I also have pain with every bowel movement during my period, and have had rectal bleeding for the last 20 years (only during period). I had a laparoscopy & hysteroscopy to check for endometriosis about 15 years ago which was negative. The doc put me on the pill which helped a lot to ease period pain but the rectal bleeding continued. About 3 years ago i stopped taking the pill to give my body a break from the synthetic hormones and moved onto chinese herbs. That helped for about a year, then my period pain started getting stronger again. I went for a colonoscopy about a year ago to check again for endometriosis, again it was negative. I felt so frustrated! Now i'm trying a hormone balancing herb called chaste tree which i'm hoping will improve my pain at least. If this doesn't work then i'm not sure where to turn next, but one thing i'm sure of is i wont give up, as severe period pain and rectal bleeding is definitely not normal.

I have had this same problem for 20 years. I had the mirena coil fitted four years ago whilst being checked for endo, the consultant told me I had a very small amount of of endo but not enough to diagnose me with the condition. The mirena stopped the anal bleeding whilst menstruating and my periods are very light now. Have bad acne with it though.

I've always had a little rectal bleeding and blood in my stool during my period.  I was even told in high school by my health teacher that it is perfectly normal. I've only learned recently that women are very worried by this.

This is obviously not normal.  I have had this issue for several years now.  My gynecologist told me that she has seen this before and to just "leave it alone and don't mess with it"  She has since retired.  When I use a tampon there is no rectal bleeding which leads me to believe that there HAS TO BE a small fistula somewhere between the vagina and the rectum.  I am seeing a new gynecologist next month and having a colonoscopy this month.  I will update  when I have results.  There is no way this is related to a hemorrhoid or endometriosis.

Has anyone found out why this rectal bleeding happening? I have the same problem :( My gyno doesnt have a clue, she wants me to see a GI. I dont think it is related ro GI, coz i bleed very little from there n only when i have my period, on those strongest days.

Hi. I have been looking for information online and thought i'd share my experience. I have been suffering with anal bleeding on my period for the last 3 years. Mine is not just bleeding it is an actual period which can be seen as chunks wrapped around my stools. The pain is so bad it makes me physically sick. Thankfully it only lasts for day 1/2 of period. My gyno has recommended laproscopy to confirm my diognosis but says it is more than likely endometriosis. The checks i have highlighted i have a rectoverted uterus which is directly under my bowel. I am not going on the pill as i am convinced it was the pill that wacked me out of sink in the first place...i am also not keen on laproscopy without trying other options first. I have been using chinese medicine for the last 6 months. I no longer have sickness and intense pain although i am still bleeding. The blood is red and thin instead of dark and lumpy though - i found this to be an unusual change and hopefully is a positive sign.

I have a similar problem for years now. This causes my hb to be low soon after menstruation and I always supposed to eat some food to regain my hb. I am very scared as I already get a blood transfusion once. My doctor tried to give some medicine but no change. I am also suffering from IBS so I am very confused and sometimes I think may be this causes my rectal mentrual bleeding.

Guys im 13 and i got my first period on the 16/07/2015
anyways i didnt get my second period until just a bit under a month afterwards. (13/8/2015)
so my second period lasted for 4 days and then i was like YAY ITS OVER!!!
And then i got my period AGAIN 4 days later...
But now when i go to the toilet to do a number 2 (because i feel so sick), i end up just bleeding into the toilet!?!?!
Its really confusing and scary but this has only been happening for 1 and a half days now.
What do i do!??!?!?!

Thank you so much for sharing this! I've had the same problem for years, and I've even had colonoscopys that were negative for any abnormalities. This is the only explanation that makes sense. Thank you!
