my son has had mucus and hair like strands of blood in his stools since 24 hours after having his 1st dose of roto vac. my other 2 didn't get an oral roto vac.-- i was also not aware of how new it was or that the CDC says it is totally up to the parent and they must request this vac. ---our doc just said these are the 2 month shots with 1 oral--we have a great doc but they all need to tell us more about the vacs that are new and side effects that are being reported--our doc did fill out the report for side effects from a vac-- have yours do the same-- none of will know the side effects of these things if the docs don't formally report them on our behalf

Let me start off prior to this 2 month appointment he was exclusively breastfed and I was on no sort of diet and ate from all food groups. He was a very good baby and not colicky and was gaining weight and very health. A7

I became very worried and the dr. advised me to either stop breastfeeding (big NO) or to go on an dairy free diet.
I did. I went on it for 2 weeks dairy free with no luck and still bloody stools. Then his pediatrician recommended I tried to eliminate dairy as well as soy eggs wheat nuts. I did even more than that and eliminated the top 8 allergic food and was EXTREMELY careful not to let any whey products or anything else slip in. For another 2 1/2 weeks i stayed on this diet with no luck. I also was extremely malnourished and lost over 20 lbs in a month.
I returned to the same dr.( who never once mentioned it could been related to the stomach flu rotavirus vaccine) with no luckand still having the colicky episodes with blood in stools. She recommended a pediatric gastroenterlogists. He was pretty certain it wasn't a allergy given the fact that my son had been fine prior to the 2 months but with no mention to the vaccine, as I was naive and did not realize it until now that the rotavirus vaccine could of been and is very likely the cause of so much heartache. I wanted to do allergy testing and did to my poor now 3 month old. And had no positive results for any allergies. He also had no other signs of allergies, no rashes and was growing and gain weight. a7
The gastroenterologist said the ONLY other thing that could cause the blood would be a anal fissure. Which was require an upper g.i. scope and to put my baby under anesthetic. I decided not to do that and to just wait it out and the specialist said to give it more time to maybe get whatever I was eating that could of caused the blood out of my system.
I was extremely careful on what I ate and ate next to nothing besides fruits meat and rice. I lost ALOT of weight and at 4 months postpartum my hair was falling all out. And not the normal shedding post baby, this was extreme and I know due to my vitamin deficiency.
At about 4 months the blood was pretty much gone and I just related it to the cows milk eliminated from diet.
He is now 10 months and still breastfed. Unfortunately I am just now realizing that I should start introducing milk back into my diet ever since my phobia of cow products arose from this horrible episode.
I have major discontent with the pediatricians that to do even want to consider that vaccines (which actually have small amounts of the VIRUS) can cause severe reactions. They under report the reaction to the vaccine control center and I believe it all a conspiracy for them to keep making money from giving all the "necessary" vaccines.
I am also extremely upset that the now RECALLED Rotavirus vaccine that could of had traces of h1n1 was allowed to be given to so many parents without giving more notice of potential, even if rare, side effects.

Unbelievable!! I can't believe I haven't seen this thread before! My daughter is now 5 1/2 months and has always been exclusively breastfed. We have been dealing with green, slimy, runny, mucusy stools with traces of blood in it since she was 2 months...mind you, it started just days after her 2 month Rotavirus vaccine. I was told by the Dr. that is it a food intolerance from something she is getting from my breast milk and to cut out dairy and soy. No problem I did it immediately. Knowing it takes up to 8 weeks for dairy to get out of both of our systems I didn't fret until her 4 month appt...more Rotavirus vaccine and still traces of blood in her stool. Now I was to cut out eggs, peanuts, shellfish and corn on top of dairy and soy. I did LOTS of research on the issue and found some concerns that the green bloody mucusy stool is linked with the Rotavirus vaccine. I mentioned this to the Dr and he said it was just a coincidence, that most intolerance and allergies start at 2 months! So, I thought OK, he's the Dr maybe he is right so I cut out all of the allergens mentioned above paying very close attention to EVERYTHING I put in my mouth. The Dr also tested her blood for reaction to the top 8 food allergens and all came back negative.
My baby is healthy, in the 60% for her weight and is very happy and in no pain. So the Dr. says not to worry about it and she will likely grow out of her intolerance by 1 year. I have given up on taking her to the Dr. for this issue. They give no new insight on the matter and tell me things I already know...I can see small bits of blood from time to time and I know she is healthy. HOWEVER, I have lost 20 lbs and am very tired of this diet. Because we are still dealing with the green, runny, mucusy stools I have now resolved to also cut out gluten. I have a similar issue with my son following his two month vaccinations. He had DTaP (Daptacel I think), HIB (PedvaxHIB), and PC (Prevnar 13) all at the same time. He didn't get the Rotavirus vaccination. This was his first time being vaccinated. The next morning his stool was green and streaked with bright red blood. He continued to have green stools for about three months during which time I decided to go on an elimination diet (Dr. Sears elimination diet) and start probiotics for both of us. This seemed to help somewhat but his stools have never gone back to the yellow seeded appearance pre-vaccination and he still has the occasional green and/or bloody stool. I am still on quite a restrictive diet (no dairy, egg, wheat, corn, nuts, soy, fish) and continue to EBF. We tried him on solids about a month ago but this caused green stools so we had to stop. He had the same HIB and PC vaccinations at four months but not the DTaP because the ingredients list the growth media to be modified by Casamino Acids, which is from the milk protein casein. He has not had any vaccinations since then but is due back at the doctor's office for more vaccinations later this month. I don't know what to do.
I am concerned my son will continue to have food allergies indefinitely and am concerned how he will react to future vaccinations. A lot of vaccinations are mandatory in our state (NC) with only religious exemption.

My 3 1/2 month old is having the same issue, she's my first baby so I was very worried. She is bottle fed and hasn't had any stomach or poop issues till now. She's still drinking her normal amount, I've been getting a few more oz in her because I don't want her to become dehydrated. I've brought her to the Dr. twice now, as the diarrhea has been going on for 8 days, but he says its likely just a virus that has to run its course. She now has a diaper rash, poor baby, but is still as happy as can be. She's also just recently started to teeth - chewing on anything and everything she can get her hands on. Maybe that has something to do with it too. She doesn't seem to be bothered by it, which is a good thing, but I worry as every mother does. Thanks for sharing your stories, I feel much more at ease.
Mucous in Poooos of 10 mnth old - my son for the past week has had green runny poops, with a strange odour; im literally having to check each time he is farting as it could be a poop. Definate nappy rash visable, using rash creams to help with this, he is also teething & dribbing alot. It doesnt seem to bother him, other than the nappy rash, he is fine. He is bottle fed & on solids. Last nite he developed a slight temperature which i am treating with baby panadol. this is helping. I am putting this down to teething. I am sure the poop is not normal but was thinking if was unsettling for him, i would take him to the drs, as they would prob tell me it was a virus & it will run its course. Now there is a temperature in the mix, i would like some peice of mind that its nothing serious.

Well, I don't know what to say because some of these symptoms I noticed in my 5 weeks old son. He is breastfed only.
He's already pooped maybe 3-4 times with mucus in last few days (I haven't seen any blood in it) so he has the problem before getting RV vaccine. Now we're just trying to figure out if this is something to worry about because it's our first baby and everything is new for us. I guess we're gonna have to go to the doctor if nothing change.

My daughter started having loose stools from the second day after her 2nd month immunication which included Rotavirus and IPV. Prior to this immunization she had always passed stools of toothpaste consistency every 3 or 4 days. Its been almost 2 weeks now since her 2nd immunization, diarrhea reduced after day 6 but recurred after day 8. Today on day 12 after her immunization, we saw traces of blood and the stools was green and mucousy. We are really concerned what it is all about. The doctor said today that it could be due to allergic reaction to milk products that I her mother may be taking, but why should she become allergic after the vaccination. So we are yet to come to a conclusion what caused this. We are really concerned.

I am having a similar experience right now. After my son had his 4 month immunizations, we came home and that night he had a fever of 102 and he had black diarrhea for three days. I contacted the doctor and we took him to her office and she said it was a reaction to the Rotavirus vaccine. She also tested the stool and found blood in it but she sent us home. His black diarrhea continued so I ended up taking him to the ER a few days later and they took an x-ray, a culture and bloodwork. The only thing they could tell me was that he had a slightly higher white blood cell count and his stool tested positive for blood again, but they sent us home with nothing. His dark greenish to black, mucousy diarrhea continued for almost two weeks so I took him to his doctor again and she is now setting us up for an appointment with a gastrointestinal specialist. What am I suppose to be doing? I keep wondering if I am doing something wrong and praying that my baby is alright. I don't get why they keep sending us home with nothing when they find blood in his stools. I just don't understand it. HELP! I don't know what to do.
