Today was the worst Adrenaline Attack every! This happened at around 10 am. I had to pull over. My back muscles were trying to bend me in half backwards! The pain was horrible! I am still feeling the residue of the the attack 12 hours later. That is how I found this site, looking for ideas on what this could be.
My first encounter was a week after a bad spinal tap five years ago at an emergency room that left me bedridden for a week. Since then, whenever my adrenaline goes up by body contorts and I have to stop what I am doing until it subsides.
I am so glad that I have found this site. I though I was the only one going through this. I have read many posts today but I haven't seen any post on ideas of what this could be. I plan to visit my doctor tomorrow. I hope she can help. I'm very worried. :-)
Hi well least we know were not alone !!!! lt wears me out when it happens to me totally knocks stuffing from me, hope you can get an answer from your doc please come back and let us know. ( denise)
What is weird about these ATTACKS is that sometimes they are directly related to streeful situations - and other times - suddenly - they come on with no apparent trigger. Wickdod, I feel for you and encourage you to (if this happens again) get on your hands and knees, drop your stomachin an arch, and rock back and forth - or crawl if you can (se "cross-pattern crawling). I had TWO attacks today for NO reason - out of the blue!! ugh!!
lm guessing we produce too much adrenalin? cos

I have this happen most often following a stressful time hurrying to leave to drive someplace (like getting stuff ready to get to the bank or post office before they close), and maybe going up and down the steps and out to the car. Then, once I am sitting in the car, it happens. Sometimes before I am out the driveway and others after I am a block or two away. Sometimes I have to pull over, and sometimes even get out and stand up. It passes after a minute or two. Other than being frightened by the painful experience, I have not noticed longer side effects. Will pay more attention after reading these posts.
I have had this happen a couple times when standing, but it is most often after hurrying and then stopping my activity and sitting. I have had these for a few years. No explanation from the doctors. I tried to describe this to her a few weeks ago and the response was it sounded like a muscle spasm. This is not like any ordinary muscle spasm. One post here described it as feeling like it is inside the spinal cord, and I agree. For me, it usually begins at kidney level and then, and it pulses (like with a heart throb) grows up toward the neck and once in awhile radiates to the chest. I too have thought it was heart related, especially because of the throbbing, but it is not located for heart. I was thinking some major artery, but the adrenal response discussed here sounds likely.
I have other health issues, am 61, female, overweight and out of shape. I have had EKGs and all bloodwork seems to be fine. I have high blood pressure and am on meds for that and slowing heart rate (but not because of this). So compared to the younger seemingly healthy folks, it doesn't compare except for this "syndrome".
Our common thread seems to be most often sitting after or during a stress on the body, whether from activity or incident, or emotion. Other things we should consider are dehydration (even mild can make a difference in a lot of things), and caffeine intake. Let's try to observe our recent intake of fluids and caffeine before an episode.
Let's hope that a knowledgeable person finds this discussion and can shed some light.
I am 57 year old female with exact same symptoms-just had an episode yesterday when I felt extreme fear, heart beating fast, and pain shooting down my back and stopping in lower back with excruciating throbbing for about 1 minute. I am so glad to find out other people have this issue. I do have lower back disc problems but other than that have a healthy heart (or so I have been told) and am in very good health. I would really love to know what this is!
Im 36 I get the same adrenalin back pain you describe.I get This if I'm exited or scared I sometimes Sing in a band at local pubs just before I go on I get this debilitating pain in my back throbbing it can then leave me with a head ache! I can some times get this during sex! Taking away the pleasure I would normally be feeling at that point and replacing it with intense pain!
it is defo adrenalin related is it too much though OR are we not producing enough something wlse to think about ??? ( denise)
Hi I am experiencing the same pain issues on the left of my spine mid back (kidney area). I strongly believe it is a nervous system problem because I have my own business and I am under a lot of stress all the time. I also experience extreme itching after I shave in the shower and I have read that there are quite a few nerve endings in my legs and feet, which explains it all.
When I am on vacation I never feel pain, or itching and so I am very positive that this is the only problem.
I also, just like all the people above me went to bunch of Doctors and was told 5 different things, prescribed all kinds of medications that even had a big black X (might cause breast cancer) and so I completely stopped taking any medications from these doctors and started just simply taking Valerian Root.
The Valerian Root is known to calm the nerves and I don't want to say that it works all the time, but it definitely helps me keep control of the intense situations. I have also taken it out a few times on my closest people after a very stressful day at work and have lost the trust of a few of them.
I am now planning on selling my business and I can't wait to go back to the cheerful, positive person I was and I really am somewhere inside of me.
I've been taking Ashwagandha and Magnolia Bark supplements after doing some research and it has lessened the sickening back pains I had been getting by about 75%. Once again I am not recommending to anyone else here to use this stuff, do your own research and always check out what side effects may occur.
Hello all,
My name is John and I am 30 years old. I have had this pain since I was a teenager. Yes, I am a bit relieved that I am not the only one in the world, like I've felt all my life, but I'm still worried because I don't know what it is.
I am a medical doctor and I was initially determined to investigate this problem because I feared it had something to do with my heart and my blood vessels (my dad is hypertensive), but I have proven that theory wrong. I initially also thought about the adrenal glands but it's still not medically logical.
Be rest assured that I will find an answer, I hope very soon
John

I have experienced this since having an epidural during the birth of my second son 16 months ago. The epidural took several attempts to administer initially by a trainee then the senior doc took over and got it in ok. I had an epidural 7 years earlier with my first son and suffered no after effects; this first epidural went in much more easily. Very similar stories to many of you, linked to anxiety with driving, also occurred this week when I ran for the train, happens when I get an adrenaline rush. I have to stand up briefly and rub base of back for it to go, then am able to sit and it feels fine again. Good to hear I'm not the only one, hope we find an answer soon!
I have had 4 epidurals in my lifetime. I wonder if there is a connection! Anyone else with these symptoms have an epidural?
