I had this same problem too. I am a 54 year old male. it went on for more than a year and through several doctor visits. finally I saw one doctor who suspected it to be a yeast infection. he prescribed a cream (clotrimazole-betamethasone) and it worked like a miracle!

I have had experiences just like most of the people on this site. Often there is some kind of remission. In my experience the 'problem' is always parasitic. If I regularly do a parasite cleanse, and stop feeding them through watching my diet carefully I can make a difference down there and begin to feel normal again. If/when they come back (and you NEVER get rid of them completely) I convince myself it's a hemorrhoid, dietary intolerance or something else. It never is and back I go to as many parasite protocols I can think of, not necessarily all together though. Parasites are insidious things; they adapt, get to you eat what they like, manifest in many different ways and always have you seeking other causes for their presence. My protocol includes 'Herb Pharm - Intestinal Tract Defense', bentonite clay (it attracts and binds them up and out they go), diamataceous earth (shreds the adults and eggs alike), Grapefruit seed extract supplement and icluding in my diet garlic( or supps), ginger and lots of leafy raw greens. I cut down grains, meat and dairy when I go after them too.
I hope this might help some of you. Your symptoms are consistent with my own. No colonoscopy or tests will reveal the real culprit here.
The longer I live with this the more I am attuned to their presence in my body. Other symptoms may include a dry cough when lying down at night, itchy nose (high up passage), slight itch in the eye corner, faint crawling sensation in anal area to name a few.
Pinworms are the obvious parasite people consider since they are so prevalent. However, round worms and rope worms should also be considered and if you have had or do have candida overgrowth you almost certainly have a parasite infestation. They hide out in the candida bloom.
Hopefully, this might help some of you in despair.

Further to my above post - parasites exude substances that are very irritating and can cause any passages down there to be very sensitive, burning, itchy or sore.

Try changing your toilet paper. This happened to me after using Charmin because my husband wanted to use only that brand. Switched to a cheaper brand and it went away within days

I also have been experiencing the same symptoms. Went to the doctor and he noticed tears along with the sore, itch. I even break out in big bumps around the rectum.
I was thinking back to what I have done different with my cleansing and came up with the Cottonelle wet wipes. If I subside from the use of them I seem to clear up a bit plus the doctor told me to use Polysporum and boy this does give me relief and can sleep all night.
Since reading a lot about the wet wipes I have decided to discontinue the use of them and perhaps go back to my old faithful ones I have used for years without and problems.

Our downstairs bathroom is very small with the sink right in front of the toilet, and we just lean forward and get a lottle, water on a wad of toilet paper. Works just fine! But the upstairs toilets are not near a sink, so we got wipes for those bathrooms. I am recently beginning to think it is the wipes that have been causing my problems (thank you for your post) so I was trying to think of an alternative. I think I am just going to get a little spray bottle of water to keep near the toilet, and use the same method as downstairs. Spritz some water on the tp. Just don't wet it too much or it disentigrates when you try to clean up!

Did you ever find out what the problem was? We are the same age and our stories are basically the same. I have been suffering with this for 7 months and before that and still, 2 years of daily diarrhea to which doctors tell me it's stress. My husband is in the military and I have to say these doctors don't know sh*t and don't care and it's an act of God to see a specialist. It's embarrassing to get a new doctor and this is the first issue you bring to them and instead of helping they repeat the same sh*t the previous doctors did.

I am a 29 year old female and i also suffer from this problem for a while now! An intense burning itch in my anus, perineum and low part of my vaginal opening! The itching is so bad but I can’t stop scratching!! It hurts but is also a relief at the same time if that makes any sense! Sometimes I scratch so much I cause small tears and the area gets red and inflamed and weeps a little bit! I also have realized that it occurs more When I am going to bed after working (sometimes day or night I work swing shift soo it just depends when I’m going to sleep) but sometimes it just happens randomly during the day! It drives me nuts! It is embarrassing and uncomfortable!

I have found that using tucks pads (witch hazel) helps stop the burning itch almost immediately after use! I even carry a few in my purse. It does burn when it first hits the skin but stops quickly and the relief is almost instant! I hope this helps! However i am also looking for something preventative to stop it from happening all together so if anyone has any ideas it would be appreciated!

You should see a psychiatrist. I’m a neurosurgeon, but spent many years in research and general practice. Your symptoms do NOT indicate a parasite, nor would Vaseline have any effect on a parasite. You sound as though you legitimately have convinced yourself of that diagnosis despite all evidence that it’s untrue. That leads me to believe there is something psychological occurring as well. I’m not implying there is nothing physically wrong with you, but you are experiencing some mental health issues as well. I hope you find the solutions to both. Best wishes.
