First off, let me start off by stating the marijuana is not addictive. And for those of you whom do smoke, I recommend a volcano vaporizer. Although marijuana doesn't contain more tar than cigarretts, you do absorb more tar when smoking marijuana. Which is due to the fact, that most users tend to hold their smoke in 0 % of the tar. The vaporizer steams your bud to the correct temperature to still release the THC. So purchase a Volcana Vaporizer and forget about the worries of second hand smoke

I do not have any scientific theory or proof that marijuana smoke is harmful to children or cause parents to neglect their children. What I do know is this: I have been clean from meth for almost four years now. When I was using meth I neglected my daughter and gave my friend "guardianship" because I was in my addiction and rather than getting clean I chose to party. I stole, I lied, I had sex to get drugs, and lived in motels. I had no morals and hardly ever saw my daughter. I have been clean four years now and I am actively in my daughters life and she will be living with me again within the next year(just have to move into a bigger place). I am now married, have a job, pay rent, pay bills, go grocery shopping, attending school, and have a two year old son whom I play with everyday and is perfectly healthy. I smoke marijuana every night after he goes to bed(he is in a seperate room). I have not once neglected him or my responsibilities. For those of you condemning marijuana and comparing it to other illegal drugs, alcohol(which by the way is legal), and prescription medicine, you are obviously not an addict and are spewing at the mouth not facts but opinion. You are entitled to this and in no way do I look down at you for them. I do not condone smoking around the children because honestly, until they are an adult and have graduated I do not want mine smoking, and me smoking around them would be irresponsible. I am just saying that unless you have a personal experience or have scientific proof(most of which are in favor of marijuana) please do not make demeaning comments about something you know nothing about.

I sous like to reply to the person who wondered why marijuana was still illegal if it's so harmless. Corporations like DuPont (synthetic fiber producers) and Annhauser Busch (beer distributors) were trying to corner markets for their products following prohibition and through heavily financed lobbying, kept hemp illegal. The petroleum industry, threatened by cannabis' viable, renewable fuel oil, joined the bandwagon and there you have it. In my opinion, an occasional toke taken recreationally is on the same level as an occasional beer. Go outside if you are around non-smokers of any age. Eat right, excersise, forgive, laugh, and have a nice day.

Every kid who was a friend of mine growing up that smoked with their partents, rather the parents smoked with them, came from a dysfunctional and poverty-stricken family.

I have to agree with dirtyaudi. I have exactly the same experience with my no longer friends. It's a shame that a child cannot chose in that situation. Marijuana is clearly a dangerous drug which poses a particular threat to the health and well-being of children and adolescents at a critical point in their lives when they are growing, learning, maturing, and laying the foundation for their adult years.

I can't help but wonder if you take the same consideration to parents using perscription medication. A very large percentage of parents today are medicated with anti-depressants and anti-anxieties. What do you think of a parent whom uses medication to relieve pain. These medicines have been proven to have much more harmful effects. I agree you shouldn't be smoking it around your children but to simply be a parent who uses is completely harmless.

For what it's worth I will say that if you are using weed in your home with your children they will eventually know it and the real issue is what are you teaching them. Uh, how NOT to deal with stress and life in a healthy manner.
The second hand smoke is a no brainier, unless one has just crawled out from under a rock. The emotional consequences are more insidious. I speak from personal experience. Our children started life in a home where smoking weed was a common occurrence and I am also a grandmother of a granddaughter who was just diagnosed with oppositional defiance disorder (ODD). My own children were definitely effected by our distracted emotionally unavailable behavior due to being high and our granddaughter is also in a home where the smoking was a lot less when it was just her and my daughter unlike now were the two adults in the house have a daily habit and the child is behaving much more angrily. Call me silly but I think there may be a connection. I also came across some info just this A.M. stating kids from weed smoking homes have higher rates of anger and regressive behavior such as thumb sucking. There was not source for the info so take it for what it's worth. I believe weed is just the same as alcohol in that if some one wants to have a drink once in awhile, share a joint at a cook out or are prescribed medical marijuana use by a doctor that is probably not a problem however when it is a regular occurrence one might wonder why what is the smoker self medicating.

well first to reply the question:
smoking weed around kids, while an ethical question, and technically illegal, is completely harmless.
i smoke pot. i do not smoke around my daughter or let her see me do it.  but that is because it's illegal. the truth is i know i could be high around her and she wouldn't notice one bit but for this BS stigma society has attached to it simply because its a subculture not the cultural phenomenon of alcohol.  i still wouldn't SMOKE around her though. and it's not cause the THC would get her high. it's cause there're CARCINOGENS in the smoke. thats what the problem with second hand smoke is. the c**p not the drug. THC and nicotine go in and c**p comes out. and that sh*t is bad. i vaporize only. it heats the weed to the level of evaporation and the plant doesn't burn. you breathe water vapor and THC vapor. no tar etc. also i'm high most of the time and i function almost flawlessly.

this blog is the worst sh*t i've ever read. pot is the social pariah of drugs. total misinformation it's sickening. there have been numerous amounts of documentation proving the benign (harmless-for you holier  ***edited by moderator*** ** inappropriate posting***

FACTS: THC relieves pain and nausea in cancer patients. THC increases appetite in AIDS patients. THC is completely harmless to the body. the smoke while containing carcinogens is not good for your lungs but not 1/10th the danger of cigarettes. YOU DON'T HAVE TO SMOKE IT! you can eat it (food and pills), drink it, and vaporize it.  while it reduces motor function slightly it's ACTUALLY PROVEN TO BE NOT AS DISORIENTING AS ALCOHOL WHILE DRIVING. no one has ever died from it. the intoxication to amount needed for over dose ratio is 1:40,000 while alcohol is 1:4!!!!  i mean, seriously i can go on and on and on and on.

the war on drugs does nothing but put harmless people in jail and waste sh*t tons of money. truthfully its illegal cause it makes you think free and they don't want that. theyh want you to buy their food and their drugs and their BS. on weed, you dont wanna work work work just to eat.  you don't wanna hurt other people, you don't wanna be overly ambitious...all things the sociopaths running the world use us to do: make industry, fight wars, rule the world.  they want drones. pot makes you peaceful and not competitive. countries can't have that or the bad guys will run us over. they're scared. rulers. they're big fat cowards who try to hoard and control everything. that's why it's illegal. that and some old economic and racist BS back in the day.

and industrial hemp is easily the strongest and most versatile cash crop in existence.

read a book or try yourself before you speak.

I have family members who smoke marijuna around their young children pretty much every day. What kind of lonf term effect can this leave of the children? Is it as bad as if the children were smoking the marijuan themselves?

Children will learn that when they smell parents smoking pot that they may have to be more responsible for themselves cause their parents are to wasted to make them dinner or go to the shop to get some food. They will also learn that when their parents sit around and smoke pot it is the perfect time to do mischievious things cause no one is present.. Mum Dad are in la la land. They know their folks personality has changed and do their best to avoid upsetting them thus treading on egg shells and becoming overly in tune with everyone's moods creating anxiety in later years. you wanna smoke mull full time you may as well give up your kids cause it has heavy side effects on us otherwise pull your head in and do it occasionally when the kids aren't around

you don't have to tread on egg shells around people that've been smoking weed!  maybe meth, or alcohol.. not f*****g weed.   ***this post is edited by moderator *** *** inappropriate posting*** Please read our Terms of Use

weed is essentially harmless.  the only objectively negative effects it can have are 1) some impairment of the hippocampus, meaning some short term memory loss while high; 2) it makes you tired, so if you smoke all the time it can be hard, but not impossible, to get yourself to do all your work at maximum efficiency; 3) mild (read: not a big deal at all) withdrawals if you smoke weed all day everyday, but these are no worse than what you would get from coffee

thats it.  ain't no thang.  there are carcinogens, but they get flushed out of your lungs (unlike with tobacco smoke, which damages your lungs making them unable to repair themselves).  weed helps the cleaning out process since it is an expectorant and a bronchodilator (one study i read found it to be more effective at this, in the context of asthma treatment, than any other pharmaceutical drug on the market).  plus weed smoke contains chemicals that cause programmed cell death in precancerous cells.

also, weed doesn't AT ALL make you more stupid.  it makes you slower, but much more intuitive.  fact: i'm smart, but i can do calculus much better high than not high.  a friend of mine was having issues writing a paper, so he got high, and ended up getting an A on it.  i know lots of people who respond similarly to the plant.  actually, the smartest people at my college (a highly ranked liberal arts school), the ones who understand class material the best and often the ones scoring highest, smoke weed either every day or at least somewhat frequently.

i smoked everyday all day for a while, but had to stop because i was running out of spending money and then found out i have a heart condition i was born with.  i had to do this last year too but because of a drug test for a job.  it wasn't difficult in the slightest.  the people who can't stop smoking weed are either stupid or have psychological or emotional problems.  sorry.

Well I am a concerned grandparent raising 3 out of 4 grand children. parents are being over seen by OK DHS on last child . Get this . From DHS worker- " Its not the amount of drugs the parents take its the effects the drug have only the parents ability to care for the child" If their drug test is positive for marijuana then the child will still remain in the home. i would loose my nursing liscense and if caught with it I would go to jail. After researching the effects of marijuana have been told this and how could this be safe invironment for this child . Even if the parents aren't smoking around the child ,what happens when they run out and start having the craving, anxiety, depression( depression kills, aint heard that have we) and panic and the filling of people out to get you. x2 i heard this . The parents sleep the days away- the mother especially so now the message go ahead get hi as long as the baby looks ok to DHS-

Are you joking? You have absolutely no credibility.
I hope you realize that cancer patients are sometimes given medical marijuana to help with their appetite. I normally don't single out people in discussions like this, and believe me when I say this isn't coming from arrogance, but you are blatantly lying! You obviously have no idea what the hell you are talking about... "ciggarettes contain nicotine, which is only physically addicting. marijuana smoke, on the other hand, is cancer causing. That is not to say that there are no carcinogens (cancer causing elements) in marijuana smoke, because everything that combusts (burns) releases carcinogens.yes, paper, wood, etc. The difference with marijuana is that THC actually stops growth and strength of the body and lung's ability to destroy cancer-causing cells." That makes no sense, AT ALL! Cigarrettes have been proven to cause cancer. "Tobacco addiction, the second-leading cause of death in the world, is a culprit for approximately 5 million deaths each year or 1 in 10 adult deaths." (reference: http://emedicine.medscape.com/article/287555-overview). Marijuana smoke does indeed have more carcinogens, but the THC in marijuana acts as a buffer against these carcinogens -- tobacco has no parallel to this. "Furthermore, compounds found in cannabis have been shown to kill numerous cancer types including: lung cancer [9], breast and prostate [10], leukemia and lymphoma [11], glioma [12], skin cancer [13], and pheochromocytoma [14]" (reference: "http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC1277837/"). Read up before you run your mouth.

Ps. I am in no way saying that smoking in front of your children is a smart idea. While weed is still illegal, it puts them at risk of being comfortable with the black market where other drugs are easily available to them, sometimes easier than it is to obtain alcohol during high school. Be smart about it. Even if marijuana was legalized, there would be a regulation on age, just as there is with two drugs that are much, much more harmful to them (tobacco and alcohol, yes they are both drugs).

Also, I know this is a late response. But I would love to have an argument with someone as ignorant as this. If anyone wants answers from a reliable source, feel free to email me at (_[removed]_). I am not a professional reference, but I'm willing to read through legitimate documents before I give the first response that comes ouf of my ass like buds4lyfe. Didn't your mother tell you its rude to lie?
