I have this same problem. For me it started when I was around 16 and I am now in my twenties. It has been causing some serious problems for me. One thing that I did for a while was culturelle, I would take one before class and that worked real well for about 5 months (it didn’t stop the problem it just quited it down .) Then it started again. I also tried align, which helped a little. Right now I am currently trying the eat right for your type diet. It sugest what foods you should eat based on your blood type. This is my first day but I noticed by eating some of the things it suggested (im blood type O so that means more protein) and taking out some of the things it said were bad for me my stomach isn’t nearly as loud as it was. The noises are still there but not as crazy. I have also made apt with my doctor and hopefully I can get a referral to talk to a specialist and make sure I don’t have any parasites.
I’ll keep posting if I have anymore info. AND good luck. I know what a problem this can be.
Hello,
I have been dealing with stomach gurgling issues for a while now. I'm 33 and I can say that it's gotten worse in the last couple of years. It was initially happening at night, and seemed to coincide with drinking coffee in the evening. I stopped this and was only minimally better - something was still affecting me. After many uncomfortable nights, I think that my issues might be related to lactic acid intolerance that I've developed over the years, which sucks because I love cheese/milk/yogurt/ice cream/etc. I've cut dairy from my diet for the last few days and have been worlds better. Last night I had a baked potato with cheese, butter and sour cream, along with some buttered bread and I had my first gurgling attack (although minor compared to what it had been) in days. I am going to stay away from dairy for a while and then eat a bunch of it to see what happens. But I think that this might be the source of my issue. Could be worth looking into. Try to avoid dairy and if you feel better, get yourself some Lactaid pills to see if they help. Good luck.
hey everyone! it is a bit comforting to hear that so many people are going through the same thing that i am. i'm a high school senior now, and my intestinal gurgling began a year ago. i was taking the SATs when, my stomach took me by surprise in a grand uproar. it sounds like farting noises, only that they aren't farts. my intestines churn and vibrate even at times. i'm anxious all of the time because of it, and when these noises due occur (which is mostly at school) i get so anxious: my heart starts beating uncontrollably and my mind is so full, i feel like fainting many times.
i have seen a doctor, and she is convinced that stress is causing the problem. although i think stress does worsen the problem significantly, i feel that there must be something physically wrong with my digestive tract. i've tried gas pills, and they have not worked. what has worked is tea. i drink tea about 15 times a day. i only drink tea nowadays, and this seems to have significantly improved the issue.
i sympathize with every single one of you. i wish you all the best. i know how emotionally hard this issue can be, as this issue did put me into a bit of a depression last year. i advise every single one of you to be happy. embrace the noises. some people may look at you weird, but understand, that they don't know what you are going through. don't beat yourself up over something you cannot control. and come on, what is the worst that can happen? most people are understanding anyways, and you deserve to live your life. anyone who may make fun of you, or give you a weird look over a simple issue isn't worth your worries. try laughing at yourself when it happens.
I have such bad anxiety because of my stomach issue. I have tried everything. It makes me want to abandon my studies, its so bad. I only have three more weeks left of undergrad and then Im done. I am so sick of being mortified by this issue. NOTHING works. Everyone tells me that its in my head or Im stressed or Im hungry or I should take a laxatives. Doctors dont understand, all they are concerned with is the fact that there isn't a great amount of pain. Id rather take the pain, atleast no one in my quiet classrooms can tell that Im in pain. Now that I think about it, I have always had really bad stomach cramps, because of gas. Now I have that coupled with the embarassing stomach gurgling and growling. I wish someone could give me an answer. I broke out into a cold sweat twice last week becasue I was fearful of my stomach noises getting worse in class. Its been over a week and I don't think that it has ever lasted this long. I thought that it would go away with my period but it hasn't (sometimes it does). The Prilosec that I am taking to reduce stomach acid isn't helping and I am beginning to get these bad pains in the lower abdomen, perhaps from attempting to empty my colon so much. I cry often about my anxiety and stomach issues. I wish that I was finished with school so that I wouldn't have to deal with the quietness of the rooms anymore. I hate my body. I dread the coming weeks because finals are coming. I suppose that I will attempt to finish the exams as fast as I can.
I feel for EVERYONE. I too have been suffering from the stomach gurglings for years. I remember sitting in my seventh grade history class and that was when I first heard my stomach making the weirdest and embarrassing noises. Now, I'm 30 years old and it's only gotten much worse. I remember in high school, it was devastating. I didn't go to alot of my classes because the embarassment caused me so much anxiety. I barely graduated high school. I let this take over my life so much that I have turned down so, so many great jobs because I cannot be in a quiet office or anywhere that is quiet. My husband and I decided that no matter what, I was going to return to school last year, and the noises have not let up, and it's my old middle school/high school days all over again. I don't have health insurance to figure out what's wrong with me but the one time that I was able to see a doctor, she told me to try and avoid gluten products and that it might be my lactose intolerance and to stay away from dairy foods. NONE OF THAT HELPED.
When I try to talk to people about it,(husband, instructors, friends) they all tell me the same thing which is to "just ignore it" and "no one cares if they hear it". At times, it can be depressing, especially when I haven't met anyone else who seems to know what it's like to have these noises completely ruin your life. Sadly, my 8 year old son is telling me that his tummy has started to make noises in class and that's why he is constantly getting up during class to walk around. If anyone has any explanation and can offer any type of help with getting rid of the noises, PLEASE LET ME KNOW...:-)
AAAAAAAaaanyways... I believe there's about to be a happy ending to this story :-D. After searching my symptoms online (gassy, bloating, gurgling) I landed on many sites that referred to candida. Candida (aka "bad" bacteria) lives in everyone's stomach, mouth and genitals and usually lives happily alongside all the good bacteria. But sometimes because of our diets, we get an overgrowth of candida... it overtakes the good bacteria and this imbalance can give us a ZILLION different ailments and symptoms like the one I described. After reading up on it, I am convinced that Candida overgrowth is what has been going on in my system. Especially because I also have a yeast infection, which I thought was totally unrelated to my stomach problems, and apparently that's one of the top ailments caused by Candida overgrowth.
SO... I'm trying out an "Anti-Candida Diet" to try and balance the good vs bad bacteria in my system and get everything back under control. I MUST get rid of this indigestion, gurgling, gas, bloating, yeast infection, etc. And let me tell you... It's almost 11pm at night, today is only the FIRST day that I've been eating with this Anti-Candida Diet and I've ALREADY noticed WAY less upsetting symptoms and noise from my stomach! The diet is very, very strict (especially hard for me because I don't eat meat), but apparently you won't have to eat this way forever. You just need to starve the Candida by not feeding it what it wants and needs to multiply, and when a significant number of them die off, you can slowly re-introduce those foods again.
The list of food dos and dont's on the Anti-Candida Diet is HUGE, but basically, you MUST eliminate all sugars (refined, raw, organic, maple syrups, honey, even FRUIT sugars. NO Sugar at all!), no flours or grains (except buckwheat, quinoa and a few others), no beans, no fruits, etc. ***this post is edited by moderator *** *** web addresses not allowed***
I really hope at least some of few find some solace through this information. It hasn't even been 24 hours and I'm already feeling the benefits. I pray that this is truly the solution and that I'm on the road to having a healthy, happy, flat and quiet stomach :-D.
Good luck! You are not alone!
xox,

Taking antibiotics will exacerbate the problem so unless you are severely ill I wouldn't recommend taking them. Your body is designed to fight the flu, strep throat etc.. and taking antibiotics only weakens your immune system and kills the good bacteria in your body.
I do not get flu shots either, but that is a personal choice.
So if you are suffering from borborygmi try avoiding medications, taking only supplements, including probiotics and Vit C and go on a no carb, no sugar, no sweetener diet. You must to this for at least 2 months. If you see improvement then you can look into Candida treatments such as grapefruit seed extract, coconut oil and Pau D'Arco.
I have this problem at the moment and have had it for a number of years now, I found that psyllium husk and high fibre stopped the noise but gave me a lot of gas, to the point that I coulnd't deal with it. I have had to stop taking these and now have the noises again, the doctor has prescribed movicol as a stool softener but that seems to make the noises worse. I have been diagnosed with IBS-C. I am going to try simethicone which should reduce the gas but I'm not too hopeful of this fixing the noises. I have training at work next week and have spent the weekend dreading going into work because I'm going to be in a quiet room. I feel like I am running out of treatment options but I'm going to give the olive oil a go and see if that helps any. Good luck everyone with each of your individual battles with this. If anyone has any experience of things that they have tried and have had any success please share.
