I had a problem with anal irritation for a long time. I had been eating a wholegrain cereal for a while and stopped eating it because I got bored with it. The irritation stopped, but I didn't associate this with not eating the cereal. I few weeks later I bought the cereal again, had a big bowlful and the next day, after going to the toilet, the irritation was back! It suddenly clicked that the two things might be associated, so I stopped having the cereal and the irritation went away again. It's one of those cereals that consists of little "pillows" of cereal with a fruit filling inside. I read somewhere that bran is quite hard and has sharp edges, so I'm thinking that must be the cause. It seems counterintuitive, when almost all the advice is to eat more fibre, but it really worked for me. I realise that there are probably lots of causes of this problem, but hopefully this post will help others.

I have the same symptoms for about three months now,it's so pain fill that I've had to take time off work. I finally went to the doctor today and he told me it is called fissures. I know the pain you are all in coz I'm in it too, go to the doc and ask him to provide treatment for fissures. The doctor told me it was most likely caused from my long trip overseas and the climate change, regardless of how it was caused I'm just glad I now have the right meds, holding thumbs they work.

I just recently started getting these problems 3 months ago right after i stopped taking my medication for my tooth, im telling you i DO NOT want to keep deeling with this . I have the problems even way before a BM and i just hate going to the bathroom because i no im going to be in so much pain afterwards , so much pain that i sometimes cant walk and just have to sit down . I would like to thank everyone that has posted some ways to help with this problem, i truly feel they well help until the permanent cure comes along . Also i think you guys should try taking a shower when you feel the pain and while your in the shower spread your buttox and let the warm water run down , it really makes a relief for me .

Ps. I Hope everyone that goes through this gets better ! the discomfort is just hard to bear.

Hello,
I was googling some of my symptoms this past weekend, and I found this forum. I too, like many of you have had quite a discomfort in the perineum area, accompanied by swelling, some itching and a little bit of burning, which was stronger after bowel movement. I also realized that lukewarm water made the area worse, as opposed to cold water. Since this was a holiday weekend in my country, I couldn't reach my regular gynecologist, so I went today. She told me that is actually is a type of hemorrhoid (an outside one- I don't know whether this is the professional term for it in English, but this type does not bleed out much or at all, and can go away quite efficiently with treatment). I am sharing this with you so that maybe someone will find an answer to their symptoms. Age (apparently) does not matter much since I am 23, it could be just as well genetic. So I hope that someone would find this useful.
All my best

Charmin wipes are the only ones that don't irritate.

I have this same problem if I eat sugar of any quantity including fruits, especially ripe peaches or bananas or fruit smoothies.  When I cut waaaaay back on all sugar containing foods, the problems clears up.  Try omitting sugar and all other simple carbohydrates from your diet and see what happens.  I mostly follow the paleo diet, but we bought some excellent organic extra ripe peaches yesterday and I ate almost 2 yesterday and the problem is back today.  No more peaches for me I guess. :-)

First off I am so glad I found a forum that accurately describes what I am going through. Now I don't feel as embarrassed and alone about the situation because most people just sort of laugh and/or giggle because of the area. If they could only experience what this is like for a day they would know it is not very funny at all. When my symptoms are present I can hardly move and I can't sleep for more than 30 mins at time, and that is only after taking heavy sleep medication.

I started getting symptoms about three months ago after my 21st birthday, and I assumed it was due to excessive drinking of beer and alcohol. Now I have cut back on my "boozing" habits quite a bit though my symptoms still persist about once every month for 2 weeks. I have gone to the doctor and the ER a couple times but everything they have perscribed has only seemed to make things worse.

At First I tried everything to calm the fury that was taking place around my anus. So far the only thing I have found to alleviate my burning and itching is vagisil, and that is extremely embarrassing to go get because I am a 22 year old male.

Ive discovered alot of My issue is due to hormone levels, and letting a drug clear out of my system. Zoloft. the Depo can do this as well. Mine has Mostly stopped since starting Apple Cider Vinegar and Lugols Iodine. The itching when it does happen seems to be helped by A&D Ointment, and even Blistex. I Love Blistex lol. works great as a topical during things like Yeast or Herpies outbreaks. or any Irritation. tell a doctor about the Vagisil or even go see a GYN because Maybe They can tell you Why Vagisil works.... or as Embarrassing as it is, no one Knows why drugs do what they do Better then a Pharmacist... Ive had Them answer questions so called doctors are just Totally Inept on... or get a girl fried of your to go ask that question....

I have had the same issue for a few years now and I was prescribed an anti-yeast vaginal suppository (tetranozole?) and all of my symptoms disappeared for three weeks and then gradually came back. Diflucan did nothing so it is not candida albicans but some other form of yeast not treated by a standard over the counter medication.I know the solution but my doctor refuses to prescribe any more for me saying that I need to let my natural flora come back normally. Thinking of trying a different doctor.

could be bacterial? you cant get rebalanced if you dont get the flora put back... Id say get a new doctor as well... mine has gone away after 2 months now? on Lugols Iodine....

Ive also started on Oil of Oregano gel caps, Royal Jelly, and Living Harvest Hemp Protine Tempt Powder. the latter is supposed to straighten out my guts with my brains and correct me... might also be great for a weight loss shake, as when I have a small glass of it Im not hungry again til 6hrs or so later?

Nope, not bacterial because it always gets much worse after a round of antibiotics. Tried oil of oregano, extensive probiotics and all of the candida cleanses etc. I was diagnosed with IBS because of the symptoms but the tetrazole got rid of that (loose stools etc) as well, which was causing the splitting (added benefit of non existent menstral cramps that month as well- from having to spend the day in bed because of them to non-existent are pretty spectacular results). Also seems certain (many) foods trigger it. I am gluten free already, now trying soy and dairy free but no luck.

Have you ever or recently taken any Fluoroquinolones such as Cipro, Levaquin, Floxin,or Avelox? they are common ones .... I almost wonder if this could be yet another result of these Highly Toxic and Dangerous Antibiotics...

This mostly sounds like what I am currently going through, but I was wondering if when you started burning down there, if it happened after you had a BM like it does with me?
