I started with the exact same symptoms a week ago and it is extremely painful. I did stop all lip moisturizers after I read your post yesterday because mine did all contain beeswax. Is it ok to use Vaseline? How long did it take for your symptoms to clear?

Any luck with stopping the beeswax products mate? I've had the same problem for around 4-5 weeks! It's a pain. I can't even kiss my partner because I'm scare of giving it to her. Also. I've been on just Vaseline for two weeks, not really worked to perfection in my case :(

I know it's been a while since this original post and I hope your lip condition has subsided completely. I am a 31 year old male with similar strange things happening to my lips on & off for the last 10 years or so. For me, having sensitive skin, this condition has been trying to say the least. I always told myself if I find some things that help I would try & pass them along because I know how rough this stuff can be. For me, the root cause seems to be a yeast infection. Candida to be more specific. The candida overran my body leading to food allergies and a number of other symptoms which, as a whole, made daily life almost unbearable for me. The 1st step for me was and is threelac. It is made by global healthtrax and it's the common denominator in fighting candida. I still take 2 packets a day and may never stop. Second I had to clean up my diet. No gluten, google "top foods antifungal" and this is my new core diet. Third step for me that took 10 years to find is coconut oil. I ingest a tablespoon a day and use it to make my own toothpaste and my own shapstick. Also look into "oil pulling" with coconut oil. Preservatives/chemicals are the enemy. I'm not sure any of this applies in your situation but I guess it's better to try & not succeed then to not try at all.

Have u ever looked up angular chilitis? It is a type of fungal infection that effects the corners of the mouth. It can even spread and effect the skin around the mouth too. It causes cracking of the corners of the mouth. Habitual lip licking and biting also can cause this to happen.

Chilitis also causes inflamation of the lips leaving them feeling puffy and chapped at the same time. U may even see fissure on your lips appearing like lines or wrinkles on the lips.

I was wondering if this could be related to itchy eye lids too! I have both on and off, it's maddening!!!

you should probably know that you can contract hsv 1 from almost anything. hugging and kissing someone on the cheek who has it, even before they have a visible outbreak, can spread it to you, and you CAN get it from door knobs, utensils, etc etc. its EXTREMELY COMMON! by the time people are adults practically half the population, maybe more, will test positive for it, but many people never exhibit symptoms. ive long had fears of herpes for some crazy reason, enough that ive gone into full blown panic attacks thinking about it. that led me to demanding blood tests on MANY occasions and they were always negative. recently i had a very bad outbreak of canker sores (ulcers inside the mouth), enough that it inhibited my eating and drinking. doctor did some swabs and low and behold, hsv 1. my blood is still negative, so it was a primary attack. im 26 and have one stable partner who does not have hsv 1. i havent shared anything with anyone besides him. i can only guess that maybe a recent change in jobs exposed me to some new germs from the shared coffee spoon, or something like that. you can contract this without putting your mouth on anyone elses. its easily transmitted sexually, but it can also be transmitted MANY other ways.

This is strange that we are all having the same symtoms. I woke up one day with swollen lips and a left swollen EYE LID. I have been having allergy problems and I would rub my left eye lid it was red but not swollen so I went to a dermatologist. I was given Desonide ointment I used it on my left eye lid for 2 weeks. Everything was fine left eye lid went back to normal.  Ok then went back for a check up to let the dermatologist see my eye. I was told to stop using the ointment and use vaseline. I did that everything was fine until I was eating salted peanuts and my lips started to tingle and burn. so I stopped eating the peanuts trying to figure out how to stop my lips from tingling and burning. I washed my face and put vaseline on my lips. Also took 2 benedryl tabs. When I woke up 5/26/2014 my lips were huge and my left eyelid swollen shut. I also had red spots on my chin, cheeks, side of my nose and it was horrible.

I would like to say you are so awesome. I do believe you are right. I have been going through this for years and could never figure out why. Im not the make up wearing type but I do love my lip glosses. And after reading your reply I started thinking about the different ones I apply to my lips.and I agree it must be the bees wax. Now the only question is how do you help the process of healing your lips and getting then back to normal.

I was stunned to see so many descriptions that fit my symptoms to a tee. My lips are swollen, red, cracked and itchy (no blisters). I kept adding more Burt's Bees chap stick...now I see this may be what started it all. Everything I have ever used in the past, Blistex & chap stick really burn, so I have taken to ice in a cloth and use it to get some short relief.

My lips have just started getting really itchy and burning and see some little white spots on my Cupid's bow, it's really scaring me because I have gave oral for the first time about 5 days ago.. But I didn't see any sores or anything in his genitals, I do have a few tiny little bumps around my mouth but don't look like cold sores they are the same color of my skin, but I also waxed my upper lip yesterday, could that be irritating my lips? Their so red and swollen, and they burn where my lip line is. I just really wanna know that I don't have herpes, I'm only 15. And a virgin. But could it also be from my meds? I have thyroid disease. Someone please help me.

Has anyone found anything that works? I have had the same exact symptoms for about 6 months now. Every week my lips will become very chapped, peel off the second they touch water (in the shower, brushing teeth, etc). They burn and tingle... I have hsv1 and usually get a cold sore maybe once per year, and thy have never been that bad. About 6 months ago I had the worst cold sore of my life. It was huge and extremely painful, I would wake up at night needing to put ice on it and it took over two weeks to heal. I was so paranoid it would come back that I used abreva every day during the outbreak and about a week after (longer than recommended). Ever since then I now have burning peeling tingling lips. Even inside my mouth (right where the lip stops and the inside of mouth starts) is burning and very red. Does anyone have the inside of mouth symptoms as well? I have been taking lysine but it doesn't seem to help that much, however when I stop taking it now the symptoms get worse however taking it is not helping to cure me... I have paid lots of bills at my dermatologist but nothing is working and things seem to get worse. I get a few small bumps from time to time but never any actual cold sores...just this persistent tingling and pain. I would love to get off of the lysine and have my normal lips back. Does anyone know what this is??

I have the same symptoms that most people are describing here: sore, burning, swollen, tight lips. I've had this for a week now and nothing is helping. I've loaded my lips with Vaseline and have kept myself hydrated. I also had triamcinolone ointment which did nothing. My lips feel as if someone is constantly stretching them. Sounds weird, but that's the best way to describe it. If anyone has found out what their condition is or knows how to cure it, please let us know! I'm calling my doctor on Monday.
