Had the same problem for a log time.  Cutting the story down,  I  started having trouble in late 2006-early Feb of 2007.  Tried everything to get relief.  It was awful!  Burning, itching, pain and bleeding.  I used  Aveeno calamine & Pramoxine HCI cream that helped and gave some relief most of the time.  I recently I began drinking Orange juice on a regular basis and noticed it got worse and on days I didn't drink it, problem was slightly better.  Also, at work using their toilet tissue it was a little better.  Finally after having gone through several brands of toilet paper, including Northern and Charmin (made it really worse) in their various types.  I finally just realized it had to be the toilet paper and not something wrong with me.  Two weeks ago I switch to plain regular smooth Scott toilet paper and the problem is GONE.  Everything is gone and healed!  I think maybe back in 2006/07 a change was made in the paper and I'm allergic to what is used in the toilet paper.  For me I found the answer and hope Scott will not change their paper.

I have been suffering from this problem since the birth of my daughter a year and a half ago. I am 30, am dairy free, exercise regularly, and eat  a high fiber diet. I saw a surgeon to assist with the problems as I thought it was hemorrhoids. She gave me a steroid/antifungal cream. It helped but as soon as I stopped using it the problems came back and more severe.  I was concerned about continuous use of a steroid cream over time on a very sensitive area so have discontinued its use. The only thing I have found that curbs the itching is Baby Aquaphor as I use this cream as a cure all. I think it is related to yeast or some other bacteria in this region. However, I am also wondering if I am allergic to whatever the chemicals they use to make the toilet paper as some other brands make it dramatically worse compared to the one I use. I do not know about anyone else but showers make the region dramatically worse. That is why I think it may be related to yeast/bacteria as the hot, moist, air makes it a better breeding ground. I look forward to not being awakened from this nuisance in my future...hopefully.

I am back to NORMAL NOW I started having the same problems October of 2010 one day I was fine the next completely miserable. I tried everything to stop the dry, itch, pain, sting, discomfort, and nothing worked. I thought I had a yeast infection, then I thought I had hemorrhoids, I thought I had some weird infection, I thought I had a PH problem, I tried sensitive wipes, vaginal itch creams, baby diaper rash creams, A & D ointments, baby soaps, ivory soap,  Epsom salt baths, ice packs, steroid cream and the list goes on. I suffered for months, for no apparent reason. I never started anything new, no change in laundry soap or diet.   For those who have suffered with vaginal or anal discomfort you know how awful it can be!  Sitting, standing walking, going to the bathroom, having sex, basically everyday function is involved. Some of the things I tried worked a little but not completely, always a little Nag still there.  FINALLY I FOUND A FIX!! :-D  A PERMANENT FIX!!!!  I suffered for 9 months and now I am back to normal.  I bought Balneol Hygienic cleansing lotion and literally it changed my life.  I did change to Ivory Soap and now I don't use anything else. The first time I used Balneol was after my shower before bed.  In the morning I was 90% better, I couldn't believe how little my discomfort was, I used it again that morning and that night, by the following morning, NOTHING!!! NO DISCOMFORT!!!  I was so happy I could have cried to finally just to have my body back, no more pain or itching AMAZING!!!  I do use it once in a blue moon now, I still have the original bottle I bought almost a year ago and if I feel a slight moment of discomfort I use it IMMEDIATELY, discomfort goes away and NORMAL again for weeks to months.  It changed my life for the better.

I have been having a similar problem for months now and I have found that 2 drops of Oil of Oregano in a quarter cup of water completely gets rid of the discomfort. This would suggest a fungal or parasitic problem. I have been taking the oil for about a month and when I stop the symptoms still return the next day. Therefore, it seems that more than 4 weeks is required. Will let you all know when I no longer need the oil of oregano to get by.

CITRIC ACID in wipes can make things ALOT worse. Avoid it ;)

I have had similar experiences and I got treated for pinworm with the dose and then again a week later. This went on for a year, until I found a Dr that said the infection can sometimes be resistant to the small dosage and the eggs live for at least two weeks after first treatment. The Dr treated me for two weeks with Vermox twice a day and a cream that is mixed (part anti-fungal and part prescription strength cotisone). I'm just finishing my first week. He also explained that some people's digestive tracts are more susceptible to pinworm and it is harder for them to rid themselves of it. I just finished week one. I will follow up when I'm done. If anyone is having similar problems please let me know. Thanks.

After years of suffering with this condition also, and trying almost everything mentioned here, no solution was found.

I now notice that every 2-3 months or so, I have a large amount of leaky white-clear mucus come out in large amounts, when I poop, which actually smells similar to a yeast infection. This indicates a parasite of some form that causes a secondary yeast infection in the intestine. I even comsume large amounts of beneficial yogurt, but that doesn't help.

The only help I have found is using vaseline all over the anus and pernium, I suspect an intestinal parasite, even tho my doctors say thats not it. I tried pinworm medication, no help or change..

I think whats happening is some parasite is coming out of the anus, and depositing eggs on the outside, on the anus, and pernium, because since I have been using vaseline, (in large amounts, every 12 hours) the symptoms have been slowly going away. And every so often I feel a pinch, or itching, or as if something is moving around the anus, but since I have been using the vaseline, its more often indicating that the parasite cannot deposit its eggs properly anymore due to the slick surface.

I think what MOST of the people who post here have is some kind of intestinal parasite that deposits its eggs on the outer skin.

BUT NOT PINWORMS, something else.
(or this is a new kind of pinworm that is immune to modern medicine.)

Again, my symptoms indicate pinworms, but after taking the medication, twice in 2 weeks, and not seeing an improvement, I suspect that a new pinworm that is immune to the medicine we all use, is what this is all about, or another parasite that ALSO DEPOSITS ITS EGGS ON THE OUTER SKIN.

If anyone knows of a parasite that follows the same symptoms of pinworms ,
(deposits its eggs outside, on the anus and pernium, and those deposits cause itching irritation, please post here)

Personally I suspect a form of pinworm that is immune to modern medicine.

My advice to all of you is try using vaseline, washing everything, frequently, and re-applying the vaseline, never go a second without a thick layer of vaseline all over the anus and pernieum.

The parasite causes a yeast infection of the intestine, and both the parasite and yeast infection irritate the anus and pernium.

The vaseline seems to prevent the parasite from doing what its trying to do, and also the vaseline seems to stop the yeast from causing a secondary skin infection.

Hopefully this helps others, at least until our doctors wise up and start actually finding whats wrong with us, instead of blaming something else.

Like I said, I suspect a parasite, similar to pinworms, if not pinworms that are immune to our modern medications.

I have similar problems. I also get pinworms, (my wife never gets them, so I must be more susceptible) and as soon as I feel the pinching/crawling at the anus, which happens when I go to bed, I immediately take a dose of Combantrin. If I don't take the Combantrin, the dreaded nightly 'bites' will continue until I do take the Combantrin (Pyrantel Pamoate). If I do take Combantrin, there are no bites/crawling the following evening.
However, i often have itching of the anus even when there are no pinworm symptoms. I use vaseline, which usually helps quite a bit. If I bathe, rather than shower, it usually feels better.
Things improved quite a bit when I changed from Charmin toilet paper, but I still have the problem. I have wondered about some sort of parasite, and now have received a stool kit from my doctor, and next time I get the pinworm symptoms, I will submit a stool sample for analysis.

What is Combatrin? Is it prescription? I have used Vermox and Albenza.

Please let us know your test results. Although the last time I know I had pinworm (could see the worms), the test came back negatI've. The Dr said it doesn't always show up in stool. I've had positive and negative tests so I know what the symptoms are. The best thing you can try and do is as soon as you feel movement pat area with a colored Kleenex soaked in Vodka or some other cheap alcohol. Do not use rubbing alcohol, as it is toxic to the body. If it is pinworm you should be able to see them. Then have ready some scotch tape ( lay two or three pieces on top of one another). Then use sticky side to attach sample from Kleenex. Try to get a few samplea and put them in a small container like an empty pill bottle standing up. Submit this with your fecal test for a more accurate diagnosis.

Combatrin is an over-the-counter medication that contains pyrantel pamoate.

One more quick suggestion that I swear by. A natural OTC called Sarna. It contains many natural products that both moisturize and COOL the anus. It works wonders for many people with SIMPLE IRRITATION.

PS. if they find eosinophils in your colon YOU ARE ALLERGIC TO SOMETHING...... maybe a food, maybe a beverage, or maybe something entering your body via some other place. You can be allergic to ragweed and get a rash on your feet or your back. Allergies don't always follow a logical route.

Wow- I must say a HUGE thanks to you for your post. I also had the same issues but embarassingly I lived with the situation for at least 14 years. Honestly, I was resigned to the fact I'd live with the itching and scalling of my perineum for the rest of my life. I tried all of the over the counter options- hydrocorisone, jock-itch, and even yeast infection cream. When I read your post a light went off and I realized it most likely was a situation where itching was causing more itching and I had to break the cycle. I, like you, had tried to quit cold turkey at least a half-dozen times over the years but I eventually gave into the itchy feeling.
Once I read your post I tried a prescription stength anti-itch cream we had in our house (left over from a previous prescription given to my wife). Amazingly, I've been using the creme 2x day and after 10 days I'm close to saying I'm cured! I can't tell you how grateful I am. This condition hindered my life as after a serious scratch session I was very sore which made sitting, walking--everything I did was sore. I wasn't even sleeping well as it would cause me to scratch in my sleep. I'm now sleeping through the night and haven't scratched in 10 days! Doesn't seem like much but I haven't even had the urge to scratch and the skin on my perineum has healed and is back to normal.
Again, just wanted to say thanks for taking the time to post--made a huge difference in my life!

I just realized that my hemorrhoids got worse when I purchased a 24 pack of the Charmin double rolls. A woman in the store had mentioned that the Charmin created a lot of dust. This dust was staying on me and causing the itching. I now only use wipes. The Cottonelle wipes are the best but even the generic WalMart brand are fine. I also had someone tell me that the Costco (Kirkland) toilet paper was the best and didn't have all of the dust.

I too have suffered with this unbearably painful and itchy problem. I cured myself as many trips to my doctor had failed. All I can tell you is what worked wonders for me. I mixed coconut oil which is a natural anti fungal, along with boric acid. I got the boric acid from the drug store, and mixed about half of a capsule of that with the coconut oil in a sandwich bag, and cut the tip of the bag so I could squeeze the mixture into a small syringe which I inserted up in the anus. I did this for four nights before bed. Now, afterwards, the area around the outside did get red, so I mixed hydrocortisone and A&D ointment together and applied this to the outside as well as slightly inside. It took care of the soreness, and I haven't had the itch return. The boric acid also cured my yeast infection in no time. You need to get them both under control because they spread to both areas. Good luck!

Hey guys! Years of suffering was finally relieved by homeopathic treatment - go to a long-experienced homeopath for excellent results. Works every time. Then I investigated what was happening. Triggers: orange juice (burning/itching within an hour); sugar of any sort (except honey) and in any form; all made worse by stress, particularly work-related stress. CURE: two teaspoons of apple cider vinegar (made from the whole apple and with the "mother" still in the bottle) in a glass of water after every meal. Itching is caused by body becoming alkaline due, in my case, to too much consumption of carbs over the years. ACV returns the body to an acidic state and bingo! no more trouble. Also too many positive outcomes to list here.
Probably need to keep this up for months although I saw an improvement straight away but then I was an acute sufferer and had loaded in those carbs for years and years!
If you suffer at all in the meantime, I've found Savlon works a treat as well as the avoidance of all the items listed above and keeping squeaky clean and dry.
Here's wishing you speedy relief. xxxxx
