My doctor looked at my knee super quickly and almost nonchalantly and said, "It's not your knee. It's your back." Basically he said there was nothing I could do about it. :-/

I've had bad carpal tunnel on my left hand for years and just recently flared back up. After having a bad injury on my left hand causing permanent median Nerve damage the left side of my knee about 4 inches in diameter stays numb. There is no pain or tingling. And the knee now goes out .
I believe it's a nerve connected to the Median Nerve. Google a Scamatic .

Wow a lot of us with the same issue. It started in my right knee and now it's in the left as well, a burning tearing sensation is the best way to describe it

I have your exact symptoms, same leg and area, did you ever find out the reason?

I was told it was caused by a pinched nerve in my back. The funny thing is I have not had any back pain whatsoever. I have had back problems in the past though, probably about two years ago.

You may want to have a PT examine the movement of your fibular head. Sometimes the fibular head subluxes or is lacking enough mobility on twisting needed between the tibia and fibula on ankle movements. The peroneal nerve is also involved in the fibular head, so this might account for the numbness and burning sensations. Just a thought! Manipulation of the head of the fibula might help if this is your problem.

I woke up this morning with pain and numbness in my left knee. Like you I often sit in a kind of half lotus yoga position so I think that I've just pulled or pushed something out of place.

I am in the exact same situation. I had bursitis during Wrestling season. My right knee was swollen very large and very painful to hit/touch. After the swelling went away it was numb and has still been numb for the past 6 months

Hello, did you find out what this happened to be?

Did you end up getting your checkup? What did it end up being? This is exactly what I have. Sharp pain on the side of my left knee when kneeling or picking up my kids, going on for 3-6 months or so, then increasingly noticeable numbness just a couple of inches to the side of and below my left knee...occurs every 3rd step I take, sometimes every step.

I’m surprised that there’s so many people with the same or similar issues and so little in the way of answers.

For me, I’m very tall (6’6”) and have chronic health problems related to Crohn’s Disease and I’m in my late fourths. About a month ago I noticed that when I got up from the floor after playing with my toddler daughter, the skin on the outside of my left knee cap would feel taught... like it was stretched to the max and would rip. I’d feel it with my hand and it’d feel normal. This went on and on a whim I tried a pen and was shocked that the area was numb. Now it’s been a couple weeks, I don’t really know much, and I’m afraid it’s spreading down my leg. It’s just the skin, I can feel pressure.

I read somewhere it could be B12 deficiency, which is possible for me. I’m trying to take supplements and not sure of any change. But it could also be diabetes, which I’m scheduled to check again here soon, but terrified about. I doubt it’s my back as my back has sucked but never manifested like this before.

Thank you. Your experience sounds exactly like mine. When I was down on my knee it felt like I had knelt on a pin! It was a sharp burning, tearing feeling. I, too, did not know it was numb until I felt around. I simply do not believe it is my back as I do not have problems. My knee area is still numb, and the area is actually quite large. I wish there was some way to figure out what it is.

Has anyone gone to a doctor and received an answer? What kind of doctor have you visited?
