My husband just woke up in hospital after TURP procedure. His doctor, like the others would I suppose, said that recovery is individual so he can not tell us any details!? He is in his bed now with the catheter in his penis, and he has got some pain killer medication. Anyhow I was hoping that I will get some information here. Thanks.

The initial recovery period of approx. 7 days will include some pain, especially if he, like me, accidentally gets up while standing on your urine bag. However, mainly it's the uncomfortableness of having the tube in your penis with the accompanying extra tube and bag. There will be declining pain when urinating due to the urinary canal distress, as well as dealing with the spastic convulsions of bladder and prostate responding to the changes. I was also I couple of weeks on pain killers after TURP.

I had the TURP procedure 1 week ago, and am doing OK except for painful urination. However, I have been told that full recovery is measured in months.

I am 60. Had been on Flomax for about 5 years. Symptoms regarding difficulty urinating were getting worse, the doc put me on a double dose, and recommended a surgeon for me and said I was the perfect candidate for this procedure.

I went to see the surgeon, about 45 years old, which I like, because at that age, he has enough experience, and his hands are still steady.

I signed up! He used the new laser evaporation system, which does NOT use cutting tools. It evaporates the cells without every touching them. I have seen the machine on line, I cannot remember the name.

I felt fine, took the catheter out the next day.. That and the next two days of peeing were the worst part of the whole procedure. Not bad. Just quite uncomfortable for a bit.

I had MINOR bleeding for about two days, and since, NOT ONE PROBLEM. I think part of that has to do with the artistic skill and aggressiveness of the surgeon's procedure. They'll take into consideration your age, size of gland, etc.

I actually went back to work two days after the procedure with NO issues. I had a lot of trouble finding information about sex after the procedure because no one wants to take responsibility for what you might do, based on their advice. I found an article that gave time frames for that. This green light procedure was given a 3-4 week window, based the patient's condition, age, aggressiveness of surgery, skill of surgeon, etc etc etc. I have felt perfectly fine since day two. Other procedures can make you wait as long as 8 weeks. Some say it'll be a year before COMPLETE recovery. WTF does that mean....?....They don't say.

Today is 3 weeks after the surgery, had sex this morning, and no problems. No blood, no pain, etc.

Here is my advice: USE THE MOST RECENT AND MODERN PROCEDURES. This thing WORKS. I pee like a "race horse", no constipation that some complain about (but I eat a lot of fiber in my old age, anyway) and sex after 3 weeks.

I am in Wisconsin, if you want this highly skilled surgeon's name or want to talk about the procedure, etc. , contact me at usa_11bravo at yahoo.

I am 65 years old and had the turp procedure done and at the same time had an orange sized stone removed from my bladder, I had the catheter in for 18 hours and the bladder flush procedure during that time. I had operation 3 days ago. I have not had any pain what so ever. The only small discomfort is some burning when urinating. Must say I think I had a pretty good surgeon.

Do you ejaculate normally after the TURP procedure? My husband is having it tomorrow and is worried about that.

my 58 year old husband just had turp. The catheter was removed after 48 hours and he is back to work. We live in Ghana, when his friends were told about the turp procedure being done in Ghana, they could not believe it. Ghana has formidable medical doctors, who are dedicated to what they do. The turp was done by the head of the urology department and his team.

He hadTURP and I guess that was the traditional way done. but it's been 7 mos. now that he's unaible to pee on his own. He's on catheter always. Do you know of any herb to help him pee again?

I am 52 years old. I had the TURP 12 days ago. I was in the hospital over night. Went home the next day at noon. They took the catherter out at noon and my doc said I could go home as long as I was able to void on my own and my "bladder scan" showed I was emptying my bladder sufficently. I did fine. I went home w/o the catheter. I can tell you one thing that your husband needs to do that I know helped me; drink a lot of water. I drank 800 cc every hour at least. I was voiding 300-400 cc every 30-40 minutes too. FLUSH it out. I drank a lot of water after the surgery because my doctor told me to. He told me that I will have blood in the urine (hematurea) off and on for 2-3 weeks. So far it is going textbook. Urination burned and hurt for about 5 days post. I never needed the pain pills he prescribed but the the day of surgery, all night and the day after I did. I did not have enough pain to need the pain medication after I went home; it only burned when I urinated. I had a few clots in my urine every other day or so; doc said I would. The burning was pretty much gone by post op day 8. Now at 12 days post I can really tell the difference in my stream. Very happy with the result. My doc said to avoid sex activity for 4-6 weeks and definitely as long as there was blood in my urine. I've woke up with "morning wood" several times so I know "it" still works but it is very uncomfortable. My wife and I cuddle a lot and she lets me fondle her to maintain closeness during this time. I see blood during the iniitial urine stream then it is gone. I had the surgery because of a weak streamand it took forever to go and I was going 6-7 times a day. It is nice to only take 20-30 seconds to pee now. I don't have the urgency as much now. Doc said the urgency will slowly go away as the bladder and prostate tissue settle down; everything is pretty inflamed post op due to the surgery. I hope this helps.

No, you do not ejaculate anything anymore after turp procedure, the feeling of ogasm is less, and the semen flows back in to your bladder, you wil never see him ejaculate again, turp is a real mankiller.

Yesterday my catheter came off and I peed enough to fill 1 liter so they sent me home. After the initial relief my hopes dropped when I had a very uncomfortable night having to get up numerous times and experiencing pain and disfficulty. Today its been more of the same but from what I read and hear it seems to be the pattern as your uretra heals. Got to keep the faith! Hope this helps
