im in exactly the same boat Hun! i had 3 anal skin tags removed 7 days ago under general anaesthetic. Everything was ok until 6 hours after surgery when i realised i was swollen as hell and i darent even look at what was going on down there! It took me till evening of day 2 to manage a BM and by God it was the worst pain I've ever ever experienced. I cried. i even thought i was going to be sick and pass out. after i managed to go i was in pain for hours. I drank lots of water and had high fiber supergreens drink each day since surgery, however i think i was constipated due to fasting for my surgery and being dehydrated also. Anyway i went to my GP on day 3 in pain. She gave me topical ointments for swelling and to provide a painkilling effect. She said i had caused extra trauma due to being constipated. The ointments have helped reduce some swelling but the pain is coming and going mostly after a BM but nothing like the first one. Im mostly concerned as when I've taken a look i have two bulging lumps where the tags have been cut away. Im like most of you...just want to know if this is swelling and will it go away and also how long will it take to heal? I'm hoping that once my stitches dissolve it will heal quicker.

I know it's been a long time since you posted but I just had to say that yes, the way you described the pain is the same for me. I had THD hemorrhoid removal surgery and was told it would be minimally invasive and therefore not as painful but I have been in EXCRUCIATING pain for 5 days. So I called my doctor and he said the reason I'm having more pain than most do is that he removed a few skin tags (which I had told him I wanted him to do), and that there are a lot of nerve endings in them.
Sometimes I'll just yelp out of nowhere and my boyfriend shouts, "WHAT'S WRONG" and I've explained to him that it's like a shooting sharp itch that pulses through my anus. It's not the kind of itch you want to scratch but like a sharp intense prickling feeling.

If you receive this message I'd love to know: How are you feeling now? How long did it take until you felt back to normal? Was it worth it?

Hi I am 4 weeks post surgery after having 1 prolapsed old hem skin tag removed 5 cm and 2 external. I would strongly advise against having this surgery if you have large skin tags!. The 2 smaller external skin tags would have been a breeze but the pain from the large skin tag was extremely painful and 4 weeks in I am still having pain and muscle spasms in this area. I feel it could be months before you do not feel pain and discomfort in the anus area, you just no it's there no matter what like an annoying niggle!. I was incapable of functioning normal for over two weeks! And when you have children this is challenging

Please tell me you have gotten better! I had 3 skin tags removed 3 weeks ago. They never hurt before the surgery they were just a nuisance. Now I am in a lot of pain, it looks way worse than before with more lumps/skin tags? and what may be an issue external roid! Have an appointment with doc in 1 week. Someone please tell me something positive. Anyone have this procedure done 1 year ago? Do things improve or am I looking at multiple additional procedures?? Thanks..

Hello everyone!

So I'm a female who had hemorrhoids and was left with an unsightly anal tag afterward. Too much sitting down on the toilet trying to pass out a constipation poop for hours at a time. Not recommended! Lol

Anyway, I didn't have any medical problems but it sure didn't look pretty down there anymore. Sometimes tried to stick the little tag back in but it was too outside.

I was really really worried about the recovery and if it'd even look better afterward. I've tried having it removed once before and absolutely nothing looked like it had changed. I don't think they knew I wanted it to look cosmetically better and just was like "you ain't got the roids!".

Years later, I went to a doctor that specialized in the butt stuff and was numbed in the butt, fully awake, they were lasering it off and I could smell burning lol the banding wasn't an option for me cuz it was too outside and the tag would return. Laser was more expensive but worth it in my opinion. It's always the doctor that is the most important no matter what operation!

So I get it done and it Stung. Hurt! I had a light saber to my Butt! The sting of the numbing needle also kina hurt. I bled the most for 4 days or so. Had to frequently change my bloody gauze. After that, just some spotting. It wasn't in tooooo much pain cuz I only had to remove 1. I heard that the more you remove, the longer the recovery and the more pain. Also, they should prescribe you some pain killers. I got some really good ones. Barely noticed the pain unless I missed my medicine.

Needle Pain: 4/10 and for about 2 seconds
Laser Pain: 7.5/10 on and off for 10 seconds. I told them when it was too much pain and they shot me with more numbing stuff.
Recovery Pain: a dull 2/10

Remember! Every person's experience is different! I'm glad I did mine :D

Can't have sex for a month tho ...

Sweela, were you able to avoid having a new tag form? My surgeon warned me that a new (smalled) tag usually forms after removal...

I had two tags removed. The larger one left scar tissue almost the same size as the original skin tag. The tag removal itself wasn't painful. But I went in today and he removed the scar tissue and it hurts! I'm hoping the swelling will go down and the scar tissue won't return.

they don't go away on their own. that's just not how it works!

Hi there, I had 2 large skin tags removed under general anaesthetic. I got them during pregnancy and was too embarrassed and scared to do anything for 5 years! I wish I had done it sooner. Now everything is perfect and even I had IBS type symptoms which have gone, which must have been related to internal mucosal polyp which was also removed at the same time. Yes the surgery was full on, I was very very scared before hand so this is why I want to share my advice with you. Recovery took about 8 days to feel completely back to normal. But wouldn't hesitate to do it again. The benefits far outweigh the fear. It was very painful every time I wanted to go to the loo basically, and I got a bit constipated which didn't help then took too much laxative which increased the frequency of going to the loo. Painkillers blocked me up and made me really drowsy so i didn't take them for long. I had to really "breathe" through every movement. You can't get away from the pain when going to the toilet, it's the reality. The general anaesthetic seemed to really sedate me for days too, but be strong, face your fears, face the recovery and you won't regret it. Any questions please don't hesitate to ask. I know it's a cliché, but no pain no gain. I did it, and soooo proud of myself, I conquered my fears and now everyday I reap the benefit. I'm so glad I did it.
