My lip is NUMB after a punch in a face.

Hi Guys,

I had a similar issue recently. I accidentally bit through my lip after getting punched in the face.

The lip above the cut has remained numb days after the incident. Spoke to my doctor today who say the sensation will come back but it will take a long time (it could take a year or two in fact) as nerves grow back very slowly. He said no need to worry but worth getting checked out.

Obviously its not painful but quite distracting!

it could or not..it depends..i have had the same problem...numbness still presents....for 3 years now !

 

i think in some cases it's permament nerve damage :(

waht do you mean by saying "numbness"

completly loss of feeling in the area ?   or dulled feeling

for example i have about 80% feeling in lip... it's strange sensation...annoying 

 

i don't want to have numb lip :(

Exact same injury but left side and it was front on.. numbness is doing my head in feels like I've got a fat lip but its not really. My nose isn't swollen but I keep coughing up blood which is fun. Did anyone that went to the doctor actually get treatment? And did the sensation come back at all?

i have new information about numbness on cheek area. There is infraorbital nerve going through bone. Maxillary and Zygoma bone.   Numbness on the cheek area is a common symptom as the result of the zygomatic fracture and eventually worse problem  - maxillary fracture. After trauma the fracture could occour and bones move and compress the nerve. If the compression of that nerve is severe or long then permanent damage could happen.

I have overlooked zygomatic fracture and i know it after 4 years. The doc saw it. I'm going to do CT of face bones and ENG of the nerve. Now i see i have very little flattened face on the one side.. there is about 2mm less of "cheek bone" than originally. :) how could I overlooked that ? "/  Delayed repair of zygomatic/maxillary fracture is very difficoult or impossible :/

I have similar symptoms to those described above, though not as severe.  I had a collision while playing sports.  The main point of impact, I think, was my left cheekbone.  I have a bruise there.  But the teeth nearby are numb (upper left incisors -> molars).  The accident occurred approximately seven hours ago.  I'm just hoping my teeth aren't dying/about to fall out.

Since there don't seem to be many answers to this thread, I'll be sure to come back and let people know what happens.

same thing happen to me but I just don't know what happened... blacked out at a bar.  black eye etc... may have been roofied...  anywho..  my lip has been numb for about 2 weeks and the top right corner of my lip is still numb.  xrays came back negative... my dr. said to give it another 2 weeks or so as I may have some swelling still on my lip even though it does not look it.  tissue damage..  H said if it doesn't get dramatically better in 2 more weeks that he will send me to a Neuro Specialist.  He also said I could go see one sooner if it annoys me that much so I will wait a little longer. feels like a bubble on the inside of my lip.  Maybe like a blood blister causing it.. ?? also just getting over a Canker on the inside as well...   Going to give it a little more time and see what happens..  I will post an update in a week..

I feel the same. I was assaulted by my ex. He hit me several times in the head. Months later I get this numbness on my lip like coming from nowhere. The only thing I can relate it to is this because I eat very healthy and take natural supplements.

My fiance decided to punch me in the face repeatedly 3 days ago. My eye and some bruising to face.. Lip busted and its numb.  So I have the same question.  Its too late for me to get stitches in my lip they say, but I want the feeling back in my face.  I cant even drink out of a bottle without the liquid dripping down my cheek.  HELP

I had surgery on my stomach 3 days ago and somehow I awoke with a large bottom lip that is numb and has teeth marks in the inside. Its still numb and tingly and sore inside.

I hope you are not with him anymore. Once they start they don't stop. Leave!

I was punched on the way out of a bar 2 weeks ago and I still have no feeling. It tingles sometimes but I haven't really gotten feelings back. You think it would be a big deal but not feeling a huge part of my face is extremely scary sometimes. I just want it to come back. I'm innocent!

Ive had it for one year now. My lip and teeth are still numb like i just got a shot of novacain

I got mugged about 6 months ago and sufferred about 5 blows couple to cheek, eye socket, ear, head. Press charges, trash like that needs their comuppance. U can get your guy, mine got away. It's intolerable and very serious. Permanent damage could have happened, brain, hearing, eyesight, teeth, broken nose. Permanent nerve damage. I still can't feel the upp left lip 6 montgs later n i don't think it's coming back. The world doesn't become a better place if goid people like us sit on our butts and do nothing about the people trying to destroy it.

sh*t i did to yesterday I got kicked in the eye n half of my face is numb and I want it to go away
