This all sounds so familiar. I am 42 and started getting these bumps a few months ago. I thought it was from a department store putting makeup on my face with brushes that had bacteria in them. I took antibiotics for a month and during that time the bumps went away. After taking the antibiotic for 2 to 3 weeks I sanitized my brushes and bought new makeup. I just stopped taking the antibiotics after being on them for a month and the red bumps started appearing again.
I AM SO FRUSTRATED!!! They are all around my face and I noticed that they feel hot. At first I thought they were cold sores. I have had cold sores since I've been about 4 years old.
This is very odd and I hope someone can help.

I have these sores too.I'm 38, but noticed them popping up in my late 20's. It seems the older I've gotten the worse they've become. I finally gave in a went to a dermatologist last year. I was told by the dermatologist it's a layer of bacteria that forms under the skin. I went on antibiotics and they cleared up within a week. The dermatologist said there are several procedures to choose from to get rid of the bacteria with the cheapest being around $500 or I can continue to take antibiotics the rest of my life. It's not something that just goes away although it can go dormant. I took the antibiotics for several months and stopped. That was about a year ago. The sores are back and I'm headed to the dermatologist to get back on antibiotics. I've let it go so long that my face is constantly sore and itching. Mine runs from behind my ears down my jawline, across my chin and through to the back of my other ear. I've even noticed a few sores on my scalp. Like the rest of you, I never really had a problem with my skin before this.

I'm 29.  I've sent in a reply on this before that I thought my condition was Seborrheic Dermatitis.  I'm now completely sure that is what I have.  I thought it started just a few months ago, but now that I know what life is like with it under control, I see I had milder symptoms going back for years.

In the past few months, I had the red itchy bumps on my scalp, eyebrows, the sides of my nose, around my ears, and on my face anywhere a beard would grow especially my chin.  I also had some flaking on those same areas.  I got the red itchy bumps sometimes on my chest too.  It was always such a nightmare getting ready for work in the morning trying to get the flaking and itching under control.

I have done some research and have since been treating myself for Seborrheic Dermatitis.  My skin is now completely cleared-up and smooth and non-itchy.  Do not use steroid creams regularly as they can have worse permanent effects.  Really, don't use them at all except for maybe a day or two if you're having a really bad outbreak.  Here's what I've been doing:

1.  I changed my diet.  Low-fat foods, nothing fried.  Nothing that contains yeast.  Almost no dairy.  A ton of vegetables (especially the dark-green stuff), beans, and grilled or baked meats.  Every once in a while, straying from this diet for a meal here and there doesn't seem to have much of an effect, so don't think you can never eat a hamburger with french fries or a slice of pizza again.

2.  I don't use soap on my face at all.  I use Cetaphil.  A couple times a week I wash my head, face, and body with this mixture: 1 part water, 1 part apple cider vinegar, 1 part head and shoulders, nizoral, or selsun blue (alternate every few weeks), and a few drops of tea tree oil.  Make sure you let it soak in for a couple minutes before rinsing.  A couple other days a week I wash my head, face, and body with just one of those shampoos.

3.  I try to control my stress as best I can and get plenty of SLEEP.  If I get home from work and I'm tired and feel like going to bed, I go to bed as soon as possible.

The first few days I started this treatment were a little rough.  My skin had an initial reaction to the treatment and kind of peeled a bit as if after a bad sunburn.  But since then, I have just been loving the skin I'm in.  I used to have dandruff, an itchy chin, white-ear-stuff-build-up (gross I know), and redness around the sides of my nose as far back as I can remember, and more recently the outbreaks of red itchy bumps on my face...but I don't anymore.  No more red itchy bumps anywhere, no more flaking.  If you do have Seborrheic Dermatitis, give my solution a try.  Whatever you do, don't take steroid creams regularly.

It's me again.  I just posted about the dermatitis thing.  Just wanted to add something... strangely enough, since I've started this treatment, my allergy problems seem to be gone now.  I used to wake up sneezing every day with a stuffy nose and go into sneezing fits throughout the day.  Maybe it's the regular exposure to the tea tree oil?  Or maybe it's just because I've been building up my immune system with plenty of rest and vitamins?  Not sure, but I'm feeling great lately.

I notice this topic began four years ago so I don't know if "needshelp" still needs help, but I have dealt with acne for about the last 30 years and I was looking for answers to a new skin problem of my own when I stumbled upon this thread. I have had this same problem since I was a teen. Every time I am under stress, I break out in red, sore, bumps on my neck, jawline, and chin. My hairline, around my nose and on it (lovely), and my forehead are also affected by the acne and sometimes worse than others during stress. The bumps are mostly on the neck, jaw, chin. The rest are pimples that come to a head. They are basically deep pimples that aren't coming to a head. It took a while for me to see it, but I definitely know it is triggered by stress. Eating right, drinking enough water, getting enough sleep, are all key to helping the problem. Because we all know that reducing our stress is ideal but sometimes nearly impossible. Learning to cope better is a more realistic expectation. Other factors that aggravate the skin are excessive heat, dirt and makeup, bacteria, sweat, touching with your hands too much, etc. A little sun is good but use sunscreen. After working out, wash with a mild cleanser and finish with a cold rinse to close pores. I like an organic glycerin and goats milk soap (nothing else added). It soothes red skin. Always remove makeup before bed. Change the towel used on your face in the bathroom and pillowcases on your bed frequently. I keep a separate towel for my face from the one used for hands in the bathroom. I got rid of the bumps by going on long term antibiotic therapy because nothing topical worked. The main thing to remember is that everyone is different and nothing can be diagnosed without being looked at. I'm sure every single one that posted on here is different in some way than the next, so be careful about treating yourself based on a canned opinion and see a Dr. I was an Registered Nurse for over 14 years and I still couldn't tell you what every bump and rash is even when I'm looking right at it. Which is why I was here in the first place looking for info on my own skin issues. Good luck and God bless!

needshelp; this is definitely stress-related. I have had an immense amount of stress lately and that's when I started to get these raised bumps under the skin and only on the left side of my face. Near the chin and up towards the ear. They seem like pimples but there not.

I began washing my face three times a day and using pimple cream on them but that doesn't work I am condsidering using the lemon juice just to try? and I use some soothing lotion, I try not to mess or scratch them and hope the stress is gone before my face.

I think they could even be hives but they do seem to go down and only flare up during high stressxp

Hiii everybody with the same problem:

STOP TRYING TO DO ANYTHING. This comes from stress, sugar or bacteria. Most likely if it doesn't go away in a 1-2 weeks period it's bacteria. If that's the case than stop picking at them and go straight to a doctor.

You will get treatment (antibiotics for the skin, creams and pills who help) and after a few weeks it will get better. The thing is that the bacterias don't come from the outside of your skin, they come from the inside and that is the reason why they don't get a head. They are deep inside your skin!

I had this problem and eftir 2-3 months treatment my skin got all clear again! Hopefully this helps.

I'm so glad, I read those post, it made feel that I'm not alone and I'm so thankful. Mine seems to be a bit hormonal. They appear BEFORE I have my period, then they would LESSEN after my period. They never leave my face, it's either they would turn red and be more noticeable or they would somehow flatten a bit.
I did use tea tree oil, they are always perfect when it comes to acne like conditions.
I also think that it is also related to stress, lack of sleep and eating sugary stuff. I'm guilty of everything. So, I'm really trying hard to change my lifestyle to improve my skin!

: I so glad that people have the same or experiencing the same symptoms as I am getting , I have red white bumps on my forehead , I am 18 years old . And I don't know what cause it , I just got this about couple days ago . I know it not impetigo , it would have been itchy or gold crust . For what I do know that is could be stress related . And I am seeing doctor this morning , and I will check back if I get an answer .

Im 23 ive been getting these red bumps it starts out looking like a pimple but it gets bigger and bigger seeming like it is going to blow but never does and then it starts to swell i get them on my upper cheeks on my face or near my eye brows it usually leads to swelling of my eyes then after the swelling will go down and disappear its happened a few times already at first i thought it was a bug bite but now im thinking its from stress since it happens alot during finals in school. i realized if you try to pop it usually just makes it worse so i just leave it alone now but when i tried to pop it just clear white fluid comes out but dosnt make it go away any faster. ive been to the doctor for it before they didnt know what it was just gave me antibiotics didnt seemed like it made it go away any faster. i know many people have posted they where going to a dermatologist can anyone tell me what they said. and what are the ways to prevent them and get rid of them when they occur. please reply any information that might help thank you
