i'm so glad to read this post, because I'm a guy with the exact same concern as you described in this post! 1 week 5 days now and ONE SIDE is swollen and it hurts... i was a bit scared at the start because i felt a bone, but noticed that on the other side (not swollen) i could also feel a bone. i just wonder, how long did it take for that swollen part to go away?? next week it's christmas and i want to look decent :) oh I still can't breathe really well through my nose, inside it's really swollen :s

I just had my nose done 4 days ago and the swelling around my eyelids have gone completely, which I am super grateful for! I had no bleeding from the nose after my surgery. The only thing remaining are the bruises under my eyes which are beginning to fade away now. For anyone whos had a nose job/ thinking of getting one, eat lots of pineapples and celery! Miracle workers really. Also arnica pills are really good for bruising, I started eating pineapples, celery and arnica pills two weeks prior to my surgery and I believe this helped a great deal in my recovery process! Good luck!

I had nasal surgery which my surgeon insists was a septoplasty, but im convinced it was a septorhino, because: 1.- He's a plastic surgeon, altough he did the procedure along with a ENT. 2.- My nose looks different from the bridge.
I went to them because they are good surgeons and I had a severely broken nose and a 'double deviated septum' so I could not breath from my nose at all. This was causing me literally a never ending headache and I got sinus infections 10 times in a period of 12 months. Also sleep apnea.
So you can imagine I was desperate, so when I finally had the money, and they saw the CT scan, I just asked them 'can you fix this?' they said yes and no more questions were asked. No pictures taken, or computer images, nothing. But I told them clearly that I was happy with my nose and that the only thing I wanted was the fracture to be healed so that i could breath again.
So I wake up from anesthesia and the first thing the plastic surgeon says is 'we fixed the septum and we got rid of the hump', and I thought 'WAIT, WHAT!?, WHICH HUMP!?', so I waited, and the day the splint came off I saw a huge difference on the nasal bridge. I still do (I'm 2 months post op).
He says that one of the deviations included also part of the nasal valve (one deviation was in the bottom, pure cartilage and the other was cartilage and bone by the bridge or dorsum) and he had to shave it down in order to set the bones and the septum back in place. I seriously do not see how does the shaving down helps with my breathing??? He claims it was a septoplasty but if there was a hump shaving doesn't that make it a septorhino??? Im VERY confused.... please help
Soooo septo or septorhino? what do you think??

I just had my surgery a week ago and had the splint removed yesterday. I hate my nose. I've been crying and don't have the energy to go out of the house. Instead of having pig nostrils mine is the oppitose. Its actually has dropped. I took pictures of myself before from all angels and constantly compare my nose to what its like now. All i wanted was reduction of the hump and straighten my nose as it was broken 10 years ago and decrease the tip. After looking at my pictures i noticed that the doctor did in fact lower the tip of my nose and my nostrils are unevenly shaped. My upper lip and the tip of my nose looks awful! The bridge and profile of my nose is fine. Im worried because everyone says that "pig" nose will drop but obviously mine is already too low and the tip is obviously very fat so that doesnt help. Anyone else have this problem? any advise? will this change????

. Hope you truly experience the "grace" mention in your comment , as anyone you who would bother to make such an ignorant , hateful comment surely is a miserable soul. Sad, really.

Before you undergo the surgery it is essential that your doctors would explain about the swelling and other side effects after the surgery. It is essential they brief you. You should choose your doctor very well so it won't be a waste of money and also have big disappointments.

I'm glad I came across this forum as well. I had rhinoplasty done 1.5 weeks ago. Patience is not one of my strong points, but if I am to survive this recovery/healing phase, and maintain sanity, I will have to develop patience. Everything that I have read, before and after surgery tells me that i won't see real results until at least 6-12 months. I had open rhinoplasty, and although I can see a slight decrease in swelling at this point, my freakin tip is still very swollen, and numb. It's hard to appreciate the results (the ones you notice slowly) when you are comfronted with a tip that looks, to be quiet honest larger than before surgery. I have a very caring and understanding physician and staff, that have educated and assured me as much as possible. The only advice that I can give is to be patience, and if you are like me develop patience. 6-12 months will fly by (that's what I keep telling myself). And in the worse case scenario, if you don't achieve the results that you hoped for...there's always revision. Appreciate and celebrate every little result you notice with your new nose, we will get there.

Without seeing a photo, it's hard to say, but I had the same experience. I went through this 3 times with the same Dr. because he waived his fee(I still paid for operating room) The tip was supposed to be raised. I communicated clearly and he just did not listen and imposed his "aesthetics" onto me.
I have not experienced the tip raising.
I can not afford to correct it. If you do decide to correct it. go to a revision specialist. My experience just made me more depressed and very angry. This Dr did NOT explain anything about swelling and what to expect afterwards.
I hope your situation is not as bad as mine. It is not a good place to be.

How does your nose look now? My tip from my last rhinoplasty dropped and I needed a revision after 1 year. They took cartaledge and supported the tip and now it is not dropped at all. It was rotated up ever so slight so when it does drop as they all do when the swelling goes down it will be in a great position. Good luck to you and I know how you feel because it was a hard year for me to wait. I hope your nose now looks great after the swelling subsided.

My original nose: Asian nose, flat, no bridge, big nasal wings/alar base, bulbous tip
I had the surgery a little over two weeks ago. The surgery took about 4 hours (!!). No bruised eyes or nose post-op. When the splint came off 7 days later I was happy with the result for the most part, except for the tip cos it looked as bulbous as I did pre-op. But I already knew about tip swelling before I went in so I kinda expected that. However, I wanna add that RIGHT AFTER my surgeon was done doing my tip (before the swelling started to happen and before the surgeon moved on to working on fixing my nasal wings/alar base), he gave me a mirror and asked me to take a look because it would be what the real nose looks like after all the swelling subsides. It was a lovely nose! I didn't expect a perfect celebrity nose but I'm happy to say, with what I saw right after the tip surgery, the new nose was 85% improved from my old one and that's good enough for me in my book. So that makes it just a little more bearable living with my bulbous nose now cos I know it will only get better!
What I will suggest for anyone who is considering a nose surgery is that: 1. keep your expectations realistic, that means don't expect to turn a Beyonce nose into a Gwyneth Paltrow -- everyone has different bone structures so it's best to go in with realistic expectations; 2. try go under local anesthetics and ask your surgeon to show you the result IMMEDIATELY after the tip (or area around it) is done, so you get to see for yourself what your nose will really look like before all the swelling starts to happen and makes you depressed.
By the way, from what I've read in my research, if too much fat and tissue is removed from the tip it will actually stimulate the formation of scar tissue and as a result your tip will look bigger than before. So don't be greedy, and be patient! :)
