this is not true. those same studies found that babies from non pot smoking mothers ALSO had the same chances. it was bs... no one has been allowed to actually test what marijuana does to anyone. but we DO know its medicinal.
I have a healthy 4 year old boy who is way ahead of his peers in every way a little genius! I fell pregnant unexpectedly ie was unplanned I enjoyed smoking weed at the time, I have to admit I smoked throughout my whole pregnancy as i thought giving it up would stress me out more. Im not proud of it but can say it had absolutely no negative effect on my child thank God!
I know tons of people are going to harp on you for smoking while you are pregnant but I would like to tell you that there are some studies done in Jamaica (because they cant do it in the US because weed is illegal here) the studies showed that the babies were not harmed from moms smoking daily. The study actually told them that babies who were introduced to weed while in the womb were easier babies to take care of, not as fussy and not ADD or ADHD like some of the babies whos mothers did not smoke while pregnant. Here is the link so you can read more about it. Also, I smoked with my son it helped with morning sickness otherwise I would have never ate and just puked my guts out. It also helped with heartburn which made me puke. My baby boy is extremely smart and sooo healthy, he was even a little preemie. Not because of the weed but because it runs in my family, my mother gave birth to me at only 30 weeks pregnant. I gave birth to him 3 weeks early and allot of preemies wouldnt be able to latch on their moms breast or breath on their own and are known to have lots of problems. My baby was perfect!! the only thing he had was a little jaundice and now he is 3 weeks old and very healthy!! the doctor said he is above what he should be and doesnt have any problems at all. Just some things to think about. I did quit smoking a week before I had him trying to make sure my milk was clean and I will not be smoking for the year while I breast feed which has been proven to be much worse then smoking while they are in the womb because the breast milk can literally get him high. When he is in the womb he can not get high because the fat in your body absorbs so much of the THC and so does your blood. I have done allot of research on this subject. But if you give the baby formula you shouldnt have to worry about smoking, just make sure your not to high to take care of baby. Smoking does not make you hallucinate or anything like that like other drugs do, it is much more natural than smoking cigarettes. Nicatine has been proven to be much worse for baby than weed and I know mothers who smoke a pack a day while they are pregnant.

This is a study in Jamaica that a DOCTOR did to prove how marijuana is not harmful for the fetus.
Cigarettes and Nicotine are MUCH worse for a baby in the womb and women who breast feed yet people do this all the time.
what if you have reumatoid arthritis ??? My OBGYN and my regular doctor are trying to proscribe me Prednaisone or vicodine... both have chemicals in it harsher than marijuana.. medicinal marijuana... Im in the most pain ive been in a while to the point where i cant lift my blanket or open door because im off all meds. My doctor suggested that i go back to smoking my medicinal marijuana in my second trimester if it does not look up, so i what do you think about that? i feel where your comming from in regaurds to woman cant go with out it for 9 months but in some cases i think it might be a must.. im just saying
I LOVE DR MELANIE DREHER!! <3 He studies are revolutionary!!!
if an adult can get cottage cheese brain from prolonged marijuana use what do you think it is going to do to the unborn child who's brain is steadily developing when its mother is smoking? DERP!
I think u should shut the f**k up!!! A lot of people in this day and age smoke cannabis!! I no plenty of mums that smoked during pregnancy and didn't harm the baby.. So keep ur negative thoughts to urself!! How do people on this site no u dont drink during ur pregnancy???? THEY DONT!!!! At the end of the day if u DONT smoke CANNABIS DONT POST UR THOUGHTS AS U DONT NO THE SITUATION!!!!!
this is so sweet and sincere.
"Neither exposure to cigarette nor marijuana smoke has evidence for teratogenicity, but both have been implicated in developmental and hyperactivity disorders in children. Pregnant women should be counseled on the risk of both cigarette and marijuana smoking." Clinical Obstetrics & Gynecology: March 2013 - Volume 56 - Issue 1 - p 107–113 doi: 10.1097/GRF.0b013e318282377d Substance Abuse and Pregnancy
Opinions are great but get some facts before you put your child in danger. And just because scientists have not found the exact effects of marijuana on a baby do you really want to take that risk? The brain is complex and delicate part of your body that controls everything about you. A fetus brain is more fragile than any other if the brain is effected in a negative way it can lead to all kinds of mental, emotional, and physical disorders. I’m not trying to judge anyone but please put your child above your own needs.
what if the wife got pregnant and wat is gonna happen to her son ?
Melanie Dreher, who is the dean of nursing at Rush Medical Center in Chicago, did a study in Jamaica. It was actually published in the American Journal of Pediatrics in 1994, but now it’s re-circulating because of all the interest in the neuroprotective properties.
Basically, she studied women during their entire pregnancy, and then studied the babies about a year after birth. And what she studied was a group of women who did smoke cannabis during pregnancy and those who didn’t. She expected to see a difference in the babies as far as birth weight and neuro tests, but there was no difference whatsoever. The differences that the researchers did notice, that are unexplained and kind of curious are that the babies of the women who had smoked cannabis — and we’re talking about daily use during their pregnancy — socialized more quickly, made eye contact more quickly and were easier to engage.
We don’t know why this is so, but all the old saws of smoking during pregnancy will result in low birth weight did not show up — at least in the Jamaican study. In U.S. studies where we’ve seen a similar investigation, women have concurrently been abusing alcohol and other drugs as well.
