Hey babe I read think you may have hidradenitis suppurativa. I'm no doctor but my friend has the same exact thing and that's her diagnosis. Best of luck.

This thread was a huge help to me a year ago, and now I am back writing my reply. I am a white female and 29. I definitely think what I have is hidradenitis suppurativa, and it started when I was 11. I got a painful cyst, about the size of a marble, where my right leg and groin meet. My mom took me to the doctor that first time, but I don't remember the prescription, or that it helped at all. It was such an embarrassing problem that I just put up with the cysts that would swell out of nowhere probably monthly, be very painful for about a day, and then slowly go away. For a long time it was just on the right side of the groin, but sometime in my late teens, the left side joined in, too. I got partial bikini and Brazilian laser hair removal, partially for cosmetic reasons but also to try to help the problem, if it was a hair follicle thing, but the cysts haven't stopped. Luckily, I think mine is a pretty mild case, since they have only ever been in these areas. I also have some scarring around my bikini area from the long history of these cysts. Sometimes I'll have up to three at a time, which can make even walking uncomfortable.

Last summer, with just three months before my wedding, I finally got fed up and did a ton of research, finding this site. I combed through all the suggestions and went all out trying to fight. Here's what I did:
1. Zinc supplements
2. Daily hot showers (I have long hair so I typically shower every other day)
3. Exfoliation (I use baking soda, and not too roughly)
4. Generic panoxyl soap bar
5. Wearing only cotton underwear, no synthetics
6. Ichthammol ointment

Here's the outcome. I couldn't tell you if the zinc had any effect, so I stopped taking them when I finished the 90 pills/3 months' worth. The ichthammol ointment is noxious stuff, like the byproduct of making crude oil or something. Between the smell and the fact that it stains, it just wasn't worth it, and I actually don't usually need soothing relief for very long.

But 2-5 really helped! I religiously washed every single day for months, letting the hot water soak for a while, then scrubbing with baking soda, then lathering the soap for 20 seconds per side of my groin. And I have avoided my non-cotton underwear. While the problem didn't go away completely, these steps SIGNIFICANTLY reduced the occurrence of the cysts. I have since fallen off the routine for a bit, but this was a huge breakthrough, so, thank you everyone! I combed back through the thread and am now going to try garlic pills!

YES. Most definitely, i am a cab driver and had two operations on cysts in the groin area
in the last 3yrs . I asked Dr. what causes this problem [" anything " ]. I have been to the gym, i've lost weight, i've stopped drinking, and still they re-occur. Myself i put it down to having acne [ greasy skin when i was a teenager ] and unfortunately it's in your /my system. some people are more prone than others. Hope this helps [even though the pain is unbearable, you're not alone ].

a tail bone cyst is different he that is call a pilonidal cyst and he should actually go in to his/her PCP to discuss removal options before it becomes more serious

HS normally presents with drainage at the site and are inflammed. tx. would be intra lesional kenalog injection adminstered by a Care provider ( pref. dermatologist) at 10-20mg. concentration depending on how bad the area is, in conjuction with doxycyline 100mg. twice a day. have the provider's office continously monitor the site ( every 2 weeks) to ensure the site is reacting and does not develop into an abcess. if this happens (difference being cyst are small collections of dead skin and other natural human debris, and abcess forms a tract in the skin and has become infected) the abcess will have to be lanced and surgically removed by a general surgeon. Hope this helped!

Thanks for the information. I thought this condition was a lot more rare than it evidently is.! I have been getting these cysts in the last six months, and I didn't know what to do. -unfortunately I kept trying to pop one because it kept swelling. Then the cyst got infected. I was about to see a Dr.-when the cyst popped on it'so own.after it drained, I washed the area, and swebbed on neosporin.. it got much better., then another one came up on the other side. Thanks for the guidance ,!

Hi I have the same issue. It can be due blocked sweat glands. When your sweat glands become blocked germs are trapped which causes the bulid up of pus. I know how painful it is but do not squeeze the cysts. A warm compress is best and consult with your doctor. Cysts can be much bigger than they appear to be. I had one that didn't want to go away and ended up in surgery getting it removed. It seemed to be pea-sized from the outside but once removed it was bigger than a grape.

I've been dealing with this for 15 years. Been to a dozen doctors. They've prescribed meds and heat. It usually drains in 24 hrs. Sometimes it takes 72 hours just depending on how long it's been sense the last occurance. I'm so tried of dealing with this. I'm menopause age and I truly believe it's due to hormones no matter what doctors tell you. Sense Thanksgiving I've had seven in the same place. My quality of life as you know is not great. I'm going this month to a surgeon for removal. However, it's now moved to the other side of my leg groin area. This is the first time I've taken off work for this problem it's become debilitating. Hope this helps someone whom suffers.
