Mike,
By any chance do you have hypospadias?

No hypospadias here. Not sure how thay could cause this.

Mike,
Have you had a cytoscopy done?
Reply
Could it be a urinary tract infection? I just bought some UTI test strips and tested positive for nitrite in my urine. However on the labs my doctor performs on me, it shows there is no Nitrite present. Wierd.

As a matter of fact, I had one before this problem started years ago. I saw a thread years ago from a young guy whose problems with this condition started RIGHT AFTER his cystoscopy.

Interesting, I wonder why they were using a cystoscopy on him prior to this happening. It could have been the cystoscopy. Or an underlying problem could have caused this. Do you remember the name of the thread? I am very curious to read about his experience.

Would really like for someone to let me know if they have had a cystoscopy done AFTER this condition appeared. The reason why I can't get one is because I have hypospadias and therefore, the hole is too small for the cystoscopy procedure. Would extremely appreciate it if I could rule out any bladder problems or cancers. But evidently, based on other posts, it is clear it isn't really a condition related to cancer and doesn't even seem to be deadly. Otherwise those people who have had it for 7 years and up would most likely not be living anymore. However, I would like to rule this out.

A number of months ago, I was given permission by Steady Health to leave my email address up on the site. I have SRPE and I would and I am gathering information about people and their history. Therefore I have a questionnare I can send you.

My email for this is _[removed]_

Please Steady Health if there are problems with this, be in contact with me and we will discuss. My motivation is to publish information on SRPE which is rare and many urologists and doctor's do not know about it.

Thanks,

Neff here.

I have had the condition for 2 years now. One day I felt a weird numbing feeling in the scrotum and about 3 days later I started having these sleep erections typically when I lay flat on my back. The erection goes away and back to normal once I sit up or get up after 2 min or so.

(Went to urologist)
My urologist had no idea what I'm talking about when I describe the symptoms. Suggested I take baclofin I quickly declined that offer. He also suggested it was all in my head and said it was a good problem to have after thinking it was humorous.

(I then went and Tried different sleeping approaches)

Eventually sleeping on my stomach helped but then that stopped helping.

I then tried sleeping sitting up which allows me to be symptoms free but not a very practical way to sleeping.

Tried sleeping with jock strap which pulled up my scrotum at night which helped temporarily 3 or 4 days.

Tried natural hops to induce better sleep which helped 2-3 days while sleeping with my legs propped up. Again not very practical for years on end.

Tried sleeping with sleep apnea mask. Didn't help at all.

Tried sleeping on my sides with a pillow tucked between my knees which helped me very rarely have a good nights sleep.

Got a Fitbit to track my sleep at night and heart rate at night for 9 months and it said I wake up often during the night ( which is obvious) but also told me I average 3-4 hours a night due to the full erections at night.

I started to notice that after a masturbation session the symptoms was always 100% present that night. So I wanted to see what would happen if I stopped mastubating.

Symptoms= full erection at night w frequent breaks in sleep.

First 7 days w/o masturbating- symptoms at night everyday.

8-14 days w/o masturation- symptoms at night 4 days

15-21 days w/o masturbation- symptoms at night 3 days.

At 28 days I'll let u know.

Stopping my habits hasn't been easy at all but it's a challenge many men have and GOD is def helping me. He Could be using this as a way to help me get rid of a bad habit but clearly it's getting better.

Anyone else willing to take the challenge to stop mastubating to see if that's the cause and report your findings?

Wow. This one resonates a lot with me. Since about age 15 I would say I have masturbated or had sex daily and I'm 41. I wonder if others with this issue have such a high sex drive or propensity for the habit. I'm going to try abstaining (masturbation) - have to keep sex on agenda with my wife :). Will report my results as well. Could be that masturbation may be leading to increased tension in pelvic area.

Neff,
What do you mean by "symptoms at night 4 days", does this mean you're not experiencing the erections AT ALL during 3 nights a week without 2 weeks of masturbation? I also have a masturbation problem. Probably do it 2-3 times a day.

Neff,
I'm glad more people are abstaining ! And yes That's exactly right. That week was three nights without it. The following week was four nights without.

In my case, and I am talking with over 15 years of experiencing PSQ due to erections at night, I can say with complete confidence, that sexual activity is not related to my condition. Over 15 years, there has been variance in sexual activity
to daily sex or masturbation, to a month or more without any sexuall experience, and there has been absolutely no correlation. I feel there is a lot of evidence that night erections during sleep are not related to the process that makes one erect for sex, but is a reflex (do a search for morning wood on Science FACTion Show). For whatever reason, whether it is how our bladder is positioned next to the nerve that causes reflex erections, or something spinal, I don't know, but for me, I have clear evidence it is not related to sexual activity. If you believe that it is for yourself, I would like to know more of the evidence that makes you think it is and why you feel more sex would make more nighttime erections. It would seem that it would be just the opposite.

I'm not here to convince you. I'm here to tell you what I have noticed through my experience.

In my case, giving up masturbation was one of the first things I tried early on. I went about 2 - 3 months without masturbating but unfortunately it made no difference whatsoever. Also ended up with a few "sticky" dreams.

I'm still pretty convinced that there's a correlation between lower back pain or stomach gas and the erections. I've been getting them more frequently again recently (I seem to go through cycles throughout the year, sometimes it's every night, sometimes it's every other day or two) and noticed that I always have an uncomfortable amount of gas in my stomach in the mornings.
