I have had this for the last 3 cycles gone to my doctor she seems to have no concern did mention the Hemroids as well but I am going to get 2nd opinion, but reading your comments I beleive this seems to sound like what it is thank you for posting. ( FYI I am clearly bleeding from rectum not just wiping incorrectly, and the bleeding is fairly heavy. I too have Real low Iron and Dr. has gotten very concerned with that moreso then my bleeding my Iron legal last month was 7. Good luck to you all FYI my age is just turned 46, prementapausal.
I suffered with constipation and tummy issues, but still never bled at any other time despite being constipated at other times. I had a flexible sigmoidoscopy which found an irritiation but the biopsy revealed nothing. I have a small external hemorrhoid but there was no mention of internal hemorrhoids and no clue given to why I was bleeding. Having ruled out anything sinister I was diagnosed with IBS. I started watching what I ate (white carbs being a no no) and improved my symptoms, but still had the rectal bleeding during my period.
Then I got pregnant and never bled all the way through pregnancy, I breastfed so my periods came back when my daughter was 11 months, due to trying for another baby I've remained off the pill, and it's now about 6 months since my periods came back and the last two periods I've started having the rectal bleeding again. Same again, only during my period. I've been on a diet trying to lose the baby weight so I've been eating healthier than ever, and I think because of that I'm not experiencing the pain I used to.
There's a part of me that thinks it could be endo, but the doctors always wave that off. They seem convinced it hemorrhoids, the reason I doubt it is because I have had the hemorrhoid bleed and when it does it's proper blood like I've cut myself. The bleeding I have during my period looks the same as my period blood, more pinky. I think my next step now is to try and increase my water intake and take Fybogel just before and during my period and see if that helps. But I did that before my pregnancy and it made no difference.
I have had rectal bleeding for 12 years now, since I was 18. My period started at 12. I only have the rectal bleeding during my cycle which has always been irregular. About 6 years ago I also started having oral bleeding, also only during my cycle. I have had numerous tests, colonoscopy, sigmoidoscopy, CT scans, ultrasounds, etc. Everything has come back "normal". The doctors haven't even found hemmorids. I was diagnosed with PCOS (Poly Cystic Ovary Syndrome) and have had to do IVF to have children. I have two children, my oldest is 3.5 and my baby is 12 weeks old. I bled for 6 weeks after he was born, all 6 weeks I had rectal bleeding as well. Since then my "cycle" has been 7 days apart. I am on a week, off a week with rectal bleeding and oral bleeding starting a few days before the vaginal bleeding. I called my OB who delivered my baby and the nurse told me that they only do babies so I have had to find a new OB. I went to her last week and she was very concerned, (I think women usually are more than men). She thinks this is not endometreosis but rather a blood disorder. She also thinks that it could be hormone related. She said she wanted to put me on a birth control but was hesitant to give me estrogen so she wanted to have me use an IUD because it only has progesterone in it. I am VERY hesitant to try that because we have had infertility issues and have done IVF 4 times and have been blessed with two children. She is having me gather all of my 12+ years of records and is sending me to another specialist. She is requesting that I have a rectaloscopy during the time that I am having the rectal bleeding to determine where the bleeding is coming from. It could be next week if my pattern continues. I will keep you updated as to what they find or don't find. In the meantime has anyone else had the oral bleeding as well? It is getting quite annoying. My mouth constantly tastes of metal. I was relieved to find out that there are others that have these issues but I am sorry for the way that the doctors have treated a lot of you. I wonder how doctors get thru medical school these days.

I have had the rectal bleeding during my period for years. I had looked it up online when it started and saw several comments saying that it was normal. Well I have been trying to get pregnant for the last 2 years now with no luck so I started talking to my doctor about what the next step was and mentioned the rectal bleeding to her. She informed that it is NOT normal and that I need to go see a specialist. I have my first appointment tomorrow and I am sure that they are going to tell me that I need a colonoscopy. Once I find out what it is I will let you all know. I honestly don’t think that it’s nothing. I am worried that it is causing a problem with me trying to get pregnant. Did anyone else have any problems getting pregnant while having this issue other than the last person that commented?
I am also in Australia but aged 55 and post-menopausal. About 2.5 years ago, I had rectal bleeding around the time of my period for five consecutive months. The first time it occurred, I had no idea what was wrong but when it happened the second time, I did some research and discovered intestinal endometriosis. I went to my then GP and told him about the bleeding and that I believed I had intestinal endometriosis. Without making eye contact, he stood up and left the office, after which his nurse came in and said "Just come into the examination room and doctor will have a look at your haemorrhoid." Through tears of frustration, I told her that I know my own body and was sure that I didn't have a haemorrhoid. I paid for the consultation, left the premises and never saw that doctor again. I also never sought another opinion about my bleeding. I subsequently went through menopause about six months later and had no more bleeding, either PV or PR. Until now.
I have had rectal bleeding (including clots) now every day for two weeks but no other bowel symptoms. I delayed seeking medical attention as I was hoping it would stop but it didn't and by the time I saw a GP (male and not my usual doctor) I felt light-headed from the blood loss. As soon as I mentioned "rectal bleeding" the doctor briefly examined me and told me that I had an anal fissure, even though I had no pain. He then informed me that I would need to see a colorectal surgeon for a colonoscopy. I tried several times to explain that I also had mild period type pain and low back pain but he wasn't interested. He said "We'll deal with the bleeding first and then we'll deal with the other issues." I told him that I believed the other symptoms were related to the bleeding.
As he was writing my referral letter, I informed him that I work as a secretary for three colorectal surgeons and his attitude changed dramatically; he obviously realised that I knew the symptoms of anal fissures, particularly that they are painful. He took me back to the examination table and carefully palpated my abdomen and asked questions. He then asked if I was anxious, as my pulse was racing. I know now that this is a symptom of blood loss, as is my extreme thirst. I then told him about my previous episodes of rectal bleeding and he asked if I'd had investigations. I told him that my GP believed it was due to a haemorrhoid and it was never investigated. Thankfully, he had some knowledge of intestinal endometriosis and has mentioned it as a possibility in my referral letter.
I am now awaiting the results of blood tests and have an appointment to see a colorectal surgeon in two weeks. After reading the posts on this site, I wonder how many others are affected and are being misdiagnosed. While I respect the qualifications of doctors, sometimes the patient knows more than they do; particularly if it is an uncommon condition. I believe there needs to be more education about this disease so that in future women can be correctly diagnosed and receive appropriate treatment.
So entrigued at all the views on this and mix of doctors responses to this. I have had anal bleeding only when on my mensus for a few years now but get no pains which made me question it less as well as trying to ignore it but lets face it it's not pleasent is it?! Now that I've been trying for a baby for nearly two years with no joys have started to question this. Thank you all for posting it is definitely time to go to my GP. Let you know what happens!

for the time being. My mouth has continued
to bleed spontaneously for the past month.
So for good or bad once again I am in limbo
as to what is going on. I am nursing so it

I think you may be anemic. The blood loss is making you weaker. You should consult a doctor about this.
I honestly don't think that it is no big deal. It's not a normal thing to bleed out of your rectum while menstruating. You're not going to go through most of your life without rectal bleeding then start one day out of the blue. I've a history of endometriosis as well as my mother. As a matter of fact I recently had the "menopause" discussion with her, scared because all of the woman on my mother's side has had a hysterectomy so I have no idea if early menopause is a possibility or not. My mother never had any pain with her endo but was so covered inside with it that she ended up losing part of her intestines. My sister and I have had very painful experiences with it and had a smaller amount than our mother. Pregnancy tends to clear it up. As I have, within the last three years, had my last child I am very concerned that his has started. I am afraid if it is endo returned (which my doctor has said is entirely possible as long as I have my uterus) that it has somehow invaded my colon. I already know that I am borderline anemic as I have recently been to my gynecologist. I'm not trying to scare anyone, but I know that I will be contacting my doctor's office as soon as possible. I do suggest that if this a problem for you that you track how often it occurs and that you take the documentation with you. I had to research this as this is new to me. Every time I have a bowel movement, my abdomen hurts and the toilet bowl is blood red and I am quite aware that it's not from my menstrual cycle as I have very light periods, even this time and I wipe them separately.
