Today is the same. Still crazy pressure in my lower belly and rectum(could I say rectum any more? lol) Still bad lower back pain. My lower belly is the worst today then everything else. It hurts when I walk, cough, laugh push on it. Its not horrible pain but about a 7-8 on a pain scale of 1-10...I'd be happy for some Rx pain killer about now. So no constiption throughout these 2 days. No bleeding. I am eating ok...altho the first 24hrs I puked a few times. No real appetite but not pukey. Tylenol does nothing. If i sit straight on my butt it hurts and causes more pressure.
Anyone know what this could be? Is it something serious or not. I thought it was just bad gas at first...but this dosn't seem like bad gas...its different. The pain isn't like cramps. It does not come in waves like cramps. Its just a constant pain. And I am not constpated at all. I still go #2 in the moring and occasionally later in the day. Going #2 does not relieve the pain or pressure at all.
Thanks for any help.
Pressure and pain in rectum and lower stomach are common symptoms that could indicate many health problems, some of which are not serious or severe, while the others may require prompt medical attention.
Many describe this problem as a feeing of pressure/fullness on their rectal area or anus that may spread toward lower abdomen an even lower back.
I just woke up with the same symptoms I'm terrified my lower stomach hurts I feel nausea my lower back and rectum hurt like painfully what should I do?
The pressure and pain are usually followed with other discomforts such as bloating, gas, nausea, indigestion, dizziness, etc. People with this problem also reported trouble passing stool or even gas.
Pain severity and intensity may vary. Some describe it as stabbing or shooting pain, while others complain about dull pain located in their anus. For some, the pain comes and goes in waves at every few minutes, while for others the pain is constant.
Medications used to treat or relieve symptoms such as constipation, pain, pressure, or feeling of fullness sometimes didn't work, so doctors had to prescribe other, more invasive treatments. Despite the different manifestations of their pain, all participants in the discussion had the same question.
Is it something serious or not?
It is important to seek medical attention even if symptoms cause no more than mild discomfort. Early diagnosis of the problem could lead to more efficient treatment and better outcome.
What do experts say?
Pressure within your rectum is an uncomfortable and common problem that rarely indicate something serious. Often, this pressure results from a constipation or muscle spasms. Pressure might be accompanied with a rectal pain, which as well rarely indicates a serious condition, except if it lasts for days or if other symptoms are present, such as bleeding, nausea, vomiting, etc.
Symptoms
Symptoms may vary in its manifestation and severity. Most people experience pressure and/or in the rectal area and lower abdomen. Sometimes the feeling of pressure and pain may expand to the lower back area. Besides pressure an pain, people with this problem may experience other symptoms as well, such as:
- nausea
- weakness
- dizziness
- cramps
- sweating profusely
- painful urges to go to toilet
- painful bowel movements
- pain when walking, or sitting which force people to stay in bed usually in curled position
- pain when coughing or laughing
- vomiting
- heavier periods (for women)
- constipation
- feeling bloated
- flatulence (gas)
Possible causes
- Constipation is the symptom, as well as the most common cause of pressure and pain in rectum and lower stomach. Constipation is a condition that affects people of all ages in which there is difficulty in emptying the bowels. This usually occurs because the colon has absorbed too much water from the food that is in the colon, because of a low fibre diet, taking certain medications, such as pain killers, etc.
- Hemorrhoids, swollen veins in the lowest part of your rectum and anus, are another cause of pressure and pain in rectum and lower stomach.
- Toxic megacolon, the condition in which the colon is unable to remove gas or feces from the body, leading to a gas and feces build up in the colon, which may result in an infection, or in a rupture of a large intestine and release of intestinal bacteria into the abdomen. This can cause a serious infection and even death.
- Irritable bowel syndrome or IBS could be a cause for this problem.
- Diverticulitis is another possible cause for pain and pressure, which occurs when pouches in the wall of your colon become infected or inflamed. In more severe cases, it could be a prolapse of rectum causing pain and pressure.
- Sometimes the problem may not be cause by conditions that affect colon or rectum. For example, a urinary tract infection can cause these symptoms.
While mentioned conditions can affect both men and women, some of the conditions that can cause pain and pressure in rectum and lower stomach affects only females. These may include:
- Ruptured ovarian cyst - If an ovarian cyst ruptures it can cause inflammation all around abdominal cavity. It can cause more severe symptoms, including severe pain in the lower belly and bleeding.
- Pelvic inflammatory disease (PID) is an infection of the female reproductive organs, which usually occurs when sexually transmitted bacteria spread from a vagina to the uterus, fallopian tubes or ovaries. It's marked by pain in the abdomen, especially during urination or sex.
- Endometriosis occurs when the tissue that makes up the uterine lining (the lining of the womb) is present on other organs inside your body, such as the lower abdomen, pelvis, or anywhere else in the body. The symptoms may include painful bowel movements, lower back pain during your period, nausea, etc.
- Pressure and pain in rectum and lower stomach my also occur due to trauma caused by delivery (giving birth), especially if anal muscle is affected.
Diagnosis
Physical exam and colonoscopy are tests that would be usually recommended in order to reveal the possible cause. Other tests may also be included, such as:
- urine sample
- blood tests
- MRI
- CT scan
- ultrasound
- laparoscopy
- x-ray
Treatment
Treatment of pain and pressure in rectum and lower stomach depends on the cause. The most common options may include:
- Antibiotics - These medications are used in case of the bacterial infection, such as diverticulitis, PID, UTI, etc.
- Painkillers - Medications to help alleviate the pain, such as Tylenol, can be used as well, although they rarely provide relief. Moreover, they could cause constipation and further aggravate the symptoms.
- OTC laxatives and purgatives to relieve the constipation, such as MiraLAX, Senna or magnesium citrate.
- Bentyl (dicyclomine) is used to treat a certain type of intestinal problem called irritable bowel syndrome.
- Simethicone is an over-the-counter (OTC) drug that treats symptoms of flatulence (gas), which may include painful pressure, fullness, and bloating.
- NSAIDs such as Ibuprofen could be helpful in case the pain and pressure are caused by inflammation
- Antacids are over-the-counter medications that help neutralize stomach acid and relieve heartburn, indigestion or an upset stomach.
- In case of more severe symptoms and cause, the surgery may be an option.

- I was told this exact thing by my doctor when I was younger and suffering severe bouts of constipation ending with severe nausea, sweats, dizziness, vomiting brown "tobacco" looking substance and screaming in agony (I was age 7-15 for these bouts) when constipation lasts long enough it WILL back up into the stomach where it is most definitely absorbed into the bloodstream.

- This is not fear mongering this is what medical professionals are diagnosing.
- Happened to me but my lg intestine ruptured.
- Mine usually end up being ovarian cysts rupturing causing inflammation all around abdominal cavity.
- An ultrasound will show "free flowing fluid" and drs say that irritates another organs.
- I am currently having similar symptoms a dull pain in my anus pain in lower abdominal an in lower back plus feeling kinda bloated I am passing gas an when I go to #2 I am not at all constipated but of course I feel like I'm not finish an i sit an wait but nothing comes an this has been happening a while back but now it's more frequent I also think I have anal fissures d last time I saw d doctor less than 2 weeks ago he gave me omerpozole but it's not helping d symptoms.

- Same exact thing and I ended up having my LG intestines removed at 28.
- Mine was detected on a ct then a colonoscopy afterwards.
- Surgery is absolutely the most painful thing ever went through.
- Pure hell.
What helped relieve symptoms?
- I was Prescribed antibiotics and it seemed to clear up after a little while.
- Have not had this problem since I went on the estrogen.
- i found the only thing that helped was just staying extremely still.
- The only relief is heat, and release as much bowel as possible.
- Riding for a long period of time agitates this as well.
- Laying on my stomach helps even though the pain is excruciating it helps a great deal, also laying in the fetal position with you knees on the bed until you can't bare anymore then to the side.
- A big factor is going to the bathroom you HAVE to make sure you put your back half of your butt on the back of the toilet seat (like your butt bone area) rest it there just enough to where you can feel the pressure a little but it will help to go ahead and ease the pain of getting your bowels out to ease the overall pain.
In conclusion
Pressure and pain around rectal area are common and uncomfortable symptoms that usually indicate nothing serious. However, it is important to check any pain and discomfort that last longer that several days wit your doctor, especially if it's accompanied with other symptoms.
