I seem to be having the same problem as a lot of people. I thought I was almost alone in this. I consulted my sister who is a R.N.
She says it sounds glandular to her. She gave me some steps to do for a few days and I will let you know how it turns out. By the way, it IS painful and hard to turn my head.

I have been having the same mild tightness around my neck, a tight swallow, pulsating on my scalp above the ear, and in the little hole at the base of my neck (what the heck is that spot called?), along with a slight burning sensation in my face, arm pain and tingling, and extremely hard knots along the top of my shoulders. My arms frequently fall asleep in themiddle of the night, and a couple times my whole face went numb as I was sleeping (very weird feeling). I'm in the process of testing, and so far thyroid-OK, titer-OK, brainMRI-OK (no MS). Next is MRI of neck and shoulder region. I'll post again, if I ever get a disagnosis. %-)

i have only just started getting throbbing pains in the hollow of my neck.near my collar bone.
mine isnt a sharp pain it is more like a dull ache.but it makes me feel like i am going to be sick.i have trouble breathing and swallowing.and sometimes.i have trouble talking because it feels like my tounge is swollen.like i have pulled a muscle in it.and yesterday the pulled muscle feeling moved down my neck and in my jaw aswell.
it sounds odd.im not sure if i have a thyroid problem and a year ago i got told one had been found in 2005 but i had never been told.i did have similar problems then but i got told it was a type of glandular fever.and i have heard nothing more about my thyroid apart from it is also overactive.
i havent had toothache yet though.but it does get worse if i ben down.
im 19 by the way and in good health otherwise

I have been having the same problem too....it started two weeks ago. I was walking for about 5 mins with some heavy bags in the hot sun and when i finally put them to rest i noticed a heavy 'sticking out' pulse at my neck near to my left collar bone. then over the days the swelling went down a bit then came back with too much physical activity. then a few days ago i feel a lump in my troat like another blood vessel got swollen. i feel ok when i sleep but when i wake up the pain starts and some times its almost hard to breathe and my heart pains too. my ears neck shoulder and upper back aches.....i dont know what to do...it gets worst every day

Okay like 3 days ago I woke up with a simple sore throat which was cloged and everytime i spoke or breath it was hard enough but cleared up have I coughed an wat not. It felt like a simple sore throat. As the next day came it got worse and my outer neck was swollen and it was extreamly sore like i slept wrong but either way i moved it, it hurt so much like a terrible sharp pain shock through. As the next day came I started to get extream migrains or however u spell it [sorry] and when I took meds took a nap and woke back up I felt fine and all the pain kicked back in at once and now it wont go away. I am told I am just sick but it doesnt feel like it. the pain is pounding I talk, cough, swallow, eat, my throat hurts so much. I yawn my jaw hurts as well. And all this pain is happing from my neck up and its killing me to the point i just want to lay down and not even move. Im taking motion, tylenol pms, and advil and it doesnt last long and the pain kicks back in. I dont know whats going on.

I am relieved to hear that there are other people out there feeling this way. This is something that I have had on and off for the last five years but my recent attack now is driving me insane! I have always had issues with my glands stemming from chronic tonsilitis as a child (had them removed at 18). Since then my glands seem to flare up along with my thyroid. I too have that same feeling of pressure around my neck, throbbing, fatigue but patches of energy. The easiest way I have been able to explain to a non sufferer is that feeling you get when you hang upside-down for too long. Each time I present these symptoms to the doctor they always point out my swollen thyroid but upon testing nothing EVER shows up. Although I have discussed this with the natropath and each time I have taken their medication for an underactive thyroid it seems to clear up - I'm not sure if it's just luck though?

I have a high pressured job and with a family and busy social life I'm wondering if it's from burning the candle at both ends? I'm thinking that some form of meditation may assist. I'm utterly stumped as to what this is? The only other thing that does come to mind is that my body has been through a fair amount of stress in the last few years with having babies and a serious motorbike accident (all good now though). Is this my bodies way of say 'enough'? I'm not the type of person that 'think's sick' and I'm forever trying to distract myself from these aching glands.

I would love to hear more about any diagnoses or alternative therapy that's assisted in some small way. :-(

Hi all,

You all are describing this just as I feel it. I first recognized it yesterday morning as I was eating. Anytime I swallow, whether it be food drink, or saliva, the pain is felt. I have to tilt my head to the right so that when I swallow I don't feel as much pain. The throbbing is aweful and it does feel heavy. I feel it in my ear and neck. I am to see an Ear, Nose, and Throat Doctor (Otolaryngologist) next week. If I hear anything, I will post back for the rest of you.

Wow!

It's a bit reassuring to know that many other people out there have similar or exactly same problems.

I have had varying degrees of pain in the sides of my neck and jaw for a few years now. It comes and goes, and I can never figure out what causes it. I've thought maybe TMJ, perhaps because I'm a sloucher, I have high blood pressure as well.

Usually, it goes away within a few days or a week, and it's not usually too painful. If it is, it's usually only for a day.

However, this week, I've had this constant pain for over five days now. I've been taking anti inflammitories 3 times a day, and it's not helping one bit. If I tilt my head back while sitting, it can cause massive pain, after eating or talking a lot, it can hurt. But it also starts to hurt very randomly as well, just from sitting down sometimes. Ironically, sitting down can also make it feel better.

It could be GERD (Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease). I have a chronic problem with my throat & inflammation and it is due to the GERD that was untreated for so long. With the heartburn, are they worse at night (lying down) and do they feel like heart attracjs but are not? You mentioned Hypertension, that & heartburn could be a cardiac disorder such as heart disease as well or could lead to it.

Does your neck pain feel like when you were a kid and blew up too many balloons? That sensation in the gland areas that pulses. I am having symptoms like that now. It even wakes me up from sleep and hurts too much to go back to sleep. It is scary that health professionals can't find a cause for those of you out there that have had tests ran....

I have had the same symptoms on and off for about 2 1/2 years. After doing some online research...the only thing I can come up with is carotidynia migraines. I suffer from regular aura migraines also, but these are MUCH different. I have yet to have this diagnosed, but have found that there isn't much to find clinically anyway. I hope this helps everyone!

Hello, as all of you have done I (in panic) searched for similar symptoms.
Ill write it in step by step of what I remember happening (began today).
1-At around 4 o clock whilst driving an unpleasant sensation occurre in my throat, it was around where the "Adam's Apple" is located but on the inside, it felt as if Id swallowed something like a marshmallow and it had gotten lodged in the described area, the sensation was similar to that of a sore throat but quite a bit more intense.
2-1-2 hours later, the sensation pain in the throat continues but now both ears (mostly my right ear) began to feel a bit numb, also more or less whole neck began to ache.
3-Another 1-2 hours pass and now all the above symptoms continue, at first I thought it was a normal flu type swollen glands.
4-Around 9 o clock, again all above symptoms continue but now the "lodged marshmallow" feeling in the "Adam's Apple" still remains but not as intense as previous but still is quite very painful and uncomfortable, instead the "lodged marshmallow" feeling has duplicated and started aching in the bottom of chest (where both pectoral muscles join with centre of ribcage).
5-Around 11 o clock whilst in bed, all above symptoms continue except for the second "lodged marshmallow" which has not worringly stayed at the same height but travelled to the left and is now in my heart, taking deep breaths really hurt my heart, heart is really aching and producing a very loud pumping noise, closest i can describe the sound to is a clicking noise similar to dripping water and car indicator sounds. Again due to the loud sound from heart I can hear the beats which dont seem to be in time as usual, a beat every now and then which change to 2 or 3 fast beats and then start over again, upon trying to listen, the clicking noise from my heart appears to be coming from my right side (of my heart), apart from the aching pain in my heart when trying to inhale deep breaths but also breathing feels noticeably restricted, various parts of my arms, legs, feet and hands also feel rather numb and throat feels as if a severe soreness is occurring and is also harder to swallow. Ears also continue to feel sore and swollen but also hearing has been quite difficult through my right ear. Im not really the type of person to worry about weird occurences in/on my body, but being my heart and the "lodged marshmallow" feeling travelling from throat, to chest, to heart is rather unsettling, is it simply a one of that occurs sometimes or am should I be more worried and seek immeadiate or non urgent medical attention?
I appreciate any responses sent back.
Thank you

SO RELIEVED TO FIND OUT I'M NOT THE ONLY ONE SUFFERING FROM THIS THROBBING!! IT STARTS AS A SLIGH THROB IN THE BOTTOM OM MY THROAT AS THE DAY PROGRESSED IT GETS WORSE. IF I LIE DOWN OR BEND FORWARD ITS EVEN WORSE, THE PAIN SHOOTS THROUGH MY NECK UP TO MY JAW. IF I TAKE A DEEP BREATH I GET A PAIN IN MY CHEST. I'VE BEEN TOLD THAT IT CAN BE STRESS OR ANXIETY, MY THYROID, CLOGGED ARTERIES OR A SPASM OF MY ESOPHAGUS. HAD TESTS DONE ON MY THYRIOD AND ARTERIES - NO PROBLEMS THERE.
THE THROBBING LASTS FOR A FEW DAYS AT A TIME AND PASSES. JUST TO START AGAIN AT ANY GIVEN TIME, DAYS WEEKS ECT.
