I have the exact same issue all of you have described. I've had 3 C-sections and it started after the 3rd one. For me it is during ovulation as well as the first day, sometimes 2, of my period. Mild pain during ovulation, excruciating during my period. I've started taking ibuprofen as soon as my period starts to help a little. The pain is worse than anything I've ever experienced. I happened to notice, by chance, that if I lean back, instead of sitting straight up or forward, during a bowel movement, the pain is a little more bearable. Since I've started doing that, I've not had to brace myself in pain as in the past. I had a laporascapy (spelling?) and they did find some scar tissue from the C-section that was between my ovaries and wrapped around my colon. This was removed, but did not change the pain at all. After so many surgeries, I just don't want to have anything else done to my body. They did not find endometriosis during the laporascopy. I feel this is related to the C-sections some how.
I am a healthy 40 year old women that has been having this problem for approx. the last 6 months. I am very glad to find out that many other women are having this issue, because I have been scared that there was a major health issue going on with me. At times the pain has been so terrible that I scream and can't help but scream!! I have tried excercising more, taken fiber, eating healthier, and taken ibuprofen, but nothing is helpine me. The thought of having to deal with this every month scares the heck out of me, because the pain is that terrible. Does anyone have any other suggestions to help take the pain away?
I have starting taking HRT and this has completely gone now:)
I'm 41 yrs old with 5 children and I have never suffered with any kind of period pain until about 12 months ago. I could never have imagined being reduced to tears to just pass wind??!!! My GP assures me the pain is caused by hormone changes during my period which soften the bowel, which in turn causes the pain. It only lasts for the first couple of days of my period and may explain why some ladies have found relief with the pill/hrt.
I went to gynae clinic in uk for the same thing and was told unlikely to be endimetriosis because i only get pain for 2 days a month in my rear if I have gas or need a poo- no other pain or heavy periods. I was told IBS was likely....
Sounds silly and simple...Take Gas X and Pamprin during those first 2 days!!
I am 33. Three healthy kids. Also glad to find this thread. First two or three days of my period....I literally dread it like I dreaded going into labor with my kids. The pain completly knocks the wind out of me and then it's like a little bit of gas comes out and then it's over, until the next one. I never know when one is coming on. I'm of normal weight but tried losing weight and exercising more (heard that may help) but hasn't at all. I talked my doc into letting me go on the pill which she doesn't think will help and am also opening up to having a lap does to see if its endro. (although I don't think it is because I don't have any of the other endro issues people have.)
I also read somewhere else to try over the counter gas medication those first 3 days of your period along with a menstral pill or ibp.
Hi Girls
Yes I know how you are all feeling. In a way. I am 25 and have been getting the pain on and off since I was 17 (when I met my partner now husband) We do not have any children, and I don't always get the period pain. I get pain just above my pelvis which goes from one side to the other, but it's passing wind or a stool that is excruitiation. I have had the problem with passing wind or stools this whole time, accept when the Dr's removed my gall bladder last may. My goodness I thought it had to be something to do with that, because it was the first time I had, had no pain. Sadly it came back. I am not sure if it is a bowel thing or not either. I apparently am more than likely allergic to the chemical reaction that happens when the blood touches the pads and then touches my skin Blister's everywhere so I always have to use tampons, but this period I got early and wow the pain I didn't even know I was getting the period and then.........
After about 4 hours of getting them and having to go to the toilet not defecating or anything like that, the most horrendous pain I've had. Due to my culture I will only speak to females, but even find this so hard to do. Lol to the point I only had my first papsmear this year.
If anyone has any advise this would be great. I know I have no cysts as when had abdo ultrasound last year there was absolutely not a thing there. I know I have an Ischaemic bowel so wonder if this is causing any problems. Hmmm bit freaky to think so many have this problem. I feel sorry for all you girls/Women out there that have this problem.
Hi everyone,
so refreshing to see others who know exactly what i am going through too (on my 3rd day of the cycle now).
I have intense pain when it comes to passing stool and gas. The pain is so intense, like others, i find myself gripping onto something to steady myself so i dont pass out, it is impossible to explain to your loved ones.
I have a history of cysts from when i was 14 (i am 30 now) and the doctor put me on the pill to reduce the length of my period as i would bleed for up to 9 days.
This did help for a number of years but the last 2-3 years it has become almost useless as my period goes for almost 5 days now even on the pill. I did try another brand but it made me very ill so im back on my usual brand.
The doctor has also advised that i may very well have endo so i have to have the lap which im a bit nervous about!! From what i am reading, it doesnt do much when they remove the endo anyway.
The pain during my cycle in general is excruciating and i am in bed for the first 2-3 days from the pain. I drink hot tea constantly to try and reduce the pain. This month i tried a new drug called Ponstan which didnt help with the pain in passing stool however did reduce my bleeding and some of the period pain. The active ingredient is mefenamic acid. Be sure to speak to your doctor first before trying it as it is not for everyone and is not something you can take for a long period of time. I have tried every drug there is to help with the pain with no relief except for the mefenamic acid (Ponstan) so worth a shot!
So is this common in most of us?! Glad to hear that..!!!! ;) I am 23years old, so someone advise me do i need to consult a geynocologist or i ll continue to bear the pain like i did from past 3 or 4 years..? I hope this pain wouldnt cause problem in conceiving or during delivery. :)(God Bless all these ladies :))
