Rhinoplasty South Africa: Dr Pieter Swanepoel

I would not recommend Dr Pieter Swanepoel. I also struggled to find reviews and because i'm in Cape Town and he in PTA it was a big decision for me. I decided to go for it and must say i was utter disappointed. If i knew the result would look nothing like his pictures then i would've def not gone. Afterwards he tells me that it would've looked much better if we did open nose surgery. WTF? For lack of better words.
As i couldn't fly up to PTA every checkup he recommended a Cape Town Dr. Very good. I wish i knew him before Dr Pieter!

My 2c. DO NOT USE HIM. I think he is also getting old now and don't really want to do any complicated operations.

My experience with Prof Pieter Swanepoel was great. My breathing is now without any complications and my sinus sorted, after he did a nose-reconstruction. My nose looks good too.

Do not use this Dr, I went to him a few years back to repair and old break in my nose. He almost made it worse and in my post op follow up he said I would need to wait a year for him to go back and fix it and I would need to cover all the costs except his. He said it was how I slept after surgery. Went to another surgeon who laughed when I said who I went to and he said that Swanepoel should have retired 15 years ago.

Who was the Dr. in Cape Town Dr. Swanepoel recommended?

I just went to see Dr. Swanepoel and I'm a bit nervous as I have not seen any good reviews, he retired last year and I wanted to know if anyone had any experience with Dr. Chris Smit who is now doing the procedures? Please advise

I had my nose done in the nose clinic by dr smit, I had to go back 3 times this year and my nose is worse than before. He also charges every time for his mistakes. Please dont go !!

I had surgery with dr Pieter Swanepoel in 2001. The nose is too high and with a second procedure, he told me he could not change it. Now, I still have scars on my nose. He accused me that I fiddled with the nose. I am very unhappy and I paid too much for this procedure. I will have to claim my money back. R31 000 it is.

I also feel like I was done in by this surgeon. I spent all my money witch I have been saving for years on this procedure. My nose looks EXACTLY the same plus I think I have nerve damage because my nose is itching all the time. I wish there was something I can do to get my money back :'(

The same happened to me. He said the surgery is very complicated, that's why it's so expensive. He was also supposed to do tip surgery so "it's more delicate and expensive". He didn't do it and said he chose a different way, without talking to me about it beforehand. My surgery was over in 45 minutes where he originally said it would take 3 hours. My nose looks the same and I feel he shouldn't get away with taking so much money from people and not delivering what he said he would. I feel like that shouldn't even be legal.

Dr Swanepoel and Dr Smit work as a perfect team. Whereas Dr Smit performs that actual surgery, Dr Swanepoel undertakes all the pre- and post-op consultations, as well as oversees the entire process, including the surgery. At The Nose Clinic you have access to the expertise of not only one, but two rhinoplasty specialists; a privilege not to be found anywhere else.

Both Dr Swanepoel and Dr Smit have performed thousands of nose operations. I would like to urge anyone reading these reviews to weigh up a miniscule amount of negative reviews against the thousands of cases in which patients’ lives have been positively impacted by these surgeons.  Both surgeons have spent decades in the service of their patients, constantly improving their skills both locally and abroad, and are able to look back with pride on a lifetime of dedication to their field. I understand that each patient’s case and experience is different, but I feel that it is terribly unjust for one or two bad reviews to besmirch the reputations of these legendary surgeons who have pioneered and refined rhinoplasty to where it is today. The surgeons have never had a single official complaint laid against them across various the medical boards to which they belong.

As far as the tiny amount of negative reviews are concerned, the possibility always exists that haters are just gonna hate. Or maybe the reviewers are not telling the full story.

 Anyone who is fortunate enough to have their surgery carried out at The Nose Clinic should consider it an honour.

I do recommend Dr. Swanepoel. He is very good and the results are great. I think he is the best. He helped me and my confidence.

It took me a while to leave such an ugly review because I just did not want to. But if this saves someone from jumping off a cliff by not using these surgeons then I have to leave this review. I spent 90k trying to make my nose better.Now apparently I have scar tissue and the nose I want will never be achieved. My nose has bumps post surgery and my profiles were not even. So I went for the correction surgery which by the way I had to pay for. They are nice people but left extremely disappointed. Unfortunately there were no reviews when I went with them initially. They know best and are bewildered when you say your are not happy. The change is 20000 worth and not 90000 worth.
