I had this to and couldn't stand when people tried to tell me it's from when I wiped. I would sometimes have to where a pad otherwise I would have a spot where it came out. Not long ago my friend went through nursing school and her professor spoke on this topic. I cannot remember the name, but it's basically a microscopic hole. She never believed me and was in shock when learning about it. It was never found on the many colonoscopies I had done. You are far from crazy, it really does happen, but sadly I cannot remember the name.

Wow, so glad I found this post. For the last 8 months I have rectal bleeding. First few months it was like bloody mucose in the stool then two months ago it was full blown blood coming out of my bum. And I know this because I ran to the bathroom thinking I had diarrhea I didn't take the tampon out cause I would have never made it if I would have taken the tampon out. And yes, it was a gush of blood, no stool in it. I went to the ER but they did nothing. Went to OB had two ultrasounds one showed cysts because I was ovulating and the next one showed scar tissue from the many cysts I've had over the 14 years having my period. I have extreme pain, diarrhea and vomiting when I have my period. There are also times that I'll pass out. Oh, I also went to get a colonoscopy too. They found nothing. No hemorrhoids, no polyps, no abnormalities. My OB told me to monitor my symptoms, which irks me. Month after month I have pain and sometimes, most times I leave work because of the pain. And she tells me to monitor my symptoms. I found another OB and I'm hoping he can give me some closure.

I had this problem of rectal bleeding since I was 11 when I first got my period. I thought it was normal up to 6 months ago when I found it..it isn't. Endometrious is the cause...I just had a total hysterectomy.. I'm 38. There is more to the story. Getting a laperscopic, hysterscopy and D&C before can confirm this plus if there is anything else. Hysterectomy best thing I've ever done outside some annoyance nothing compares to the pain.

So grateful to find I'm not alone!
My periods were awful from the start, when I was 10/11 years old. And I've had rectal bleeding about as long as I've had my period. No rectal pain with it, and it started out as such a small amount that I dismissed it as maybe it was being transferred there by wiping, or something like that. In the last 5 years it has gotten decidedly worse, and I''ve since been diagnosed with endometriosis, have had one massive growth the size of a grapefruit removed along with what was left of my right ovary. Things got better for a while, the rectal bleeding lessened, but didn't stop. I ended up with another large, very aggressive growth on my other ovary within 6 months, and after treatments of bio-identical hormones and lots of acupuncture, the growth seems to have died. I am no longer in pain, and my body is slowly returning to a more normal shape, but I still have cyclical rectal bleeding.
When I had the laproscopy done to remove the first growth, I was told that everything else looked fine, I must just have hemorroids. When the second growth developed I went for a colonoscopy to have things checked out, and they found nothing, not even a haemorrhoid. I still have no answers and am really frustrated.

No matter how scared you are you need to get it checked out. I am not saying this to scare you but I went months with weird bruising on my body come to find out that I had cirrhosis of the liver and needed a transplant. Don't wait. I am sorry that I waited so long to get myself checked out. This could've ended in death.

I have the same problem, and have since I got my period 22 years ago. I am 100% positive it isn't the direction I'm wiping and that I am most definitely bleeding rectally during my period. My butt is usually sore for days before I start bleeding, as well.

I had a colonoscopy where they didn't find anything, and they want me to have another during my period so they can figure it out. Everywhere I've read says endometriosis isn't detectable via colonoscopy, though, so I don't know what to do.

Would you like to post this "other site" so that woman can read it? They ended up here because they didn't find the answers on "another site." And you can clearly tell from the variety of results people have received from tests they had gotten at the time of their post that there are multiple different possibilities and some women may have one issue and others a different one, but many of their Dr's don't know what it is or where to begin. Therefore there probably isn't an "exact explanation" out there as there are many POSSIBLE things that this could be and most Dr's haven't even been able to determine what condition it is on a case by case scenario, so what makes you think all these woman with varying conditions can find the "exact explanation" for their unique situation on "another site." Woman come here to try to find information from other people who have had similar symptom and similar responses from Dr's to find out if there are other options to try and investigate. Sorry, none of us have PhD's in anal/vaginal medicine and most Dr's don't have a degree in both either. Therefore we are stuck with Dr;s who look at the issue one sided or point fingers to another direction and take no responsibility because they don't know what to do. So we branch out to other woman to see what their experiences are and if there have been any Dr's out there who HAVE been able to determine a cause and SOLUTION to this concerning matter. Since most Dr's have up to the point of people's post be unsuccessful in finding the solution woman are reaching out in a format that doesn't cost them money and is still comprehensible as the overwhelming amount of medical information online about conditions this may or may not be are difficult to understand and just leave woman with more questions than when they began. Not to mention, when some people find a forum like this it can be their stepping stone to know what to look for on "another site" where they might find an exact explanation of some of the possible conditions mentioned in this forum.

I am a 44 year old woman and have heavy flow since my late 20's. I was in a car accident in 2003, my bowels died. I had just about 3ft of my small intestine, including my ileum, and the right side of my colon removed. I have been to endless specialists. I do not have hard stools. It is always diarrhea and its like vomiting out my butt most times(sorry for being so graphic), I do not know when my period will start due to this(extremely irregular), although, I haven't missed a month. Since the accident, this has been the norm. Also after I have a bowel movement, I can crack my lower back, but until I have that BM, I am unable to. I have severe pain when I don't have my period, when I sometimes have BM's, but not usually on my period. Any insights???

I am 41 and have had rectal bleeding only with menstruation for about 10 years now, maybe longer. I had a colonoscopy in '08 and they found nothing. I have been to 5 doctors, including to GI doctors. I actually had my 2nd colonoscopy today. I am so exhausted from dealing with this problem and having no one understand and basically discount my symptoms. I have finally found a doctor who believes me and sent me for this second colonoscopy just to double check. I go back to her in a week. She will then give me her recommendation. She said she was going to do a lot of research and consult with specialists about my case. I'm worn down from this decade long experience and I just want answers and relief.

I am having the same problem and am also 25. I started noticing small amounts of blood only during my period about 3 months ago. But it was usually only after a BM. Im currently on the first day of my flow, and the rectal bleeding has been worse throughout the day. I'm seeing the doctor soon to see if this could be causing this. I have not been diagnosed with endometriosis, but have been dealing with long, heavy and painful periods, as well as pain during sex. I recently had a Pap done, which came back normal, but they referred me to another center for more extensive tests because of the pain. I'm very nervous. My husband and I are wanting to start trying for a baby soon, and I'm afraid of what the doctor will tell me. I'm also upset, because I've been dealing with sexual pain and discomfort since I was 20, and two different doctors dismissed the issue, telling me to "use more lube." Not once did they speak with me about endometriosis or anything to look out for.

And what was your prognosis? Thanks for sharing

Push and push for a gynae appointment. I too have this, along with massive amounts of pain and fatigue so bad I can no longer work. My period has been coming out of my back passage for 6 months, and it's taken an ultrasound (clear), a colonoscopy (also clear), neither of which can diagnose endometriosis anyway, and lots of trying to persuade my GP that it's not my heamorhoids. We know our own bodies, and I know the difference between blood from piles (bright red and coming with a scratchy sensation) and period blood, which matches the colour and smell of my vagibal bleeding. I am 100% sure it's not blood from my vagina getting on the loo paper, and often my period starts from my behind before it starts from the front! Endo fatigue and bowel symptoms are very real. I won't be leaving my gynae appointment tomorrow until they've agreed to surgery. I wish you luck.
