I have recent onset of periodic (ever 7 seconds or so) slight opening of my mouth with clucking sounds. I am unaware that this is happening, but have been told about it by others. Any ideas of possible cause?
I'd suggest you see your physician for a physical exam. It may be nothing but it may also indicate an airway issue.
Thanks. I have consulted several colleagues, by email. Several suggested seeing a neurologist, and one thought it might be TMJ syndrome and suggested I see an ENT doctor.
They are all possibilities.
Without seeing and hearing, it's hard to even suggest what might be wrong.
In my opinion, start with your doctor for a full physical exam. Once you rule out anything physical, then move on to neuro. As for TMJ, while it can cause a clicking sound, I've not heard of it causing a "clucking" sound.
