt more the day after sex...if that makes any sense. The spotting I have read over and over is normal, but inconvenient. The cramping concerns me. Why do I feel like this? Other than that I have no other symptoms. Maybe a little acne - but I thought it was just a new season and time to change my makeup.
Bad Cramping anyone? Feeld like my uterus is going to fall out!!!

I too had the Mirena inserted about 3 weeks ago. The past several days I have been getting craps much like labor pains, which i never experienced on the pill. How long can I expect this to last? The OTC pain relievers are barely touching it!!!

I am 29 was diagnosed with breast cancer at 25 had both my breast removed at the age of 26 and 27. During the time my period was really heavy and the doctors didn't know what to do since I couldn't be placed on a birth control so they were thinking about a hysterectomy. I wasn't too sure about that so another doc told me about the mircle birth control Mirena, what a joke. I had the Mirena placed in me in March 2009, I weighed 129. I asked about the side effects, and the docs said I might have a little spotting and cramps at first but they will subside. At the end of March I retired from the military early. My biggest concern with the IUD was weight gain, I've been placed on Seroquel before and I had a big weight gain from that and I took myself off of that so I could shed the weight. The doc told me the IUD doesn't cause weight gain and I will actually benefit from it because it had positive attributes towards dealing with my cancer. She had me excited. Well today is 23 Nov 09/12:07am, I've gained over 50pds with this thing, I went from a size 3/4 to a 16 it seems over night, I've been working with a personal trainer for about 3mths now and I believe he thinks I am pigging out because I am not losing a thing, one day I can weigh 165 the next day the scale says I am 179. I have 3 kids, the most I've ever weighed during my pregnancy was 161 and of course I shed all the extra weight by 4mths after each pregnancy. I've been thinking about trying that HCG diet but I am not about to inject myself everyday. I've never had an acne problem, except for when I was pregnant with my first child, now my face looks like one of those cheap microwave pepperoni pizzas, my kids are like mommy what's wrong with your face. The headaches are getting worse, I believe it's from the lack of sleep, I usually get about 3hrs now to no sleep at all. I have crazy night sweats, I don't know what pre-menopause feels like but I believe it feels like this. I am paranoid all the time, I cry about the littlest things, I tell my husband I feel like I am pregnant all over again (and that's not possible my husband had a vasectomy 4yrs ago) and he is a RN and he told me 3mths ago it was because of the IUD and I brushed him off and told him what my doc said, now I feel like a fool. I've been on other birth controls before and never had these feelings before. I was on one one birth control that I was allergic too that made me look like I had the chicken pox, made me faint and have a terrible fever, and the docs didn't believe that birth control could have side affects like that. I was diagnosed with all kinds of diseases before they realize it was the birth control. I am going to the docs tomorrow and hopefully they will take this thing out of me, I am so happy to have found other people who experience the same things that I am experiencing and to know I am not going crazy. I thought I had ADHD for a moment, I can't focus and do the basic things I normally do this is really depressing

Hi My name is Jeannie I had masrina put in me on march 13, 2008 and it was fine until about the bigining of 2009 when i noticed that my right side of my stomach and also finding out i had food poisoning the same time i found brousing on my stomach by my belly button and it was yellow so my husband and i thought i might have fallen down but i never did then 2 days later i had red brusing on the same area then i talked to my doctor and they ordered me to get an ultrasound done in march and then i had it done then the nurse said the doctor will get the results in on thursday and see you on tuesday and found out i had an ovarian cist on my right side but i will tell you this they dont do nothing about it they wait until they break on there own but you have to suffer from the pain and i just found out i have cist on both of my overys and they both hurt im to a point that im going to see about getting a hestorectomy or have the urterus lining burnt.
