I've had leg numbness ever since I've been on my menstrul cycle. I've visisted two doctors and they had never heard of this before so one had me go in for an ultra sound and CAT scan. Nothing came up. The only expanation the doctor could give me is that the uterus (mine is inverted) swells during that time of the month and presses the nerves so much that it will cut off some of the circulation to the legs and lower back. Ibuprofen was suggested to take during these times. Works, but only lasts 5-6 hours. Heat pads help a lot. Sometimes I'd even wear it to work! It just gets so bad that I can't even walk to my car to get to work & end up taking the day off! This only happens 3-4 times a year. Mostly during the winter months.

I'm also wondering if anyone else who has this problem is very sensitive to caffiene or sugar. I can't eat much of anything that is full of sugar; drinks or food. Connection?

I have adenomyosis too and in the last 3 months have had sharp pain in the back of my left calf as if I ran a marathon or someone kicked me with a booth. I can feel that there is a tread of sensitivity all the way to my left ovary.  I assume that it is differed pain from the adenomyosis. Before the periods were desastrous with pain, now it's in the calf muscle...what's up with that?
Also, I am 47 and my periods are very hard, have been for several years, the fatigue is crushing and is a serious handicap. It's better then before when I was lucky to have 4 good days a month but still 10-14 days a month right now are down for the count. Anyone else with similar femal drama?

Hello ! I haven't started my periods yet, but this can all be linked to your periods (as I have read in other articles) I think I'am very close and that's why I get the bad in between legs/back pains. If you have already started then it could be linked to the same reason, and yes it doesn't help with everyday activities, and it (in my circumstance) is quite a sharp sudden pain but it only lasts about 2-3mins. Hope this helps x

I've had this problem ever since I started college (6 years ago). Before 6 years ago I would go through a super plus tampon EVERY hour & the only problem I had was leg numbness. No other effects, which concerned the doctors. The doctors couldn't find anything wrong with me after doing a Pap Smear & Cat Scan (I do have an inverted uterus). Doctor suggested taking pain medication whenever I was in pain. Go figure. I absolutely despise taking pills if I can avoid it.

I came up with a solution that cured up all my aches & pains within half a hour, which I had never experienced before so quickly! I ate a banana, ate a chewable vitamin C tablet (500 mg), took a Calcium-Magnesium with Vitamin D complex vitamin, swallowed a Lysine (500 mg), and Omega-3 Fish Oil (1000 mg). Not sure which of these natural vitamins/minerals helps the most, but I take all of them everyday when it's that time of the month. I also load up on A LOT of fruit during this time. No more hot water bottle & laying down all day! I can live & walk without falling over from weakness.

This is the only solution I have found to work that is natural. My back no longer aches, I can walk, I can concentrate, I have no abdominal pain, and it's an easy solution. I'm not a doctor, but I pass on what knowledge I do know so I may help others.

Periods or Menstrual cycle are definitely demanding physiological stress on body though natural, good diet is an important requisite besides supplementation with multivitamins n multiminerals is needed to compensate for the loss of blood that is causing symptoms like weakness. Feeling of numbness n pain is partly due to hormonal imbalance n partly due to psychological strain u take so do not get anxious n take good food n rest n enjoy mensus..

Yes, I have experienced this, especially in the early years of my period. Turned out I have endometriosis. Treatment helped considerably but I also took calcium with magnesium supplements throughout the month, not just during my period, to ease leg & menstrual pain. A heating pad or hot water bottle on the leg & stretches help. Eating plenty of fruit, bananas especially, helps the pain. Avoiding stimulants like caffeine will cut down on cramps & agitation. Having a healthy diet all throughout the month is essential to keeping your body strong during your cycle, especially if you have endo or a related condition.

Hello babyak, I have the same problem. I can hardly stand for the first couple of days of my period and am so bloated it's hard to wear my clothes. I'm tired and lethargic and emotional to the extreme!

I realised a while back (maybe 3 years back) that if i avoid caffiene completely, my cramps tend to be less delibitating. Like they still hurt, but not to the point where i can't do anything. This means avoiding coffee, tea, guarana laced drinks etc. Upon a friend's persuasion, i drank coffee a couple times this month, and boy my cramps were over the top bad.

I'm not so sure about sugar, though. All these sensitivities probably vary from individual to individual. Good luck with your periods!

Only Tylenol? When my cousin was pregnant they gave her a pain pill of some sort (Had to have been stronger than Tylenol she was quite lazy and happy)

I also have the same symptoms as yourself. I had a tubal ligation 8 yrs ago and over the years my symptoms have worsened, they are especially bad during the menstrual period. Its come to the point, I cant even walk down the stairs as my thighs muscle movement aches to much. I have Back pain as if in the kidneys and stabbing pains across my lower tummy area,( im guessing this is my fallopian tubes). I have not been diagnosed as I keep getting sent away with a diagnosis of PMT. Could you please give me some advice. Thankyou so much :) Mella
