Hello girls and guys. I am a 25 year old female prone to getting UTI's and have been to the ER twice because of them. The first time was because I had extreme pain and blood in my urine; the second time, I didn't even recognize that I had a UTI. I thought I had some kind of serious digestive problem because I was extremely bloated and very, very gassy. I could barely sit up because it was so painful. It turned out that a previous urethra infection traveled to my kidneys! I was put on antibiotics, but I looked for another cure because antibiotics didn't clear the last infection completely. I am taking D-mannose sugar now. The bacteria that cling to your UT wall unstick and you just pee them out. It does not work as quickly as antibiotics, but it works and you can take them every time you have sex without harming yourself. Your body doesn't digest/absorb D-mannose. It just gets flushed out in your pee and takes the bacteria with it. You don't even need a prescription. I had been UTI free for years until recently because I forgot about taking D-mannose as a prevention after that last time I had sex. I started getting painful UTI symptoms 4 days ago so I took D-mannose with plenty water. My symtoms are down to just an itch only when I pee. I didn't need to go on antibiotics to achieve this. D-mannose helps a lot. I would still recommend talking to your doctor, especially if it's your first or one of your first UTI's. I was just reminded of how effective D-mannose is because of my recent infection and wanted to share this to everyone.

I have suffered from many UTI's in the last 2 years. I have talked to my doctor about using AZO to treat the pain and symptoms and she informed me that it was ok to use and would not hurt me or cause an even worse infection. Most, if not all, UTI antibiotics will turn your pee an orangish brownish color. Don't be afraid to take AZO to treat symptoms. However it shouldn't be taken more than a couple days.

I acknowledge you may only be interested in over the counter remedies at the time, but with note that you have consulted with a doctor previously; I wanted to suggest a great prescription medicine by the name of CIPRO! If you have not tried this or received recommendation from your doctor, you will not be disappointed. One regular process of the medicine and you may not encounter the problem again for months to a year! Ask your doctor about it!

I had them all the time, like once a month, 2 weeks after antibiotics were done I was back to the clinic.

For 15 years now I have taken 2- 500mg cranberry pills daily and have NEVER had another infection! Are you stressed, I worked 70hrs a week and it caused them for me. Drink lotts of water, not diet coke, and pound the cranberry pills 3x a day, use uristat or azo to help symptoms for 3 days only. IT IS EASIER TO GET THE AMOUNT OF CRANBERRY YOU NEED WITH THE PILLS , rather than drinking pure juice. Do both if you can! Get a good quality pill, look at them all for mg's and what is in them, ask the Pharmacist they always help, don't be shy!

If you are still symptomatic (burning, urgency) get to a clinic and start antibiotics.

Then get on a daily regimen of cranberry pills and water! TAKE VITAMINS WITH THEM AND STICK TO IT!

Good luck!

I used to use AZO, but i switched to the Lady Soma Cranberry Pills and I find them alot gentler and easier for my system. They also work 1 day faster than AZO for me. Whenever I have issues with antibiotics or other medications that leave me with a feeling of frequency and/or generalized discomfort, the Lady Soma Cranpberry supplements has always helped greatly, especially at night or anytime I have to sit for long

I've suffered from chronic utis for years now, and although I do use Cystex as my over the counter uti medication when i get them, I've really worked on trying to prevent them. Gotta be proactive instead of reactive. Cystex also makes a Urinary Health Maintenance product that you can take daily. It contains ingredients like D-Mannose, Cranberry, Vitamin C, amongst others, that have been proven in studies to help resist bladder infections. Highly recommend trying it, the amount of utis I get has drastically reduced since I've incorporated it into my routine whenever necessary
